| PsionicRanger05-12-05, 04:42 PM | (note...thought that the title would be an eye-catcher)... Is the Fullblade the largest weapon that a Med-sized character can weild with one hand using Monkey Grip? Does it deal the largest amount of damage? |
| PsionicRanger05-12-05, 05:10 PM | no one's even got a simple yes or no, huh? :twocents: :twitch: |
| Phaxi05-12-05, 05:14 PM | Goliaths (medium-sized race) from the races of stone can weild a weapon one size category larger than normal without penalties. |
| Zathyr05-12-05, 05:14 PM | Um, the fullblade from Sword and Fist? Helps to know if you're asking 3.0 or 3.5 - Monkey Grip changed and there's been some other changes. In any case, I think the "biggest" weapon is probably going to be an improvised one, and best base damage from a one-hander is probably a high level monk's fist. ;) |
| PsionicRanger05-12-05, 05:40 PM | fullblade's changed in the Arms and Equipment Guide...it's 2d8 damage...and with Nonkey Grip...the way I read it in CW ...it allows you to weild it one-handed. |
| Fwib05-12-05, 05:52 PM | Monkey Grip in CW doesn't let you reduce the number of hands you use to wield the weapon as the old 3.0 MG did. It allows you to use a weapon one size larger in the same number of hands, so you could have a one-hand-wielded-by-medium-creature Monkey-Gripped Large (one-handed sword), whereas without the feat you'd need to use two hands to wield it. But it tends to work out pretty much the same: instead of wielding a Greatsword (2d6) one-handed, you wield a Large Longsword (2d6) etc etc. |
| Dai-Shan05-12-05, 06:45 PM | The largest I can think of would be something along these lines: Goliath barbarian with a titan bloodline(unearthed arcana) Feats to pick up are monkey grip and exotic weapon proficiency(bastard sword). you take the goliath sub level for barbarian that lets you bump your size up one well raging. and you get a sizing bastard sword. At 15th class level(well, 12th barbarian, 3 bloodline) or ecl 16. you get a weild large weapons, that from what I can see stacks with both powerful build, and monkey grip. without raging, your base damage goes along these lines medium - 1d10 goliath - 2d8 monkey grip - 3d8 bloodline ability - 4d8 raging with bigger weapon - 6d8 And if the spell enlarge stacks with the rage ability from the goliath sub level you can bump that up to 8d8. You can also through on two weapon fighting and oversized two weapon fighting to dual wield these. Nothing like swinging around the equivilant of a fireball. |
| Tytalus05-12-05, 07:28 PM | Fwib is correct that Monkey Grip does not work for Fulblade. no one's even got a simple yes or no, huh? :twocents: :twitch: As an aside: you might want to give people more than 28 minutes to reply to your question. A day is usually good. |
| Endarire05-12-05, 08:22 PM | Half-Giant Wu Jen/Psion Augmented Expansion plus Giant Size. Use Expansion first. Add in whatever weapon you want. -EE |
| DM Denubis05-12-05, 09:22 PM | goliath - 2d8 monkey grip - 3d8 Monkey Grip and Powerful Build don't stack, and I'm willing to bet that at least one of your other modifiers won't either. ^^ |
| Dai-Shan05-12-05, 09:28 PM | why wouldn't they? powerful build means your treated as large for wielding weapons. Monkey grip allows you to wield weapons one size larger then normal without further effort. the rage is only a normal enlarge effect(per the spell, and as I said I wasn't sure if the rage would stack with a magical enlarge effect) The larger weapon ability from the bloodline is worded somewhat similar to monkeygrip, but it looks different enough to me to stack(it may not though, that would be up to dm's discretion) As far as I can tell, most of the abilities stack. Unfortunately I don't have my books with me at work so I can't double check the exact wording. |
| PlutoniumKnight05-12-05, 09:44 PM | Actually Powerfull bield allows you to wield weapons one size catagory larger than you are w/ no penalty, monkey grip does that but for a -2 penalty. Also Mountain rage's large size doesn't stack w/ PB. |
| DM Denubis05-12-05, 09:44 PM | Powerful Build does not treat you as one size larger for the purposes of wielding weapons. It allows you to wield a weapon one size larger than you. As does Monkey Grip. Since your size is not changing, they do not stack. It's one of those annoying little loopholes. |
| Dai-Shan05-12-05, 09:50 PM | so its semantics. I thought that powerful build treated you as being one size larger for what you can wield and that monkey grip treated the weapons as one size smaller, I guess I was completely wrong, which means the math would be completely out, I will have to look at the wording on all the abilities and rework it out. |
| DM Denubis05-12-05, 09:57 PM | so its semantics. You do know where you are, right? ^^ |
| Welt05-12-05, 11:38 PM | As long as we're talking semantics here, the titan bloodline from UA technically allows you to wield a gargantuan warhammer two-handed without penalty, irregardless of your actual size. |
| SoulLord05-12-05, 11:44 PM | let's see wizard 20 feats monkey grip wield a large long sword shapechange into titant and wield the sword. now you can wield a gargantuic long sword |
| Mystic Ninja05-12-05, 11:54 PM | A first level human fighter [or other full BAB class] can wield a Large Warmace [Complete warrior - 1d12 damage -> 3d6 for large] in one hand, which leaves the fullblade behind. He also has a spare feat [weapon focus somewhat ignore the -2 monkey grip penalty?]. Cheers. |
| Neb Rybel05-13-05, 01:37 AM | Goliath Barbarian using the Substitution level can stack Mountain Rage with Monkey Grip. |
| Ashaman Nash05-13-05, 03:00 AM | irregardless = not a word |
| DDogwood05-13-05, 09:56 AM | irregardless = not a word Sure it is, it's just a crappy word. It means "with regard". It is the opposite of "regardless". You can add all kinds of prefixes and suffixes to English words without destroying their worditude (wordishness?). Of course, he's using it wrong. Personally, I prefer to add even more prefixes and suffixes onto the word, e.g. "nonunirregardlessitudinally". This renders it virtually impossible to use it correctly. |
| Zathyr05-13-05, 10:07 AM | Sure it is, it's just a crappy word. It means "with regard". It is the opposite of "regardless". Actually, my dictionary says it means the same as "regardless." It also says that it is a word (which I think is sort of funny). But that has absolutely nothing to do with weapon sizes and monkey grip and damage and all that fun stuff. I think the question has been answered, though. I can't think of a one-handed weapon that does more damage than a warmace, for the size. You take a -1 AC to use it, but the best defense ... |
| big bear05-13-05, 12:05 PM | From dictionary.com [Probably blend of irrespective, and regardless.] Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so. |
| Nazzareth05-14-05, 05:33 AM | Don't forget the exotic heavy weapon prof increases the weapons damage by one size without increasing the size of the weapon. |
