Aramek 12-14-04, 09:31 AM	Hello everyone! It is old loveable Aramek again. Now, I have been solely DMing for the past 3 years, and I'm very excited to have been playing as a player with my freiends at home every other weekend. With the xmas break upon us, I'll be home for several weeks, and our DM really wants to get a lot of quality playing time in. I'm playing as a Warforged Barbarian, and my brother is a human Artificer. This is an Underdark FR setting, but all sourcebooks are sourcebooks to us. Regardless, I have constantly seen people on these boards craft the items with the metamagic feats in them. I could understand the mechanics easily enough. The Metamagic feat would increase the spell's level, and caster level, as it would carry a higher slot correct? Like a maximised wand of Magic Missile would be a 4th level slot, requiring CL of 9, right? 4*9*750= 27,000gp. But I have also seen, that since the metamagic feats don't actually increase the spell level, only Heighten does, does it just increase the CL? 1*9*750= 6,750gp? And furthermore...is it even possible to do this? Or are we just interpolating from the rules? Does it state anywhere that you can actually build a wand with a metamagic affect in it? If so, a clarifactaion on the method would be greatly appreciated. If this holds true, our artificer could just craft, at a higher price, his wands with the wanted metamagics in them already, so he wouldn't have to cast Metamagic Item on it. - Aramek
D'Nabre 12-14-04, 10:29 AM	PHB, pg. 88: Magic Items and Metamagic Spells. The level adjustment applies to the level(slot) in the calculation, and the limits for potions and wands apply. You don't use the effective level (level for save DCs and such), instead of the slot level, otherwise who'd ever make a magic item without applying all the metamagic feats they had other than heighten. Cheapest Wand of Maximized Magic missle would be (1 + 3) x 7 x 750 = 20720 As it's quadrupling the price, I wouldn't say its worth it.
