| Jontg01-09-04, 12:07 PM | The "elf wizard who thinks he's a fighter" is my favorite character concept--but strangely, I've only had one: My first and best character, Jonathanas Darkstar. Now, yesterday I decided to make my next char a drow wizard with delusions of fighterhood--but I've hit a snag. As you know, Drow are proficient with the rapier, hand crossbow, and short sword. I need to decide whether my drow should use a rapier or two short swords. I'm not worried about the Drizzt-cloniness of using two swords--it should be pretty obvious that this guy (CE Vheraunite who, although I have his history worked out, is as yet unnamed) is nothing like Do'urden. Also, my problem isn't just which weapon combo would be most powerful, but also what would contribute more to his image as a flashy, acrobatic warrior-mage. Suggestions, comments, insults?:D |
| Funny Slaughter01-09-04, 12:18 PM | i would suggest against taking twf, just too feat-intensive for a fighter/mage. take a look at JKs gish-thread for ideas. you will most likely have a level of fighter or similar anyhow so you can choose your weapon as you like. or do you want to be a straight wizard? gs Funny |

You could pull this off with a highly min/maxed melee-emphasis Bard build as well. Although Drow Bards are a rather bizarre juxtaposition. I'll echo Funny in that JosephKell's Gish thread should be just the thing you are looking for. Although to achieve certain objectives (BAB +16 or 4 Attacks, ultra-high level spells), your Drow +2 ECL will require some tinkering around with those builds. I would definitely avoid TWF combat at all costs. Again, that +2 ECL eliminates TWF from being a crux-point for your build on a number of mechanical levels. XO, Snow :) |

SS: Actually, I'm using the character in a one-person campaign--there aren't many D&D players around here, and I usually play alone. I've figured out that a +2 ECL actually lets a lone character advance at the same rate as a party of four normal characters. |
