| Bort33302-10-07, 02:01 PM | I'm looking for ideas for statting out the bodyguard of a King. This would be an NPC the party may run across (depending on what they do). And actually fight. Point Buy 30, Level 15, and low magic. (Ie +1 weapons and armor, maybe a ring of deflection). The bodyguard himself is a fighter type and should be specialized in protecting the King, IE take damage from him and live through anything. Any ideas? |
| Totentanz02-10-07, 02:47 PM | Knight from PHB II. Grab all the armor and shield opt. feats. Enjoy. |
| GaffeR02-10-07, 02:51 PM | Crusader. Reach weapon, combat reflexes, thicket of blades and many healing maneuvers as well as "attack me" maneuvers. |
| Talok02-10-07, 03:10 PM | Go knight 5/fighter 6/ crusader 4. Take crusader levels last to get higher level maneuvers. Knight protector from complete warrior is a good prestige class to look at. Dwarven defender is good for a dwarf bodyguard. |
| dog4502-10-07, 03:17 PM | The Devoted Defender from Sword and Fist (3.0) is pretty much a bodyguard PrC. |
| Bort33302-10-07, 03:39 PM | I'll have to wait until my friend brings PHB II to check out knight. Is there an updated Devouted Defender for 3.5? |
| magmer202-10-07, 11:55 PM | Their is a feat in a Realms book that allows the character to apply combat expertise to an adjacent ally. |
| Turaj02-11-07, 12:33 AM | Look up me battle bastion PrC. Its like a dwarven defender, but better.....(can I say that?? WotC don't kill me.....) |
| Turaj02-11-07, 12:39 AM | Here are the stats: Battle Bastion “I stand here, and nothing will move this body. Only the Gods will move me, and as to them, they will only move my soul.” Requirements- Base Attack Bonus +6 Feats Dodge, Endurance, Toughness. Class Skills The defender’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Craft (Int), Listen (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), and Spot (Wis). Skill Points at Each Level 2 + Int modifier. Hit Die: D12 Class Features All of the following are Class Features of the Battle Bastion prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiency A Battle Bastion is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, all types of armor, and shields. AC Bonus (Ex) The Battle Bastion receives a dodge bonus to Armor Class that starts at +1 and improves as the defender gains levels, until it reaches +4 at 10th level. Defensive Stance When he adopts a defensive stance, a Battle Bastion gains phenomenal strength and durability, but he cannot move from the spot he is defending. He gains +2 to Strength, +4 to Constitution, a +2 resistance bonus on all saves, and a +4 dodge bonus to AC. The increase in Constitution increases the defender’s hit points by 2 points per level, but these hit points go away at the end of the defensive stance when the Constitution score drops back 4 points. These extra hit points are not lost first the way temporary hit points are. While in a defensive stance, a defender cannot use skills or abilities that would require him to shift his position. A defensive stance lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3 + the character’s (newly improved) Constitution modifier. A Battle Bastion may end his defensive stance voluntarily prior to this limit. At the end of the defensive stance, the Battle Bastion is winded and takes a -2 penalty to Strength for the duration of that encounter. A Battle Bastion can only use his defensive stance a certain number of times per day as determined by his level (see Table: The Battle Bastion). Using the defensive stance takes no time itself, but a Battle Bastion can only do so during his action. Fortified (Ex) Beginning at first level, the Battle Bastion’s self discipline and practice give him the light fortification ability. This is an extraordinary ability that is constantly in effect. At fifth level, the Fortification becomes medium fortification, and at tenth level it becomes heavy fortification. Uncanny Dodge (Ex) Starting at 2nd level, a Battle Bastion retains his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) regardless of being caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. (He still loses any Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized.) If a character gains uncanny dodge from a second class, the character automatically gains improved uncanny dodge (see below). Indomitable Intimidation: Starting at fourth level, the Battle Bastion gains an aura out to 30 feet. Any enemy creature within the aura incurs a -4 on attacks, and a -2 on all saves. All allies gain a +2 morale bonus to Armor Class. This ability is mind based, and any mindless creature or creature with an intelligence of 2 or less is not affected by this aura. Damage Reduction (Ex) At 6th level, a Battle Bastion gains damage reduction. Subtract 3 points from the damage the Battle Bastion takes each time he is dealt damage. At 10th level, this damage reduction rises to 6/-. Damage reduction can reduce damage to 0 but not below 0. Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex) At 6th level, a Battle Bastion can no longer be flanked. This defense denies rogues the ability to use flank attacks to sneak attack the Battle Bastion. The exception to this defense is that a rogue at least four levels higher than the Battle Bastion can flank him (and thus sneak attack him). If a character gains uncanny dodge (see above) from a second class the character automatically gains improved uncanny dodge, and the levels from those classes stack to determine the minimum rogue level required to flank the character. Mobile Defense (Ex) At 8th level, a Battle Bastion can adjust his position while maintaining a defensive stance. While in a defensive stance, he can take one 5-foot step each round without losing the benefit of the stance. Hope that helps! :D |
| Saytr02-11-07, 01:52 AM | Have to 2nd the Devoted Defender idea. It's specifically a bodyguard class and it's pretty nice to boot. And so what if it's 3.0, yer the frickin DM! Throw whatever you want in there too. The guardian mantle is available for a 1 level dip into Ardent (Comp Psi). It lets you expend your focus to take the damage for an adjacent ally. |
