| Jhonen01-25-06, 06:59 PM | I'm looking for suggestions for a high-con, low-dex build that fits the following general parameters. Books (3.5): Mostly Core, Races of X, Complete X, XPH... maybe Eberron books and/or UA. Possibly others -- I just don't have much exposure to books not on this list, and I'd like to create a build that's likely to be allowable in games I play. High priority: High resistance to spells (saves, specific immunities, SR, etc). High resistance to damage (AC, DR, high HP, regeneration, etc). Primarily continuous abilities ("always-on" rather than x/day rage, etc). "Inherent" abilities rather than abilities granted by gods or items. Defenses ideally based on natural toughness (body / mind) rather than agility or a high degree of training. Medium priority: Human (and generally retaining human form) No spells Offensive melee capability Additional notes: Mettle (Hexblade 3 (CW) or Pious Templar 1 (CD)) is good, although neither the rest of Hexblade nor the theme of Pious Templar really fit this concept. Withstand (Kensai 5 (CW)) is excellent for a low-dex character, and my current builds include it, although Signature Weapon doesn't quite have the "inherent" feel I'm going for. Stone Warden (Deepwarden 2 (RoS)) is very nice, and I might be willing to forego the human-only restriction for this. Divine Grace would be great if it wasn't granted by an external entity. Monk abilities are generally good (despite being a matter of training more than natural ability), but the general idea is to be tough rather than quick, and I was envisioning large weapons and heavy armor. Goad (RoS) would be fun. As would anything along the lines of Shield Other or 3.0 Devoted Defender abilities, if anyone knows of anything similar in 3.5. |

I'm not able to offer much more advice than this, but if you can spare 3 levels (and even then, you still gain something out of it) I'd suggest taking a Human with three levels of Stoneblessed (Dwarf) so you can be a Human and STILL be a Stonewarden :D |
| Whity01-26-06, 04:05 PM | Where can I find this "Stoneblessed (Dwarf)" -Ability / Feat you are talking about and what effect does it have? Because this would open some options to other nice dwarf-only classes like hammer of moradin, etc. ----- Sorry Jhonen, i cant contribute anything to your requests, because I'm looking for myself for a char like this ;) But you can have a look at yekoj's prestige classes Thread ( maybe it is not that up-to-date but better than nothing ;) ) |
| FriendlyBiscuit01-26-06, 05:22 PM | Races of Stone |
| Jhonen01-26-06, 05:38 PM | Stoneblessed is basically like a Dwarven Racial Paragon level for a non-Dwarf (or, instead of dwarf, for another of the races in that book). Three levels, you get +2 Con, some normal dwarven racial abilities, and you are considered a dwarf for the purposes of PrCs, magical items, etc. The stat bonus is nice, but I wouldn't take it if you don't need it to qualify for a dwarven PrC. Still, I could do Ranger 2 / Stoneblessed 3 / Deepwarden 2 / Kensai 5 -- I just realized that you can start Stoneblessed really early. It's a shame to take Ranger levels if I'm going to create a heavily armored melee combatant, because I probably won't be using Combat Style. And Ranger 1 and Deepwarden 1 both grant Track... meh. But the Deepwarden skill reqs are tough, and I don't know of a good way to qualify early without Ranger levels. Thanks for the note about Yekoj's thread -- the immunities and PrC prereqs threads are both great. |
| Surreal01-26-06, 05:42 PM | Wildshaping Ranger 5/Master of Many Forms 7 feat: Frozen Wild Shape item: Periapt of Wound Closure Who needs defence when you have fast healing 44? :D (Ok, so that's not really what you're looking for, but it's fun) |

Basically, you would be tiny sized and could stand inside people's squares and pummel then shins. Damage would only go down alittle since weapon size would drop, but you could still easily have pretty good damage from everything else. Str, PA, and such. |
