| oontyex11-12-06, 07:50 PM | Werebear 6 monster HD (6 levels), gives +4 BAB, +2 ECL Werebear (8 levels)/ Monk 2/ Swordsage 2/ Reaping mauler 5/ Warshaper 3 or maybe something based on Half-Ogre: (Savage species) +6 St/ -2 Dex/+2 Con/-2Int/ -2 Cha Large size, 30’ mov, darkvis 60 Space/Reach 10/10 Level adjustment: +2 (so uses 2 levels) +4 Natural armor Giant blood Level adjustment +1 (uses 1 level) Werebear (6 + 2 ECL = 8 levels)/ Monk 2/ Swordsage 2/ Reaping mauler 5/ Warshaper 3 Or, if swordsage AC bonus doesn't stack with monk AC bonus: Werebear (6 + 2 ECL = 8 levels)/ Monk 3/ Shadow Scout 1/ Reaping mauler 5/ Warshaper 3 * Probably actually leaning towards this build: In Hybrid form, movement: 30ft, + 10ft (shadow scout) + 10 ft (lv 3 monk), gives 50 ft movement, and when running x5 (compared to x4 as usual) from run feat means that you can get into melee really quickly, before getting hit by too many spells / ranged attacks Possibly combine with spring attack, allows you to move in, attack, move out, and end up a fair distance away Stay in hybrid form: large size, +16 strength, +2 dex, +8 Cont and +2 wis from lyncanthopy 32 point buy before racial mods: St 16/ 12 Dex/ 16 Con/ 6 Int/ 17 Wis/ 5 Cha after racial mod in hybrid form: 32 St/ 14 Dex/ 24 Con/ 6 Int/ 19 Wis/ 5 Cha at lv 20, put all 5 points into Wis 32 St/ 14 Dex/ 24 Con/ 6 Int/ 24 Wis/ 5 Cha So, a + 11 mod on strength, + 6 on Cont and + 6 on Wis idea is get the choke hold feat (oriental adventure): If you pin your opponent while grappling and maintain the pin for 1 full round your opponent must make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 your level + your wisom modifier). If the saving throw fails, your opponent falls unconscious for 1d3 rounds. get the Earth's Embrace feat (orientale adventures): While grappling, if you pin your opponent, you deal critical damage (double normal unarmed damage) each round taht you maintain the pin. You hold your opponent immobile as nomal, but you must also remain completely immobile, giving oponents (other than the one you're pinning) a +4 bonus on attack rolls against you (but you are not helpless). Reaping Mauler Abilities: Gains Improved Grapple: If you hit with a unarnmed strike, you deal normal damage and can attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. No initial touch attack is required. You can deal normal damage while grappling, rather than subdual damage, without suffering a penalty on your grapple check. Sleeper Lock: At 3rd level, a repaing mauler learns how to render an opponent unconscious with rpessure. If the character pins his opponent while grappling and maintains the pin for 1 full round, the opponent must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + reaping mauler's class level + the reaping mauler's Wis modifier) at the end of the round or fall unconcious for 1d3 rounds. Devastating Graple: If a 5th level reaping mauler pins his opponent while grappling and maintains the pin for 3 consecutive rounds, the opponent must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + the reaping mauler's class level + the reaping maulers Wis modifier) at the end of the third round or die. * Sleeper and choke saves, if he fails one or the other, he's unconcious, just maintain the pin a little longer and he has to save or die, and all the while you can pummel him Other feats to pick: Circle Kick (sword and fist) Falling Star Strike (oriental adventure): Against a humanoid opponent, you can make an unarmed attack that has a chance of blinding your target. If your attak is successful, your target must attempt A Firtude saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 your level + your Wis mod). If the target fails this saving throw, he is blinded for 1 round per level you posses. In addition to the obvious effects, a blinded creature suffers a 50% miss chance in combat (all opponents have full concealment), loses any Dex bonus to AC, grants a +2 bonus on attacker's attack rolls (they are effectively invisible), moves at half speed, and suffers a -4 penalty on most Strength and Dex based skills. Freezing the lifeblood (oriental adventure): Against a humanoid opponent, you can make an unarmed attack that deals no damage, but has a chance of paralyzing your target. If your attack is successful, your target must attmept a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 your level + Wisdom modifier). If the target fails this saving throw, he is paralyzed for 1d4 +1 rounds. A paralyzed cahracter stands rigid and helpless, unable to move or act physically. He has effective strength and dexterity scores of 0 but may take purely mental actions. Roundabout kick (oriental adventures) If you strike a succesfful critical hit with an unarmed attack, you can immediately amek an additional unarmed attack against the same opponent, as if you hadn't used your attack for the critical hit. You used the same attack bonus that you used for the critical hit. *combined with earth's embrace seems to mean taht after pinning one round you get 2 critical hits :) not sure how to do this level by level or what to pick when :( any ideas / suggestions |
| Dethro11-12-06, 08:48 PM | Also have a look at savage species feats such as the one that gives you dr 2/- and also the ones that increase your strength/grant you rage when you take 50pts of damage. Don't even worry about monk. Just take Superior Unarmed Strike and Improved Natural Attack. |
| oontyex11-13-06, 03:31 PM | The reason for monk was that the grapple checks and special strikes all have DC's that are modified by Wis, so for him to be useful he'd need a high wis mod. Also, he has to be in light armour for the reaping mauler benefits, so i thought the AC from wis bonus from monk and the improved unarmed strike made a lot of sense to get. What do you think i should replace it with? |
| Dethro11-13-06, 10:50 PM | Personally I'd say a 2-level fighter dip. 2 extra feats is nothing to sneeze at, not to mention that having a good bab and fort is more andre's style. Pick up improved trip so that after you trip you get a free attack, load up on power attack for that and deal as much damage as you can. Then, follow it up with a free grapple, thanks to the reaping mauler ability. Pretty lethal combination there methinks? You might have to alter a few things though to be able to apply for improved trip. |
| oontyex11-14-06, 01:54 AM | what do i need to change / how do you htink i should do it? I was thinking swapping out monk3 -> monk 1/ fighter 2 and maybe swaping out shadow scout for something more *big and angry* kind of style |
| Dethro11-14-06, 03:25 AM | Swap out for more fighter levels possibly, as more feats are useful to these kinds of builds. Do you have access to the Quintessential Series by Mongoose, more specifically Quintessential Fighter and its web enhancement? http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/d20/series.php?qsSeries=8 Down the bottom there is the Web Enhancement section. The fighter enhancement has a feat called Massive. Have a look and see if your DM will allow it. |
| Ashlan11-14-06, 05:56 AM | Werebear and Half Ogre do not work for Reaping Mauler. Reaping Mauler required Clever Wrestling which requires small or medium size. Reaping Mauler is really a horrible class for any type of grappling focused build as you have to leave Improved Grapple until 6th level at the earliest and you lose all benefit if you get large+ size. |
| oontyex11-14-06, 06:57 AM | bummer :( didn't realize the prereq for the feat prereq :( hmm, well, what medium size race gives the biggest strength gain and/ or wisdom gains? |
| oontyex11-14-06, 07:54 AM | Maybe goliath: +4 st, -2 dex, +2 con, medium size, powerful build - so count as large for grapple checks :D and only +1 LA and Andre' the giant as a goliath sounds pretty cool :) So, goliath (+1 LA)/ Barbarian 1/ Monk 6/ Bear Warrior 1/ Warshaper 3/ reaping mauler 5/ Shadow Scout 1/ gives 70ft move speed, and buy: Boots of Striding and Springing (DMG p250) Increases the wearer’s land speed by +10’. +5 Competence bonus to Jump checks. gives 80ft move speed with spring attack, thats 40 in and 40 out and probably further back than they can reach, even ranged char's lose a lot of bonus beyond 30ft :) |
| oontyex11-15-06, 04:25 PM | Or do you think minotaur is better? worse stat gains, but +LA 0, and there is a feat in the same book specific to minotaurs that pretty much does the same thing as powerful build in terms of grappling maybe something like this? minotaur: fighter 2/ monk 6/ Disciple of mephisto 1/ Warrior of darkness 6/reaping mauler 5/ |
| Ashlan11-15-06, 08:49 PM | Or do you think minotaur is better? worse stat gains, but +LA 0, and there is a feat in the same book specific to minotaurs that pretty much does the same thing as powerful build in terms of grappling maybe something like this? Umm, Minotaur is 6HD and 2LA, where do you see a LA0 minotaur, even the half minotaur is LA+1 and grossly over-powered at that. Personally, I think you should drop the Reaping Mauler for any Grappling build. Be large size, take Improved Grapple find a way to get a bunch of natural attacks. |
| oontyex11-15-06, 09:01 PM | dragonlance campaign setting also, the idea of the build was to combine choke hold, sleeper hold and devastating grapple also, the feat in the same book allows the minotaur to count as a large size for grapple checks (like what powerful build gives the goliath in grapple checks) |
| Dethro11-15-06, 10:08 PM | What are the stats for the LA 0 Minotaur in the Dragonlance Campaign Setting? |
| TychoEnoch11-15-06, 11:54 PM | Actually, as a large character, you can qualify for Reaping Mauler -- you just have to take several levels of Leviathan Hunter, which gets you a prereq-free Clever Wrestling, first. -- ACS |
| oontyex11-18-06, 08:33 AM | which book / how does that work? |
