| Molot07-08-05, 04:18 PM | I'm trying to make some kind of angel as a player character. The simplest way is to take elf (sun from Forgotten, probably) and make him a half celestial. Then ne'll get wings (a must imho) and some angel-related powers. Other way is to make him a Avariel (winged elf, Forgotten) - a bit lower LA, but lack of powers. Permanent, "natural" (immune to dispelling & antimagic) wings obtained before 15'th level (ECL) are the must here. Aslo, he have to have strong magic powers, arcane and divine. My orginal idea was the Warmage2/Druid4/Arcane Hieropteran (Alternative source spell). I preffer spontaneous casting, may be psionic instead arcane. Rolled stats are 18 17 17 16 12 10 And I can move 3 points as only I wish (in the 3 - 18 borders), so for an angel 18's in int, wis and cha sounds like a good choice. He will start at 16'th level. All official books are OK, some, but only some unofficial may pass too. |
| Impeesa07-08-05, 05:48 PM | Aasimar with the feats to give you wings from PGtF would be the best route. There's also the 'winged' template in Savage Species. You're pretty much guaranteed a level adjustment no matter which route you take, so look into the UA rules for buying it off with xp. Since you're starting off at high level, the hit would be negligible. For the build itself... if you can talk your way out of the evil restriction on Ur-Priest (the 'adaptation' section mentions some ways - perhaps your angel is a champion devoted to raising their dead god), you can get cool stuff like so: Bard 7/Mindbender 1/Ur-Priest 2/Sublime Chord 2/Mystic Theurge X Remember, it's all about the flavor angle you take on it. You can speak to people through their minds, and only open your mouth to unleash the power of the angelic choir in its many forms (strong arcane and divine spells, bardic music, turn undead). --Impeesa-- |
| allenchan07-08-05, 06:05 PM | Winged template+elf=better then crapp avariel. Aasimar and outsider wings are a good choice (in RoF i think, not PGtF) There's a race in the Mini's HB, Protectars or something, that arent too bad of an LA (but you're playing a caster, so LA is a BIG problem) I'd stick with Aasimar, any more then +1 LA and you'll stink. |
| Kurama Youko07-08-05, 06:52 PM | Sounds like a cop out, really. I mean Look at the only 3 angels that are currently in 3.5 DND. The Astral Deva, The Plantar and The Solar.. Two of those Angels cast spells as clerics, have domains and spell-like abilities. The Astral Deva the weaker of the three has Spell-like abilities and only a few of which are that useful on a round by round bases. I'm trying to annoy anyone with what im about to say next but im sure it will get under some peoples skin. But stating that you want wings before 15 level, as if the character wont be celestial if it doesnt kind of urks me. You say you want a Angel character yet your second option was to take a Winged Elf and that was gonna be your whole kit and kabudul... No go flow joe. Yes you can do it tons of ways with tons of races but, im sorry I could almost scream. Fine you wanna be a winged Angel, HERE, Raptorian Saint Favored Soul, you got your wings your spell-like abilities your angel powers and your divine spellcasting. Raptorians have no racial hit dice or LA, they do develope wings at 10th lv of whatever class they are in, get the Races of the Wild book for the specifics. Saints get just about every defensive power a Angel gets, actually they do get every Defensive power a Angel gets. The Favored Soul will mesh with the Charisma Bonus and Wisdom bonus from the Saint Template. While offering you the better focused martial prowess of a Favored Soul, something akin to a angel. Before anyone else gets any ideas, im very much aware that angels use clerical preparation in terms of their spellcasting but since im suggesting something im gonna use the suggestion as i see otherwise fit, and i prefer spontaneous casting, what the creator of the thread does is on him. In Short, Raptoran Saint Whatever spellcaster floats your boat. |
| Battousai07-08-05, 07:10 PM | Check out the Infused PrC in Dragon #321 : it let's you tap angels' powers. |
| Impeesa07-08-05, 07:19 PM | Aasimar and outsider wings are a good choice (in RoF i think, not PGtF) You're probably right. Saying something interesting in FR is from PGtF is kind of a conditioned response. :) --Impeesa-- |
| Kurama Youko07-08-05, 07:34 PM | Dragon 321 has angel stuff.. i'll be damned.(but only in a good way.) Yeah so your options are open before you. Though personally, I'm a Favored Soul nut case who could wait another 2 lvs to get non dispelable wings or and so on, but to each their own. |
| Fălenganor07-08-05, 07:44 PM | Raptorans from Races of the Wild have wings and no LA, if that's what you're looking for. You could be a cleric/ bard/sublime chord/mystic theurge, a wizard/druid/arcane hierophant/mystic theurge or the old wizard(or sorcerer)/cleric/MT and finish with exalted arcanist |
| AramilWindwalker07-08-05, 08:17 PM | there's an Item called ring of solar wings(which I believe cannot be dispelled, but mordenkainen's diejunction would work) which costs 118000 gp, and gives the wearer solar(angel) wings with a flight speed of 150'(perfect maneuverability). Throw in saint, monk(?), Paladin, soldier of light, other things that give cha/wis to stuff, and cleric or some such and voila! An angel. (the item can be found at http://www.crystalkeep.com/d20/index.html in the items sections) |
| Warlord Griffin07-08-05, 10:47 PM | Here is your basic angelic build Venerable Human Saint: Monk 3/ Paladin 2/ Cleric 2/ Apostle of Peace 10/ Contemplative 1 The goal is to give your life in the service of your deity to gain sainthood then procced to get reincarnated (must be the reincarnate spell) after which you simply use the non-xp costing variant of miracle to duplicate polymorph any object on yourself (this will allow you to shift from whatever form you where in to the form of an astral deva, so therefore, oh goody goody you are for all intents and purposes an angel with all the perks thereof. If you wish more information on this build, please see my link below, I will however not be adding the promised information until AFTER the search function is fixed, whatever century that happens in. |
| catharz07-08-05, 11:03 PM | I'd go with the BoED LA+2 Half-celestial if at all possible. Failing that, Infused is pretty cool. Infused (Solar) will get you wings at character level 10, although Ghaele is the coolest IMO. |
| Seeker of Lore07-08-05, 11:10 PM | There's the Protectar (From Miniatures Handbook) Pretty much the lowest LA total for an Angel I've seen (2HD and a +3 LA) and have a base flight speed of 60 (good). If you want more info though, buy the book :D . |
| Joachim07-09-05, 10:54 AM | Just a suggestion, but you could try this Aasimar Favored Soul with Spellcasting Prodigy (Charisma) and Celestial Bloodline (taken at 1st level with a flaw, like Innattentive, and the trait Quick which gives +10 speed and -1 hp per level). Take Outsider Wings at 3rd level. Take Improved Flight (for Good maneuverability) and then claim that there was some Vaati or Air Genie blood in your past and take Air Heritage. At 9th level you would have wings, a land speed of 40 feet and a fly speed of 70 feet (good). Classes could be Favored Soul 4/Sorcerer 4/Mystic Theurge 7, and you still have feats for levels 12 and 15 to take Practiced Spellcaster (CD) for both classes. Assuming level increases go to CHA, your stats could be STR 8, DEX 18, CON 18, INT 12, WIS 18, CHA 24 (26 for number spells per day). Caster level 11 in both arcane and divine (effective caster level 15), average hps would be around 93, your save DCs would be decent because WIS is relatively high (for divine spells) and CHA could be extremely high with items (for arcane spells). Spells per day would be: Arcane: 6/8/8/8/8/5 Divine: 6/8/8/8/8/5 There may be an issue with skill points, but I don't have my DMG with me, so I am not sure. |
| Kurama Youko07-09-05, 11:37 AM | Not bad, the proceeding build is rather good cause of the charisma synergy between Sorcerer and Favored Soul, I can already see that the Sorcerer Spellcasting would probably best serve for your offensive power since the DC's are charisma based, leaving your Favored Soul spellcasting for whatever else. Nice, Though I'd like to have thrown in a bloodline feat from Dragon 311 or 325 for some extra sorcerer spells. |
