| snb113106-24-04, 01:24 AM | I have created the following stalker/slayer of evil for your perusal: Sources: PHB (Monk, Ranger) Masters of the Wild (Foe Hunter) Book of Exalted Deeds (Stalker of Kharash, Saint) Complete Warrior (Kensai) Monster Manual (Half-Celestial) Basically, the character starts out as a ranger, comes to believe in the ways of the monk (lays down his possessions), and dedicates his life to ferreting out and utterly destroying evil. Damage reduction 10/evil and 10/magic. Fast healing: each round, heal half hit die (max of 10 HP per round). Complete immunity to acid, cold, electricity and petrification attacks. Low light and 60-foot darkvision. Protective Aura: as a free action, can surround with a 20-foot sphere of light that acts as both a magic circle against evil and a lesser globe of invulnerability (as cast by a caster of hit die level - 18th, in this case). Fire and sonic resistance 15. Fort save bonus +4 vs. poison. Speak with any creature (as the tongues spell case by a 14th-level cleric); this ability is always active. Wings (fly at twice land speed - 80 feet, in this case) Protection from evil 3/day Bless Aid Detect Evil Cure Serious Wounds Neutralize Poison Remove Disease Holy Smite Dispel Evil Holy Word Holy Aura 3/day Hallow Smite Evil 1/day (damage up to half HD) Immunity to disease Attacks equal to magic weapons for overcoming DR Don't need to eat, drink, or breathe Continuous true seeing Continuous freedom of movement Regeneration (one point per hour) Questions: Would the Nemesis (evil), Bane (evil) and Rancor (vs. evil) be added to damage done to evil outsiders? I have not included them as such and am a bit unclear as to the stacking. Also, I could always use the OA's monk unarmed progression instead of the flurry...that would give me five attacks per round instead of four. I feel that, in this case, Shiba may not be so cheesy - the character can obviously justify having to protect others from the onslaught of evil. As always, I welcome comments, critiques, etc.!!!! | hobbit_killer06-24-04, 08:10 AM | I am not sure what you mean by stacking. I know the favored enemy bonus stacks but the feats and class abilities only get applied once. One question though, can you take Improved Favored Enemy multiple times? I did not think you could. If you can and I am wrong, great. If not I would go for favored enemy critical, power attack, and favored enemy power attack instead. |
| snb113106-24-04, 11:48 AM | It does not specifically say in the description that you can or cannot take it more than once (as so many feats, abilities, etc. do)...I am making a dangerous assumption, I suppose. |
| AlienFromBeyond06-24-04, 01:56 PM | If a a feat/ability/whatever does not say whether you can take it more than once, you are to assume that you can't. Meaning no mulitple Improved Favored Enemy feats. |
| hobbit_killer06-24-04, 02:15 PM | Nothing stopping you from taking extra favored enemy multiple times though. Won't give you a +3 every time but will give you a +2 to evil in general and an additional +5 towards evil members of the favored enemy you just selected. |
| saucercrab06-24-04, 07:32 PM | Is "evil" an allowable choice for a bane weapon? I know it's the favored enemy for stalkers of Kharash & Harper paragons, but it's not on the list under the bane special ability. Also, IIRC, groups & religions can be chosen as a favored enemy by rangers (FR rule?), & having a bane vs. Zhentarim weapon doesn't make sense. (I.e., bane weapons seem limited to actual creature type, while favored enemies aren't.) |
| snb113106-24-04, 10:00 PM | You folks are just finding all sorts of things wrong with my build...but that's okay! :) I assumed wrong about the Improved Favored Enemy...I'll work in some new feats, especially Extra Favored Enemy...though I believe in 3.5 all bonuses are at a +2. Edited to correct. I am also assuming that even though 'evil' is not on the bane enhancement list - just as it is not on the typical ranger's favored enemy list - it would be acceptable to take as a bane enhancement now, since 'evil' is now a favored enemy due to the Stalker of Kharash level. It just seems to be a logical assumption, IMHO. |
| hobbit_killer06-25-04, 08:09 AM | If evil is an acceptable choice for a bane weapon enhancement(which I disagree with because essentially that is what a holy weapon is for) Then this opens the door for several other favored enemy specific magic items. Enemy Spirit Pouch for evil-not to unbalancing but how do you put a piece of evil in a pouch? Bane Blind Armor for evil-now this is insane. Improved invisibility against all evil and no scent as well. This just made rogue/ranger stalkers very attractive. |
| saucercrab06-26-04, 11:12 AM | snb1131, I didn't mean to shoot a hole in your parachute, but it doesn't seem legal, IMO. But if your DM allows it, I'm sure you'll make him regret it. :smirk: |
| snb113106-26-04, 11:20 AM | Not a problem, saucercrab...that's what we're all here for... :) Like I said, I was just making an assumption...and we all know what happens when we do that. Any other suggestions? |
| saucercrab06-26-04, 11:58 AM | For that last Extra Favored Enemy, my choices would be magical beasts, elementals, or constructs. I'm currently playing a similar character (feral ranger/stalker of Kharash/foe hunter) & aside from the SoK's evil choice, I'm staying away from types that are predominantly evil in alignment; undead, evil outsiders, etc. My choices so far are magical beasts & elementals, with constructs & oozes to be chosen later. I almost always think long-term, which means epic. With Epic DR being what it is, the Bane of Enemies epic feat is very useful. Since the SoK would give me a virtual bane vs all evil creatures (it specifically states that any weapon wielded is treated as a bane weapon vs favored enemies), I thought the four types I chose would be the most valuable, as evil alignment isn't common to those creature types. (I may sound like a hypocrite, but I feel that the kensai imbuing ability would be limited to only actual weapon special abilities, while Bane of Enemies would have greater leeway, as its wording is very specific as to what it allows, & it's...well, epic.) |
