| derpderp01-17-07, 09:00 PM | hi, im a lvl 18 druid looking to maximize an animal companion. my main idea is probably a heavy damage dealer that would not cost me much in gp. i was only have access to the mm1,3, and 4. |
| Hanniball01-17-07, 09:08 PM | Some excellent suggestions here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=733400). Either way...just my 2 cp |
| mightyix01-18-07, 01:08 AM | Ebberon has a lv 6 druid spell called "Dragonblood Beast" that has a duration of hours=CL, and provides a +1/2CL natural armor bonus and a fly speed of 90(poor). Grab yourself a Tyranosaurus, an exotic saddle, cast an extended animal growth and commence to terrorizing the skies. :) PHB II has a complete list of all possible animal companions available to a druid and the sourcebook they come from. I recommend that you start your hunt for the best companion there. |
| LordBOB77701-18-07, 01:45 AM | A Dire Bear is always nice. Dont forget to pick up the feat Natural Bond to make it even tougher. |
| Bengal01-18-07, 02:26 AM | the natural bond feat is always a definite help. You might also consider one of the feats that allows for an alternative animal companion, such as a magical beast or an abberration. |
| deldyrra01-18-07, 04:56 AM | I dont know if you're playing in Faerun, but the Feral Animal Companion feat from Champions of Ruin is pretty badass. Doesnt really make sense for goodly types though. |
| derpderp01-18-07, 03:45 PM | where can i find natural bond? |
| derpderp01-18-07, 03:51 PM | or can i get it multiple times? |
| Lilt01-18-07, 04:00 PM | where can i find natural bond? It's in complete adventurer, and is completely pointless for a pure druid... It's like a +3 practiced spellcaster for animal companion. I'd personally spend that feat on your own character though, and let your animal companion's own abilities shine through (with buffs :)). |
| derpderp01-18-07, 04:05 PM | i actually have 3 feats to spend.(its complicated) |
| Momar01-18-07, 04:15 PM | It's in complete adventurer, and is completely pointless for a pure druid... It's like a +3 practiced spellcaster for animal companion. There is an argument that natural bond offsets the penalties associated with a stronger companion. It's really something you need to talk with your DM about. |
| Lilt01-18-07, 04:47 PM | i actually have 3 feats to spend.(its complicated)Momar's right that you may want to discuss that with your DM, but I'd stronly consider looking for feats for yourself rather than just deciding to spend them on your animal companion. Look at the various druid guides around... Druids are never short of potential feat slots. Consider Initiate of Nature (Player's Guide to Faerun) which allows you to rebuke and command animals... Hey-presto, you can command 2 9HD animals which can share in the Animal Growths (and perhaps other buffs) you'll undoubtedly be casting to boost your animal companion. |
| deldyrra01-24-07, 04:09 AM | so a friend and i were discussing earlier today... basically about an animal companion taking the mage slayer feats (from CArc)for the feats from its bonus hit dice... it seems pretty badass. mage slayer + pierce magical protection + blind fight + pierce magical concealment = brutal annihilation to enemy spellcasters. only 4 feats, -12 caster level, but your companion doesnt actually cast.. and it takes 4 cross-class skill ranks in spellcraft.. might be kind of hard to get. but well worth it. if you use one of the two or four hit-die animals, you'll have plenty of feats to select. as for a feat for you could take, the exalted companion feat from book of exlated deeds is pretty radical. |
| smage01-24-07, 04:58 AM | An animal companion with skill points in Spellcraft? Okay, that's just odd. :whatsthis |
