| heffroncm01-14-07, 12:02 AM | Hello again! I'm back, to try and glean more information for another player in the campaign we're playing in tommorrow. This one wants to mess with Mounted Combat, even though we are going to be primarily underground dungeon-crawling. After reading around the boards, I happened upon the idea of Halflings because their riding dogs fit most anywhere. So, would you folks please give me some criticism on this build? Halfling Paladin 5 / Outrider 4 / Cavalier 5 / Outrider +6 Strongheart: Mounted Combat LVL 1: Weapon Focus: Lance LVL 3: Mounted Archery LVL 6: Ride By Attack LVL 9: Spirited Charge LVL 12: Power Attack LVL 15: Imp. Bull Rush LVL 18: Shock Trooper |
| GaffeR01-14-07, 02:03 AM | Looks solid, though I might be tempted to move power attack up to 9th. Leap attack could be amusing if his mount can jump. I assume mounted archery is a pre-req for Outrider, right? |
| heffroncm01-14-07, 02:20 AM | He has to have Mounted Combat and Mounted Archery for Halfling Outrider. He has to have Weapon Focus, Ride By Attack, and Spirited Charge for Cavalier. I suppose he could put Power Attack at 9, take Spirited Charge at 12, and have Cavalier by levels 13-17. This doesn't gain me much from Outrider, though, and delays the Deadly Charge (x4 Lance damage on charge). As a Halfling who's going to be in dungeons a lot, he plans on having a Riding Dog as his mount. I suppose Leap Attack is an option, but it's a choice between that and Shock Trooper. Can you use Leap Attack when it is your mount doing the movement? If so, can it be part of a ride-by? |
| GaffeR01-14-07, 02:23 AM | I honeslty don't know. However, given the interaction between Heedless charge and spirited charge, I'd go with Shock Trooper. I wasn't too sure about the pre-reqs for those classes, so feel free to ignore my rambling. The build looks solid. |

DM: Okay Ted, your turn. Ted: I charge the Giant using a power attacked deadly charge... again. "Ted" will probably have to come up with a deep, involved, heartfelt backstory if he wants this character to be interesting. |
| heffroncm01-14-07, 02:59 AM | I don't think our game is going to allow for deep, involved, heartfelt backstories. We run 2 games. I run my own Forgotten Realms game on odd Sundays, and my game is the serious, heavy RP, intricate backstory game. I'm pretty sure the game we're starting is all fluff. I have my suspicions based on recent purchases, but I think he intends to run "The World's Largest Dungeon" from AEG. He has said that he'll allow anything Forgotten Realms, including prestige classes. I have no idea the basis of this module, but I get the feeling we won't be coming up for air anytime soon. |
| GaffeR01-14-07, 03:13 AM | WLD is just a big 1-20 dungeon. That's about it. You definately won't be coming up for air unless he makes some changes. Oh well, hopefully your friend will find this character amusing. I'd probably be bored with it after a session. |
