| Mattimeo7836809-15-05, 07:35 PM | Need some help with the following build, any advice is welcome, I’m not positive about the stats, and the feats could change as well. Wild Elf 32 pt-buy Str - 10 (+1) Dex - 12 (+1) Con - 14 (+2) Int - 12 (+1) Wis - 16 (+3) Cha - 14 (+2) Build Plan Cleric 5 / xx5 / Contemplative 10 Feats Point Blank Shot (Elf Domain) Level 1: Precise shot (Flaw Feats: Extra turning, Divine Metamagic (Persistant) Level 3: Zen Archery Level 6: Rapid Shot Level 9: Extra Turning Level 12: ??? Level 15: ??? Level 18: ??? Flaws: noncombatant, vulnerable (-2 melee attack rolls, -1 AC) The DM said that I could take divine metamagic without taking just persistant first. Most books are allowed as long as I check with the dm first, but I’d like to stick to the core books, and the complete books, exalted as well. Alignment will most likely be something good, and the only domain I’m positive of is Elf. I was going to try and get seeker of the misty isle, but the survival requirement killed me… I went Wild Elf for the long bow proficiency, and for the fact that they don’t get a negative to con heh. It’s starting out at lvl one as well, so I’m trying to keep it viable through all levels if possible, although the first 2-3 levels I’m prolly just gonna be the background healer If you need any more info please just ask, I'd be happy to provide it. |

You'll find that it was rewritten - Divine Metamagic applies to a particular metamagic feat that you have - which means you'll need Persistant Spell (and by extension, Extend Spell, no pun intended) before you can take Divine Metamagic (Persistant). That said, what domains do you plan on taking? Planning (Player's Guide to Faerun, Complete Warrior) will give you Extend for free. |

I'm amazed your DM let you do something like that (referring to eliminating the prereqs for Divine Metamagic). Your DM is an utter masochist. I wish I was playing under that one so I could take over a plane or two. *shrug* Oh well. Eventually I'd recommend getting Improved Rapid Shot (no more -2 penalty for using it) and Improved Precise Shot (unless it's total cover, you won't need to care). Zen Archery is a wonderful investment. I'd recommend swapping it with Divine Metamagic. Zen Archery at level 1 would make you a bigger threat. I just remembered that Improved Rapid Shot requires you to take Many Shot. :( Oh well. There's always a catch. At least you have the space for it. You were right to gun for Extra Turning. That and some Nightsticks will make your time infinitely easier. I'm not sure what class to throw in before Contemplative, however I'd suggest you take Cleric6 so that your BAB and saves can progress. Cleric5 is pretty dead when worrying about our archer's BAB. I realize that Divine Power will help, though so feel free to disregard if you find a must-have class ability. You could try Sacred Exorcist if you felt so inclined, but I'm not sure it'd exceptionally helpful for your archery aim. |
| Mattimeo7836809-15-05, 10:02 PM | Thanks for the advice, I was thinking about zen archery at lvl 1 too, but it has a +1 BAB requirement for the feat :( I think I just might take that cleric 6 for the saves if nothing else, unless I can find a prc that has an amazing bonus at level 5 in it or something. I looked at sacred exorcist several times, I never could figure out while people liked it so much, it doesn't seem that great. Is there something that I'm missing about it? I've seen people recommend it on several cleric builds I've looked through, and I never could figure out why. Thanks for the response |

That shoots that I suppose (pun wholely intended). Most people love Sacred Exorcist for flavor, for powers when eliminating possessing spirits is the theme, for continued Turning progression, and for the fact that a high Charisma arcanist like the Sorcerer can get in and not lose casting. On the that note, compare Sorcerer20 to Sorcerer10/SacredExorcist10. Your spellcasting stat also governs your Turning. Can you imagine Divine Metamagic (Persistant Spell) on an arcanist? Anyway that's the big deal. For your Cleric I doubt there'll be the need for any of its powers, so you could just go Cleric10 if you really wanted to. If you could swing Unearthed Arcana into your sources list, you could try Prestige Paladin. :D |
| Blade271809-15-05, 10:47 PM | What are your other domains? Time is a good choice, as is Luck, Travel, and Trickery. If this is FR, Divine Disciple is a good choice to snag another domain. Seeker of the Misty Isle lets you get Travel for free, but costs Survival ranks to enter. You COULD dip Ranger, but why pass up caster levels? Enter Ruathar from Races of the Wild, which gets you 4+Int skills (including Survival), 3/4 BAB, and full casting, along with some other nifty things. Cleric 6/Ruathar 3/Divine Disciple 5/Seeker of the Misty Isle 4/Contemplative 2. You can mix in more SotMI levels if you want the Magic domain, but that'll cost you a caster level, two for SotMI 10. |
| Mattimeo7836809-16-05, 12:47 AM | Perfect Blade, thanks, Ruathar is exactly the sorta thing I was looking for. Heres how my build is looking now: Cleric 6 / Ruathar 3 / Seeker of The Misty Isle 1/ Contemplative 10 the contemplative levels are for both the domains, and the spell resistance thats gained at lvl 7 in the build (15+char level spell resistance= good spell resistance!) the last 3 levels are pretty much just to make it look like i'm breaking the cleric archer TOO much ^_^ How do my stats look though? I wasn't completely happy with them, but i dunno maybe there the best choice for me. Wild Elf 32 pt-buy Str - 10 (+1) Dex - 12 (+1) Con - 14 (+2) Int - 12 (+1) Wis - 16 (+3) Cha - 14 (+2) (racial values are in effect) For domains, I'm leaning towards time, as I'll get travel from seeker of the misty isle, and trickery I can choose as one of my bonus domains, The reason I'd want it is polymorph any object anyways, and that spell doesn't appear until 8th level spells ^_^ Thanks for all the response. |
| Blade271809-16-05, 01:08 AM | If what you want from Contemplative is at level 7, then why not Clr5/Ruathar 3/SotMI 1/Divine Disciple 4/Cont 7? That way, you can get yet another domain? |
