| Fazzeren07-05-05, 07:01 AM | Ok, im playing a Human Hexblade in the Greyhawk setting. My Stats are 15, 15, 14, 14, 11, 17 Im in a dungeon setting and its likely to stay that way (though there are large subterrainian cavers i think) Useable material are any 3.5 splat books barring psionics, all splat material to be cleared by the ref first. Im at Lvl 1 and the following is my planned build if i stay pure Hex (I want the higher level Hex spells) 1: Exotic weapon proficiency: Double scimitar, Two weapon fighting 2: 3:Practiced spellcaster: Hexblade 4:+1 CHA 5: Bonus: Combat casting 6: Improved familiar 7: -Summon familiar (Winter wolf/Nightmare) 8: +1 Dex 9: Improved critical: Double scimitar 10: Bonus- Spell penetration 11: 12: +1 Dex, Improved Two weapon fighting 13: 14: 15: Bonus: Greater spell penetration, Greater Two weapon fighting 16: +1 STR 17: 18: Improved Toughness 19: 20:+1 DEX, Bonus: Spell focus-Transmutation Things I have considered: Dipping into cleric or favoured soul early (wee Jas) Force of personality feat Ability focus Feat Arcane strike feat (would like to fit this in) Any ideas on how to twek this build to enhance its performance? The ref just isnt going to allow multiple PrC's and dislikes PrC's in general. I want to stay predominiantly Hex as i love the flavour despite the weaknesses. Cheers in advance |

Cheers in advance A few things: -First of all put all you level up points into cha, it is easily the most important stat for the hexblade given all the abilities that a hexblade uses with cha. Plus I used it for divine might (see my build below) -The hexblade isn't suited for two weapon combat, it is much better suited for a two handed weapon or archery. Plus you shouldn't marry yourself to a particular weapon since there's no benefit to it for a hexblade other than blowing a few feats, especially with a rare exotic weapon that you won't likely find too many magical versions lying around. Anyways here's a build I hope you like: Str 15, dex 14, con 15, int 14, wis 11, cha 17 1- hexblade1: power attack, ability focus: hexblade curse 2- hexblade2 3- cleric1: divine might 4-hexblade3 5- hexblade4 6- hexblade5: battlecaster, combat casting 7: hexblade6 8: hexblade7 9: hexblade8: practiced spellcaster 10: hexblade9 11: hexblade10: SF: whatever 12: hexblade11: improved familar: winter wolf or nightmare 13: hexblade12 14: hexblade13 15: hexblade14: arcane strike 16: hexblade15: greater SF whatever 17: hexblade16 18: hexblade17: improved toughness 19: hexblade18 20: hexblade19 |
| Fazzeren07-05-05, 09:19 AM | Well i have to admit, i kinda had visions of a darth maul like character running in my head ;) I was hoping to compensate for the weapon rarity by having greater magic weapon when i have 3rd level spells and convincing some of the party sourcerors or clerics to take some item crafting feats (used very successfully in another campaign). I also carry a greatsword and kukri as backups and in case an alternative magic weapon turns up. Like your alternative build a lot but would rely on my GM allowing a little shuffling of my Lvl 1 stats... hes not going to be keen on that. |
| ninjarabbit07-05-05, 09:52 AM | If you want to be Darth Maul I think you'd be better off with a ranger14/fighter4/exoticweaponmaster2 or something like that, like I said earlier a hexblade really isn't suited for two weapon fighting. Another point is that with greater magic weapon you have to enchanct each end of the double weapon separately and given the limited number of spells you have I don't think it's the best use of your limited spell slots, also you have to charge each end of the weapon with arcane strike separately so you will really burn through spell with that strategy. As far as your DM goes bribe him with some fast food, you'd be surprised how many DMs are open to bribery. |
| Fazzeren07-05-05, 10:09 AM | Hmm, I hadnt considered that. Nuts. Out of curiosity where is the ruling that you have to apply spells and abilities to both ends of the weapon? is it also the case for a quaterstaff? (I have a monk in another campaign this may be relevent to) I guess there is the bribary option. Four pack of guiness may do wonders. |
