| Balkazar09-23-06, 10:44 PM | Im trying to build a archificer out of scout/ftr/rgr/artificer. Now Im thinking the artificer is going to be a base of 10, or lower depending on a few things but 10 is up there so I can use wands out of my wand sheath's and stuff. I was thinking Scout 3, rge 1, ftr6, artificer 10. That that would give me a BAB of +17, I could try a Scout5, rgr 1, ftr4, art 10, I think that would give me a +18. As I said before this is going to be a range support sorta dude. Im trying to balance out the BAB, while synergizing the bonuses of the archer feats like point blank shot and all that stuff and synergizing it with a wand user that makes wands of scorching ray, admixtured or twinned or repeated FOR EXAMPLE, sorta deal. Any help would be appreciated to get to my goal of a well balance and synergized Archificer. Base race is Warforged and even tho I wand him to have some advantage to spot and listen sense he is a support character who doesnt sleep or anything it would be good. Also my DM doesnt do XP lossage for more then 2 Base classes. So even tho the Warforged Base favored class is a Fighter, I can mix in wizard and scout and rogue and still have the kick butt maximum XP she decides to give out. ((That was just an example)) So if you could please assist me in clearing this mess I put myself into up to where I got a decent Cohort to start with and such when I get to 6th lvl would be much appreciated. Thank you. |

IIRC Artificer gives poor base attack so artificer 10 would drop you five BAB. If it gives medium BAB it would drop you 3 BAB. I know scout is medium BAB so scout 3 drops you 1 BAB, and scout 4 drops you 2 BAB. Thus your calculations for BAB are WAAAY off. Sooo you want ranged damage. You want sick metamagic with wands. That's all I see here. Artificer 20 does this really well. If you want more BAB, make a wand of Divine Power. That'll give you 20 BAB. Any help would be appreciated to get to my goal of a well balance and synergized Archificer. My suggestion? Read Caelic's popular "optimized artificer" thread. Here's a link (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=287275) Base race is Warforged and even tho I wand him to have some advantage to spot and listen sense he is a support character who doesnt sleep or anything it would be good. Also my DM doesnt do XP lossage for more then 2 Base classes. Warforged Artificer Sub-levels are pretty awesome if you have Races of Eberron. Warforged also offers some good options for artificers that are not available to other races such as the ability to infuse themselves with certain infusions. So even tho the Warforged Base favored class is a Fighter, I can mix in wizard and scout and rogue and still have the kick butt maximum XP she decides to give out. Unless you have a clear objective in mind, it's best to think simple. Mixing in all those base classes will just wear you thin. I'd stick with just artificer 20. BAB isn't that important if you can buff your attack rolls out the roof. |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 04:12 AM | The scout and the Artificer has the same Base attack as a rogue, while the Ftr has well ::) its obvious. Im trying to combine the 2 to get the most Base attack and I think a scout 3 (+2BAB) ftr 7 (+7/+3), artificer 10 (+8/+4), gets a ground total of +17 BAB however I think I may have figured out a way to get it higher I just gotta remember how to get it to a +18 lol while not sacrificing more lol to get the balance right lol. |
| fil kearney09-24-06, 04:27 AM | did you jean to say no xp penalty for classes with more than two levels difference? I don't have anythign productive to add, other than my envy of having a female dm... I always enjoyed gaming with a mixed crowd, bt none of the gurls in the team wanted to sit behind the screen. best of luck, bro. |
| Pinky's brain09-24-06, 05:10 AM | Level 9&10 of artificer are pretty poor, you only get craft rod and one additional 4th level infusion (craft reserve too, but I have never found that very important). Can't really give much more advice than that without knowing the books you can use ... and to a lesser extent if you will be using the cheesier parts of the game (persistent spell and polymorph mostly). |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 09:33 AM | Thats right, I am trying to make this character into a good archer while still retaining the power of an artificer with the right combination of classes and feats, while not skimping out on other things. Sense this character will be using wands more often then staffs and he has a 10 cha staffs arent much use to this character sense he will be using the majority of spells that grant range touch, no SR, no Saves spells. So I dont see the use for staves. Kearney: That was a few EXAMPLES, I would never EVER! combine THAT! many classes unless I had too and I dont need too from my point of veiw. Theres a pit fighter base attack in one of the books cant remember which one that allows a certian amount of EWP feats at first lvl, purgilist I think, and ? Could someone give me the info for that place I think that may solve some problems for me lol. |
| Pinky's brain09-24-06, 10:44 AM | Slowing down a bit in your thinking and writing would solve some problems for you ;) Personally as a warforged archer Id start with artificer 8, instead of using a bow use a stonespitter graft from Fiend Folio at low levels ... flavour fits the warforged, and at 2000 gp it's an absolute steal. At higher levels as long as you have decent charisma the bow of songs is a very nice bow, you can activate it with UMD as many times a day as you want. With manyshot you get cha to damage on all your arrows, throw in find the gap and quickened hunter's mercy and you are golden. Id forget about getting sneak attack and skirmish from class levels, the damage is very situational and you can get sneak attack from spells ... class levels are too expensive. |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 10:53 AM | What book is bow of songs from ? What do you mean 'Class lvls are to expensive'? Is stone splitter graft good at higher lvls too ? |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 11:03 AM | I just read the stone spitter thing, thats pretty good. Tho why the low damage ?, its like d4, then if done the rapid firing thing its d6+1, the spitter reminds me of the plasma gun, that the predators used on there shoulders in AVP. Maugs are constructs right ROFLMAO?. How do you figure im golden with a d4 base damage with a bullet, d6+1 with rapid shooting and all that stuff ? Can it be reloaded ? |
| Pinky's brain09-24-06, 11:30 AM | What book is bow of songs from ?Complete adventurer. What do you mean 'Class lvls are to expensive'?Ehm, every class level you spend on rogue and scout are class levels better spend on other classes. Is stone splitter graft good at higher lvls too ?Not really. Anyway, here's what you do at low levels ... you throw personal weapon augmentation bane on your stonespitter, and you stop caring about base damage. Yes, you can reload it ... it takes stone bullets just like a sling. The bit about being golden was for when you start using find the gap + manyshot + hunter's mercy + bow of songs. Find the gap means you have to hit touch AC, hunter's mercy makes one of your arrows crit and the bow of songs gives you charisma mod to attack and damage. It's not going to instakill, but it's decent damage and will hit on anything except for a 1. |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 11:39 AM | Find the gap ? wheres that from ? |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 11:47 AM | Dont I need bardic music ability to use the bow properly ? |
| Pinky's brain09-24-06, 11:53 AM | Dont I need bardic music ability to use the bow properly ? Find the gap is from the Spell Compendium, it's wraithstrike for manyshot archer's basically. As for the bow of songs, see the "emulate a class feature" example for UMD in the PHB. It allows you to emulate the fact that you are expending a turn undead attempt, so it would also allow you to emulate expending a bardic music attempts. |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 11:56 AM | You mean I can emulate say a bards singing ability, or a clerics turn/rebuke ability just as a cleric of say a 8th lvl artificer ?, Dooes that work for a sorcerers spontaneous casting too :D? Anything other information I should know ? Good class combos or the like ? |
| Pinky's brain09-24-06, 11:58 AM | You can emulate the ability for the purpose of activating items only :) You still haven't mentioned what books you can use. |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 12:02 PM | Oh sorry, No dragon magazines. Core, Complete, Races, PHB2, TOB, pretty any anything except UA, only thing allowed out of UA is the traits and flaws, and the way my background is written, im taking the -1 to AC and -3 reflex flaws because of the way this cohorts history is written. This is a more of a RP sorta game, but a good mix of RP and combat. |
| Balkazar09-24-06, 12:05 PM | Sub lvls are allowed as well, which should open up some interesting warforged artificer possibilities, :). Weapon familiar!, tho I dont see how a character with weapon familiar would have over 100 HP by 5th lvl tho. My stats are in order from Str to Cha and the Racial mods are included. 14, 18, 18, 16, 10, 10. |
