I have found that disgusting and unrealistic creature ti be a good start to optimize natural attacks. Upon doing so, I have looked through CO boards and have found that I was nowhere the first one, obviously... Nevertheless, I want to make a summary and listen what you guys can offer me for further optimization.

First off, it has 8 tentacles, not 13 (as posted somewhere around there). As giant squid has 10 ones and two become legs.

Second, the race virtually cries for Souleater 1.

Third, Extend Reach feat is good one.

What can you advice for making this one a terrible creature? I dislike Incarnum things, as they tend to be quite a long way to gain. Any ways to get pounce? Increase speed? Would Bo9S help out there? Any opinions, please.

Unanswered questions yet:
Would AGS have double reach as normal Giant Squids do?
Would it have destructible tentacles?
Would all Soul Eater stuff work with selected natural attack only (say with tentacles) or with all of them?
Would combat rhytm tactical feat (all attacks you make are touch attacks dealing no damage) also activate soul eaters's Energy Drain ability?
To be Feral or no to be - solved, to be.
To be PsyWar or War Mind.

Current version:

Feral Anthropomorphic Giant Squid - 3 HD, LA +2, Large Monstrous Humanoid

2 LA / Monstrous Humanoid 3 / Psychic Warrior 3 / Soul Eater 1 / Psychic Warrior +2 / Kensai 1

Feats:
1 - Weapon Focus (Tentacle)
3 - Alertness
4 (PW 1) - Martial Study (Iron Heart, Punishing Stanse)
5 (PW 2) - Combat Expertise
6 - Iron Heart Aura
9 (PW 5) - Martial Study (Iron Heart, Ironheart Surge)
9 - Storm Vanguard

Edit: Updated. No more Thayan Gladiator.

make it a Feral Anthropomorphic Giant Squid

Thank you, carnivore. I was thinking about it, but AFAIK most DMs, even if they allow Anthro things OR feral something (but often DMs just say NO), apply bonuses of Feral template based on racial HD instead of HD total. I also find that kinda balanced - and thus Feral Anthro G-Squid will have following statistics:

Large Monstrous Humanoid,
HD 3d10,
Speed 40 ft and swim spd,
NA +6 (because Feral template uses the higher of two values)
10 tentacles (1d4), 2 claws (2d6) and bite (1d10)
Improved Grab (Claw)
Darkvision 60
Fast Healing 2
Str +12, Dex +6, Int -4 (min 2), Wis +6, Cha -4
Jet, Ink Cloud
LA +2

I am confused - do I understand that right? Would AGS have double reach as normal Giant Squids do? Would it have destructible tentacles? Would all Soul Eater stuff work with selected natural attack only (say with tentacles) or with all of them? And the last one - don't you find that combat rhytm tactical feat (all attacks you make are touch attacks dealing no damage) will alos activate soul eaters's Energy Drain ability?

In a Faerun game, Snow Tiger Berserker feat gives pounce when using light weapons (all natural weapons are light). Prereq: right region, and rage.

Binders can eventually bind Chupoclops for pounce.

Lion's Charge spell, of course (a continuous item was estimated around 26000 gp, recently, if correct).

You don't want to shapechange into a cat, obviously, so that's out.

That's level 6 vestige and is obtainable at Binder 12 - more than I can accept. 12 level dip kills melee character with LA 2...

I'll better manage out Initiator Level 11 and take Pouncing Charge Maneuver.

Also like Lion's Charge idea. Item is useful, but can be not approved by DM. What about psionics? Something like Lion's Pounce... and/or Expansion... Psychic warrior can bring some feats and I don't need BAB for iterative attacks... Also, I'm Large and can benefit of War Hulk....

What books? You didn't comment on the Snow Tiger Berzerker. Although if the roleplaying requirement is enforced... it might be a bit difficult. I doubt most Rashemi berzerker lodges would let Cthulu join. :D Psychic Warrior is a very good idea.

You could play a tauric feral anthropomorphic giant squid/leopard for pounce.

No way, Feral AGS is highest ECL I can accept... Not quite sure, but I want to advance in PrCs mostly. Thayan Gladiator is best when taken 7-10 levels, so I need a space there. Also I need PsyWar 4 to make my Pounce... (AND Expansion. Reach = good) Anyway, what stats that scary tauric thing can offer?

better use Warmind than Psychic warrior.....Full BAB,more PP, better abilities.....but lose the bonus feats, and have fewer powers

for that matter Psion 5 gives 2 bonus feats and is only 1 BAB lower than PW 5

Definitely. Sweeping Strike + 10 Tentacles = Fun.

If I want to go Feral AGS, I gonna eat -4 penalty on Int. It can be troublesome to meet prerequisites - 8 ranks in knowledge. Cross-class, by the way. Can prove still useful, if I will NOT use Warhulk. So let it be PW. And I dislike frail psion... Maybe I just underestimate him, though. Any opinions? I have asked some questions above, does anyone care?

Yep, fun. But why not use War Hulk? 4 levels would do. Still War Mind makes for psionics, also... I need to think. Anyway, sweeps are sweat. When your touches bestow negative levels.... Hey, I like it. What will be next step?

:DI thought of suggesting Warmind, but figured the bonus feats might be worthwhile. Psion is a definite possibility, though. The "problem" might be that some of the better powers for this are on the psiwarrior list, and not psion (like Psionic Lion's Charge).

Yeah, whole psionic idea was about Psyonic Lion's Charge (and possibly expansion). So considering all matters, I think I'll go PsyWar 4 and War Hulk 4 to gain Mighty Sweep. That is particulary useful when every +2 to your STR score make a return of +8 (assuming all attacks hit).

Another question - do I need Wild Talent feat to become PsyWar? I am little confused.

DAMN!! I can't be soul eater and war hulk the same time!! Damned no time to think! Well, I should stick to War Mind, then. The only way to get sweeps, thus. Alas, alas, alas.

New Build:
Feral Anthropomorphic Giant Squid - 3 HD, LA +2, Large Monstrous Humanoid

LA 2 / Racial 3 / Fighter 1/ Warblade 1/ Soul Eater 1 / Thayan Gladiator 2 / [open 1] / War Mind 5 / [open 1], ECL 17

Feats (by HD):
1 - Education
3 - Alertness
4 (Fighter 1) - Weapon Focus, Tentacle
6 - Toughness
9 - Wild Talent
12 - Ironheart Aura
15 - Storm Vanguard

Pretend FAGS has no items at all.

That thing can charge for 80 ft., then make full attack [using Psyonic Lion's Pounce] (not sure, maybe with reach of 20) for 8 tentacles, 2 claws and bite. All attacks are sweeping strikes, thus can attack two adjucent targets. 8 tentacles bestow 1 negative level each, provided they all hit. If you want to be cruel, just activate Combat Rhythm before attack - voila, most attacks hit. Roll for criticals and natural 1's just to be sure - your attacks don't deal actual damage, yet they bestow negative levels just fine! If enemy (-ies) still alive, next round you gonna deal +55 damage per hit, thanks to Combat Rhythm. Thus, no problems with DR.

The one poor save gonna be Will, but your Wisdom is high enough - thanks to racial adjustment. +6, no kidding.

Oh, I see... Whatever. You probably would not need sweeping strike on the round you charge - weaken foe with Rhythm of Drain and be ready to land attacks next round. War Mind is just for pounce, actually. Another question is - do I still need Gladiator in the build? And I do not, how to advance later on?

Add the multi-headed template (take a close look at it, especially the superior multi-limb and multi-weapon abilities). It gives you iterative attacks with each limb. So a anthropomorphic squid with +16 BAB would have +16/11/6/1 attacks for each limb. Scary.

Actually, that wouldn't work. That special attack is Superior Two-weapon Fighting (or Superior Multiweapon Fighting in case of 3+ handed creature). Has nothing to do with natural attacks. Descriptive text states that you can attack with no penalty using each weapon holding limb (!) as if it was primary hand. That is not usable for natural attacks. Other benefits of the template do not worth +2 HD, +2 LA. Not for this race. Not for this build.

I'll admit it's been a while since I read it, and I'm at work so I can't read it now, but I could've sworn the superior multi-limb attack covered natural attacks and superior multi-weapon attack covered weapons. And the template gave whichever was appropriate for the creature. Is it just multi-weapon? Take a level of monk, there's your multi-weapon attack. :P

Yeah, yeah, you gain multi-weapon fighting - provided you can use natural weapons ONLY. So no. Even if you take that feat, it wouldn't work that way. Even with a level of monk, actually. Monk can flurry or use iterative attacks with his unarmed attack, not with natural ones. That would be an overkill, but luckily that wouldn't do.

No, thanks. Completely different idea. Anyway, tentacles would deal 1d4 damage, not 2d6. I mean, Huge Giant Squid deals 1d6, reduce by one step - voila. 1d4. That was just first look...
Belt of magnifience would increase mental abilities, too... Seems pretty wrong to me. Sorry.

It does increase, the temporary scores are right next to the real scores, and right there! I know Bob might be more optimized with last level of soul eater, but whirling frenzy just had more flavour in it... and the barbarian speed is just AWESOME for him.

Anyways, the ridiculous damage is due to the ridiculous template stacking, not the courtesy of how much a real huge giant squids tentacles do.

And, feral turns ones hands into claws, well an anthro giant squid has 8 "hands" so thus, they turn to claws.

Lets see, other glaring miscommunications... oh right, Bob is a demigod, i just havent put the abilities up yet, even tho hp is already maxed. And he will have more items too, still 300k-ish to spend. Was thinking retributive amulet, starmantle cloak and ring of evasion atleast. Then ring of freedom of movement, soulfire enchament to armor, heavy fortification enchament to one buckler, reflection enchament to another buckler, and yet another mithral buckler with another enchament and... and...

Yeah, he is so gonna have armoured tentacles!

Anyways, yes the tentacles and only tentacles have double reach, and yes they indeed are destructible. So get your damage reductions/resistances/regeneration/fast healing up or you'll find yourself... tentacleless.

Not good for the hentai indrustry, not at all. =P

EDIT: Oh right, yeah. Bob is quite different from what youre going for, but I just put him out there for you to get ideas out of. Hope it helps even a little. =P

Basically... you take an animal, like lets say a whale... and turn it humanoid!

Like, half humanoid half whale.

Think the elephant god from one of those asian mythologies.

The anthropomoprhic part usually just gives you a little wisdom and few racial hitdices along with other bonuses; barring cool looks its best used for baleen whale for the strenght, giant squid for the tentacles and various cats for pounce.

Why not just use chain tripper tactics and wait for them to come to you, no need to pounce... but AoO + Sweeping Strike is good.

Two quick questions

One: What book is Souleater in?

Two: Why not go with ten levels of war hulk? (the last ten). That would allow you to do 10 (20 with multiattack) attacks per round at EVERY creature you can reach. Toss in that abberant blood/additional reach feat and that's a whole lot of damage.

1. BoVD, as lostone stated.
2. War Hulk is known for his No Time To Think ability, which effectively makes you lost all benefits of Soul Eater's PrC. As you no longer meet prerequisites, you don't gain benefits. That was covered somewhere in CW.

Abberant Blood feat requires you to be a humanoid, and all of Anthropomorphic animals are actually monstrous humanoids, that is dont qualify. Also that feat, Inhuman Reach, IIRC, requires you to be of Medium size, and you are Large. At least, I mean. If you use expansion, you are damned Huge, and if you augment it by 6 PP, ypu are damned Gargatuan.

You can actually increase your reach with Extended Reach monstrous feat, but the build is already over-feat-extensive.

I am going to think if some levels in Kensai will be tasty... Whaddya all think?
Armoracia Rusticana

Kinda BUMP.

I tried to mix PsyWar there instead of War Mind - I need feats to bad!

Well, I feel satisfied. Due to multiclassing problems I've got rid of War Blade and Fighter - PsyWar is base class, and thus cause XP penalties.

I hit Soul Eater one level later - but I hit Psionic Lion's Charge way much earlier!

With feats saved by taking dase Psy class instead of PrC (and with Psy War's bonus feats) I even managed to squeese (spelling?) Storm Vanguard into the build without a single level of any martial adept.

Actually, a single purpose of that re-building was to make the build shorter and to find a way to qualify for Kensai as fast as possible. And I've done it. Here's the current build.

2 LA / Monstrous Humanoid 3 / Psychic Warrior 3 / Soul Eater 1 / Psychic Warrior +2 / Kensai 1

Feats:
1 - Weapon Focus (Tentacle)
3 - Alertness
4 (PW 1) - Martial Study (Iron Heart, Punishing Stanse)
5 (PW 2) - Combat Expertise
6 - Iron Heart Aura
9 (PW 5) - Martial Study (Iron Heart, Ironheart Surge)
9 - Storm Vanguard

At ECL 12 I have:

1. 8 Tentacles +1 That Bestow Negative Levels
2. Combat Rhythm Trick
3. Psionic Lion's Charge
4. BAB +7 - doesnt really matter. I hit with great STR score (+12 racial), weapon focus and signature tentacles (tm). Also see 2. I need to hit touch AC sometimes.
5. Base saves of +7, +6 and +8 for Fort, Ref and Will respectively. That is definitly not too shaby - with no multiclassing that would make +8 on strong save and +4 on weak one. +6 on Dex and Will also make for saves great deal.
6. Natural Armor +6, fast healing 2.
7. Once per encounter - Iron Heart Surge.

How many levels of Kensai should I take? I think of all the rest. I really would like to hear your thoughts about it!
