| Doxter11-02-05, 07:57 PM | Is it possible to cast Antimagic Field on yourself, and still be able to have buffs running, using magic items, casting spells, etc.? I have been looking at some builds where they use AF, and are still able to use spells and buffs. How is that possible? The only thing I know of that lets you cast spells in AF is the Initiate of Mystra feat from PGtF. But there must be more to it? Any help / explanation would be appreciated, thanks. |

And both the other mentioned things -- Mastery of Shaping from Archmage, and Extraordinary Spell Aim from CV -- can allow you to create a "hollow" antimagic field... a so-called Antimagic Shell. I believe that only Mastery of Shaping can allow you to create a hole in the shell to cast out of, should that be an issue, though, since Extraordinary Spell Aim causes the spell to avoid a single square -- yours, in this case -- but the shell remains intact around you. This would be phenominal in the right melee gish build, and I believe the Twice-Betrayer uses this trick. Meanwhile, Mastery of Shaping creates a bunker-like defense that works wonders for casters in general -- thankfully, since it involves the ARCHMAGE. Hope that helps. |

Correct? What about a targeted effect such as Magic Missile - do they wink out as they enter the shell but strike home nevertheless since the target is unprotected? |
