You'll have to give us a little more to work with. What books are allowed? Are highly magical non-spellcasters (like, say, MoMF) okay?

Kobold Commoner 8 with all three armor proficiency feats should do nicely. For a weapon, I prefer a dagger.

Massively, Overly Mindless Freak.

Please look at the forum guidelines, or play the build I suggested.

Goblin Commoner 8. Skill Focus: Basketweaving, Skill Focus: Underwater Basketweaving, and Skill Focus: Conceptual Underwater basketweaving. You'll make a killing as a merchant. :D

If you want something roguish, then I suggest this:
Rogue5/Invisible Blade5/Master Thrower5/Rogue5 (I know that you want 8th level characters, but it seems like this would be playable throughout your campaign)
Skills: Anything you want, but pick up lots of sleight of hand, Bluff, Sense Motive, and Use Magic Device (to get wands of improved invisibility, etc.)
Feats: Far Shot, Point Blank Shot, Weapon Focus(dagger), Precise Shot, as well as feats such as Neraph Throw, Flick of the Wrist, and other, similar feats that kill your opponent's Dexterity bonus.

This character's basic plan is to throw a huge pile of daggers into your enemies' throats.

Everyone's giving you a hard time because you didn't offer your own build. We prefer that you put some work in before asking us to do so. It's ultimately more helpful to you, and less work for us.

P.S. MOMF stands for Master of Many Forms

BTW, necrosnoop110 has posted a link to the character build that our resident cheeseball (JW) is using to build his backup character, Rainbow.
He's incorporating other tricks into it, but that build is the basis for the character. Just FYI.

As for character build ideas at 8th level...
How about a Goliath Monk?
Or a Deurgar Psychic Warrior?
Or maybe a Human Exemplar?
:-P

In your group already, you have:
*A Cleric whose race is yet to be determined.
*A Whisper Gnome Illusionist
*A Rogue who's going into fighter at 9th and 10th level and will then take Dervish at 11th going up.

I believe that your group needs a martial class to round off the missing combat prowess. Not a "hang back and shoot" character either. A tank who'll be confident in his ability to charge up and "blargh" through opponents.

We know the Cleric will be severely allergic to combat or anything that even remotely threatens him with actual damage.
The Wizard is going to be supportive, but he's going to be distancing himself from close combat.
The Rogue will support a close combat fighter, but will not wade in by himself.

I believe that you were thinking of some sort of Paladin build....?
If so, why don't you ask more specifically for ideas with that?

Didn't your friend tell you about Wild Plains Outrider the other night, Rainbow?
I thought you were dedicated to coming up with your own tech.
