Is there any builds on the boards for d20 modern?

not usually, but I was working once on some urban arcana builds. Something like smart3/technomage10/archmage5/artificer2 struck me as about the best mage build in that setup.

With only 2 books currently out from WotC for d20 modern there really isn't a whole lot to work with yet. Generally speaking, as long as the classes compliment each other in any way the build will turn out good.

The basic Wizard type build is probably going to become Smart 3/ Mage or Techno Mage 10/ Archmage 5/ Any 2.
Artificer looks good to finish this off, but Field Scientist's first level ability that adds Int to AC would really make any spellcaster rock.
Additionally replacing a level of Smart with Tough or Fast could beef up the character at low levels, since as long as you take Smart at 1st and 3rd you'll have no trouble meeting the prerequisites for the caster classes.

For any melee character a 1 level dip into Archaic Weapon Master is a great choice for the weapon specialization. Though as far as swordfighter builds, Shadow Slayer is easily the best to get 10 levels in for any Urban Arcana or Shadow Chasers game.

For a telepath build I'm looking at Fast 2/ Charismatic 1 with the Psychic occupation as an intro. Less CHA skills, and lower BAB but great defense.

Generally I find that taking an occupation that offers differant, but useful, class skills than your primary base class is the best route to go. The right choice of occupation can help you avoid taking 3 levels in a class before entering an Advanced class. Actually, the only advanced classes you need to take 3 levels in a core to enter into at the earliest level are the ones with a BAB requirement.

It might not be a bad idea to start a d20 modern build thread, I'm sure we could find a few less obvious class combonations if we looked hard enoguh.

d20 Modern is easier to min/max.

You look for the advanced class you want to aim for, and you look for routes other than the recommended to get there, but usally the recommended one is best.

Example:

Mage, Techie, Shadowjack are all bested reached with Smart.

However, somethings the advanced class isn't what you thought it was (Techie is not the best for a Hacker.. ideally Smart 20, but Smart only goes up to 10, otherwise Savant would be too good... Savant adds your Smart Hero level to the skill you select Savant for... imagine getting +10 to Computer Use Checks!)

I'm all for the d20 modern build thread idea, and will find some stuff to post shortly. Admittedly, it is somewhat easier than dnd, mainly due to lack of material. But perhaps it could help promote interest in the game.

We are both in an Alien game, but you already have a character for that. (And I still think you should've taken Burst Fire over Double Tap)

I've heard you express interest in Mages and Telepaths, but those are pretty self explanitory.
