| EvilVegan07-12-05, 08:32 PM | My friends don't think the HW is a good PrC. . . well I want to play something that proves them wrong. . . So I know ranger 3 is a good start, and HW 6 is all I'm going, for the dimension door, and as an 18th level feat taking quicken spell-like ability . . . I basically just need to know of any builds or recommendations on what direction to take things. So I'm currently thinking maybe: Ranger3/Hexblade3/HW 6 ??! |
| X-Codes07-12-05, 09:49 PM | Tiefling Ranger 3/Rogue 9/Horizon Walker 7/Shadowdancer 1 Take Deepening Darkness (Races of Faerun) and Shifting and Cavernous planar terrains. Other terrains should be Underground, Desert, Forest, Marsh, and Plains. Don't bother taking Quicken Spell-Like Ability (dimension door) because using it ends your turn, anyway. Otherwise, you will have deeper darkness 3/day as a spell-like, dimension door every 1d4 rounds, 120' darkvision, huge hide modifiers and HIPS... In a party you will be a great scout that will never need to be rescued thanks to your impressive evasion abilities, and you will never be blind to enemies because of tremorsense and massive darkvision range. |
| rilem07-12-05, 09:54 PM | The best Horizon Walker builds include a PrC or feat that relies on Dimension Door, for the shifting ability. Telflammar Shadowlord (Unapproachable East) is probably the most obvious for the full-attack shadow pounce. Ranger3/Rogue4/HorizonWalker6/TelfShadowlord6/NightsongEnforcer1 BAB +17, Sneak +3d6, Blur, Death Attack, Spells, Shadow Pounce There's also the Monk feat Sun School (attack after a dim. door) Monk6/Ranger3/ShouDisciple5/HorizonWalker6 BAB +18, 2d6 unarmed, greater flurry with any weapon, Sun School attack. Another good use is with Barbarian for the Desert terrain (immune to fatigue) After level 6 or 7 (enough for tremorsense and shifting terrain) the class matters less. |
| Baneslayer07-12-05, 10:08 PM | I like the Barb 2/Ranger 3/HW X combo with Extra Rage and Extend Rage. Or Scout 2/Ranger 3 if you don't want Desert Terrain Mastery. Splash Occult Slayer or Dragon Slayer for beefing up your Will saves instead of taking Hexblade, you'll be getting some really nice class abilities. |
| EvilVegan07-12-05, 10:14 PM | Thanks for the help guys. How about: Ranger 3/Hexblade 3/HW 7/Exotic Weapon Master 1 Getting flurry of blows with EWM and using a spiked-chain with the Sun School feat, Dimension door/trip/attack. Is that a good idea? Just need Exotic Weapon Prof, Weapon Focus, and Sun School. . . |
| rilem07-12-05, 10:39 PM | EWMs don't qualify for Sun School — It requires Flurry of Blows, not Flurry of Strikes. Similar but different. There are double Monk weapons you can use if you don't want to invest in Shou Disciple — Lajatang, for example, from CW, or Two-bladed sword (with Eberron feat). So Ranger3/Monk2/Hex3/HW6/EWM1 would work. |

I'm sure my DM would allow me to take sun school with it (I'm more of a rules-lawyer than he is, and I'd allow it IMC), I don't have the books for shou disciple, or if I do I don't think he'd allow it. He pretty much allows only the complete books, certain things from UA, and BoED/BoVD. Unapproachable east is right out. Also I think he may be banning monks from the campaign. . . I'll see. I'd like evasion in there anyway. 2 levels of monk would be pretty good (saving throw-wise anyway). If I went monk I could just take improved trip and not bother with the EWM levels. I actually would like that better I suppose. . . Ranger 3/Monk 2/Hex 3/HW 7. 5 levels left. . . for? Just need to pick a race and I think I'm pretty set. . . |
| X-Codes07-13-05, 12:47 AM | Tiefling, start 3k xp below the party level and you are set. And take Deepening Darkness. It doesn't let you do Deeper Darkness 3/day, but rather a heightened Darkness 3/day, which is barelly any weaker. As for the last 5 levels, I say go Shadowdancer 5. That nets you uncanny dodge, improved uncanny dodge, defensive roll, and HiPS. |
| catharz07-13-05, 01:14 AM | Ranger 3/Fighter 2/Crinti Shadow Marauder [SS] 5/Horizon Walker 6. BAB +14, Shadow pounce, effective 2d6 SAD for later PrC entrance. Use your animal companion as a mount, grab Leadership later for a better one. |
| PhaedrusXY07-13-05, 01:55 AM | A mage-killing HW build. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=6150094&postcount=20) |
| EvilVegan07-13-05, 07:47 PM | It doesn't have blind-fight, which is required for pierce magical concealment, but it does have that extra feat, so I like it, plus its what I already wrote up mostly. Thanks Phaedrus. |
| PhaedrusXY07-13-05, 08:03 PM | Oops. I forgot that was a prereq. I don't own any of the books with that feat. I changed the post. Thanks. |
