| gunnarr10-24-05, 12:34 PM | Hi. My team of six(including GM) is starting on a low-lvl campaign which starts from lvl 3 and will be leveling slow-moderately. Rulebooks we are using are only core + "Complete" series books. It would be appreciated if you could give me some suggestions on which character would be strong in this low lvl, except barb and rogue(two of my friends already chose these classes) If I choose arcane magic-using classes, I need to have my lvl 1 feat as Spellcasting Prodigy (somekind of campaign setting blahh) .. Would Warlock be good even with this limit? Also, would bard be ok at this lvl? or would I just be sitting in the back doing nothing while the party is in combat...hmm Thanks! |
| WotCWannabe10-24-05, 12:44 PM | a warlock doesn't cast spells, so i believe a warlock would be exempt from the spellcasting prodigy requirement. |

Since this feat doesn't appear in your source books - find out which version the gm is using. If it's the Player's guide to Faerun version (just bonus spells as +2 casting stat) avoid the arcanes. If it's the dragonlance/Faerun 3.0 version (for the purposes of spellcasting your casting attribute is 2 higher) - Arcane is good to go - you'd have to be drunk not to take this feat at level 1 for a caster anyway |

I'd still looking at filling out the un-filled basic rolls. Probably either cleric or wizard to start. |
| Amphetryon10-24-05, 06:25 PM | With a 6 player party, I'd be more inclined to take up Bard than I would otherwise, simply because you become Mr Versatility. If you're human, I would take Extra Music, SFocus: Perform, and Sudden Still (grapple is bad, mmmkay?) as your Feats at 3rd level. If the DM enforces the Spellcasting Prodigy rule on you a a Bard (and it sounds like he will) move Sudden Still to 6th level and pray you're not grappled. With a Barb and a Rogue already, I'm going to guess that your party doesn't need you in melee, so Snowflake Wardance is probably not necessary. Use your bow, the best one you can pull, and concentrate on making everyone else that much more efficient. As you progress, get your Skills in line for Sublime Chord 2 as soon as possible. Higher levels might make Virtuoso or Seeker of the Song attractive choices. |
| canadianguy10-24-05, 09:35 PM | warlock is an excellent class at low levels. Only option I like is two levels of chameleon but not an option oh well. Feat suggestions, point blank and precise shot with eldritch spear. You could also go level of thief and take the tumble and jump boosting feats then go daggerrspell mage. If you go wizard think gnome illusionist with spell focus and greater speel focus and be a normal gnome |
