without it being an Ex-Knight/Bard?

I really think those two classes could go well together in a roleplaying way...having a jovial knight that entertains with song and story,

if needbe, I can obviously just make a Knight with proficiency with music instrument etc. But the Bard abilities would be nice to have, and also help with my leanings toward having my Knight double as a Diplomat.

Basically I want to have a knightly character, who is also well learned and cultured, but can still bring the pain when things go wrong! :)

So...any way to make a Knight/Bard? :)

There's a feat that allows multiclassing between Paladin/Bard, but I've forgotten its name. There's also Paladin of Freedom. Anyway, a very powerful build involving either option is to go Sublime Chord, and then advance it with something like Sacred Exorcist and/or Eldritch Knight/the new guy (5 lvl PrC, strictly better than EK, don't remember the name).

Anyway, it looks like this:
Paladin 2/Bard 8/Sublime Chord2/X8 where X is some PrC that advances casting and gives some cool melee cheese to boot.

Take Practiced Spellcaster and you get CL 20, 9th level spells, CHA bonus to saves and a fighting beast. Enjoy.

An alignment change is all you need. A Bard doesn't lose any class abilities when he becomes lawful.

Go Marshal instead of Bard. I think they get perform and the auras would be beneficial.
