I'd like the vampiress to be CR 7 or 8, which means 5 or 6 character levels, at least one of which needs to be Cleric. Two feats from the Savage Species book (Ability Focus and Irresistable Gaze) provide a +4 to the DC of the save. Piercing Gaze and Pervasive gaze extend the distance the gaze attacks effectiveness, and make it more difficult to avoid the gaze attack. The other thing I was thinking about was creating a Necklace, or Crown of Mind Fog. As a spell triggered charged item useable once a day the item would cost approximately 3375 plus around 300 gold pieces to cover the cost of the necklace or crown. I prefer the idea of a necklace, but somehow the fact that the spell is mind fog makes me think of a crown. Note, that using this item would require my vampiress to have at least 1 level of Sorcerer or Wizard (or invest skill points in 'Use Magical Device"), but the -10 on Wisdom checks and Will saves for her victims might be worth it. I have a bit of background developed for this character, but it doesn't really matter in the optimization, just keep in mind that I rarely if ever intend to have her in combat for very long. If she can't gain the upper hand using her dominate, she'll leave in a heartbeat (or whatever it is that vampires have pulsing within them). So there are my starting thoughts, and here is my version 0.1 build. Keep in mind that I'm only using WOTC products at this time, though would take suggestions for information found elsewhere. Name: Rydera Race: Human Vampiress Class: Cleric 6 AL: Lawful Evil Deity: Nerull Feats: Ability Focus (Dominate), Irresistable Gaze, Pervasive Gaze. Items: Necklace of Mind Fog (3675 gp), 2 daggers, elegant clothing. Skills: Bluff +2, Diplomacy +8, Use Magical Device +4 This makes the gaze attack at DC17, and if a Mind Fog spell can be cast before hand, the will save will be at -10. Add the Clerical spell Doom for an additional -2 to saves if time allows. Thanks in advance for any assistance, Paul |
