Any way to Weapon Finesse a Longsword? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-03-05, 03:07 AM You can weapon finesse a katana through Iaijusto Master (OA) and you can weapon finesse a scimitar through Dervish (CW); is there any way to weapon finesse a Longsword?

I ask because I'm trying two incorporate 2 levels of Champion of Correllon (RoW) for Elegant Strike, into a TWF/Dervish/Tempest/Dex.SAD build.

The feat requirements for Champion of Correllon seem to be a pain.
Mounted Combat? When none of the classes features relate to mounted combat? Errata?

...but I'd be prepared to live with that, if I didn't have to waste another feat on Weapon Focus (Longsword) or EWP (elven thinblade/courtblade).
The thinblade and courtblade are finesse-able, but the former is piercing (incompatible with Dervish) and the later is a two-handed. A longsword is slashing (compatible with Dervish) but not finesse-able.

What to do?

06-03-05, 03:24 AM The first thing that comes to mind is to enlarge yourself so the longsword is comparitively a light weapon. There are probably better ways than that though.

06-03-05, 04:52 AM What does Elegant strike do? Perhaps we can find you another source for the same ability? Is it even necessary to use Elegant strike with a Longsword, Thinblade, or Courtblade? You might be able to apply it to Scimitars (I haven't got RotW, unfortunately :( )

Yep, Dex to damage.
Getting Dex to AC, hit (Weapon Finesse) and damage (Elegant strike) may make buying a 20 in dexterity worth it (+2 racial for elf). :D

Yes, you can use elegant strike with a scimitar (+longsword, rapier and elven swords), but the Prestige Class requires you to have weapon focus in longsword or EWP in one of the Elven swords; which is icky if you are then going to go and use two scimitars all the time instead.
If I could weapon finesse a longsword it would remove the ickyness :D and save a feat.

06-03-05, 06:46 PM With monkey grip you take a -2 to hit to consider the weapon you are weilding to be one size smaller (unless there was a recent errata, or something). This will make the longsword finesse-able.

06-03-05, 07:07 PM a longsword sized for a small creature like a halfling is a light weapon for a medium creature. although you take a -2 to hit because the weapon is incorrectly sized.

06-03-05, 08:37 PM if i understand it correctly, light weapons make the size category one smaller in terms of weight and such. so a light longsword is considdered small, so finessable, i believe.

Heh if you have some extra cash skip the CoCL levels and buy two Swords of Graceful Strikes (A&EG), (I can hear you think) But Liquid....that magical weapon is required to be a shortsword only. Well then buy two Wakizashi (which is considered a masterwork shortsword except it does slashing damage) and pay a spellcaster to enchant them with the above said effect.

06-04-05, 01:04 AM There is no way to Finesse a longsword, to my knowledge. The simple answer would be to go with Scimitars instead. Yes, this means you waste a Weapon Focus feat on the longsword or an Exotic Weapon Proficiency/Improved Weapon Familiarty feat to get into CoCL, but it's the only light/one-handed weapon that lets you reap the benefits of all the benefits of all your class abilities. In addition to the short sword, now that I think of it.

Of course, you could just ditch two-weapon fighting and Tempest altogether, and stick to the far more powerful Elven Courtblade.
