| Demonicazura01-25-06, 12:32 PM | I am making a wild elf fighter. I used the monkey grip feat and weapon focus (greatsword) with a MWK large great sword. he is level 2... i was wondering if anyone had some good ideas for feats or something... |
| Xeraph01-25-06, 12:53 PM | First of all ... Need more info dude! You give me something to work with, I give you teh win! And, dont take Monkey Grip. Take Power Attack (Players Handbook), then Leap Attack (Complete Adventurer) as soon as possible. |
| rilem01-25-06, 01:49 PM | Ditto. And stop taking fighter levels. |
| Grethor01-25-06, 01:57 PM | yep, stop taking fighter levels! first 2 are just fine, but after that, DONT DO IT. IF you have a high dexterity you should take combat reflexes, and all the other prerequisites of Karmic Strike, and then, the fabled Karmic Strike. Every time you get hit, they provoke an AoO |
| AviLazar01-25-06, 02:50 PM | "Sir...Please step away from the fighter levels, nice and slowly...there we go" :D |
| Demonicazura01-25-06, 04:04 PM | lol, why not take fighter levels? |
| rilem01-25-06, 04:11 PM | Rapidly diminishing returns on feat acquisition, which is the fighter's only resource. Most combat builds can get the feats they need with only 2 fighter levels, thus freeing up more levels for other neat stuff. A few melee builds (tactical-heavy ones like the Snow's Gatling Tripper or a fighter that wants Combat Brute/Shock Trooper right away) can call for 6 levels or even more of fighter. But those are the exceptions. |
| Xykon01-26-06, 11:20 PM | Fighter levels are ok, as long as you take them properly. 1. No odd levels. 2. If going for Fighter specific feats, i.e. Weapon Specialization, take the minimum indicated feats. 3. Fighters max out at lvl 12. Try not to go beyond it. |
| Xykon01-26-06, 11:24 PM | Also since you're a wild elf, which i think has favored class of ranger, and you've decided not to take ALL fighter classes, try to plan ahead as to which feats will not clash with your fighter feats. I mean, if you're going for ranger eventually, try not to pick feats like Endurance coz u get it for free at RNG 3. |
| Slyver01-26-06, 11:59 PM | Fighter levels are ok, as long as you take them properly. 1. No odd levels. Absolutely correct. 2. If going for Fighter specific feats, i.e. Weapon Specialization, take the minimum indicated feats. This sentence should read; 2. If going for Fighter specific feats, i.e. Weapon Specialization, don't. Don't do it, don't think about it, just don't. Not unless it is purely for flavor. From a min/max standpoint Weapon specialization sucks. 3. Fighters max out at lvl 12. Try not to go beyond it. This should read; 3. Fighters max out at lvl 4. Try not to go beyond it. As noted above, there are exceptions. They are rare and should not be attempted by the novice. 2 fighter levels is usually sufficient. Slyver |
