| Demonicazura09-30-06, 03:05 PM | I was just wondering, since i'm going to be playing in a gestalt campaign, if there were any fun combos you guys know. I have all the core stuff, expanded psionics and complete psionics, complete adventurer, complete warrior, complete arcane, tome of magic, tome of battle, and races of the wild. |
| Phoenix0009-30-06, 03:20 PM | Off the top of my head. Nasty Tank Fighter 4/Knight 16//Paladin 4/Crusader 16 The Archivist Chameleon Archivist 20//Chameleon 10 use something else for the remaining levels. Duskblade 13/Pyrokinesist +7// Sorcerer 5/Pyrokinesist 1/Sorcerer +14 (note you have to get the DM to count the fire lash as a melee weapon, it is a considered a ranged weapon since the whip was a ranged weapon in 3.0, it was changes as a melee weapon in 3.5 but firelash wasn't modified) Monk with Incarnum Monk with Druid Druid 20//Cleric 20 (With the use of divine metamagic, not that special if you don't use it.) Pick a nature god such as Obad Hai Druid 20//Cleric 6/Nature Warrior 4/Contemplative 10 (Gives you 20 Druid Casting, 18 Cleric Casting.) (With the use of divine metamagic, not that special if you don't use it.) A dervish//seeker of the song (Yes you can combine seeker music with dervish, since song of spelldeath doesn't require concentration) Psion 20//Wilder 5/Psion Incarnate 10/X 5. You can't be hurt with this build. Just go underground and use burrowing power to attack with your powers. You have plenty of PP, and you can add Elan Resilience Enhanced to treat 1pp as 4 hps. A Wizard/Master Transmogrifist//Duskblade. Arcane Channeling and Arcane Strike hurts alot more if you are a 12 headed hydra. A Rouge 20/Wizard 10/Magelord 10. That should be good enough for a start. |
| Slyver09-30-06, 03:22 PM | You probably won't get too many responses with so little information. The number of "cool" gestalt builds that can be made is probably infinite (given infinite time to create them). Why don't you start with what type of character you want to play. Then take a moment to try to put a build together, even if only conceptually. You also might want to post your stats. Slyver |
| Dave96509-30-06, 03:30 PM | I'm putting together a new character for my DM's epic level (22 currently) campaign that he recently changeged over to gestalt.....seriously thinking that a gnome shadowcraft mage/lurk would be a good combination. Working on it now. |
| obrysii09-30-06, 04:08 PM | Gold Dragon 20//Cleric 3/Walker in the Waste 10/Cleric 7 ...That's my current character. Everything meshes together quite nicely. Take Surrogate Spellcasting, and suddenly you have a very versatile character indeed. |
| Demonicazura09-30-06, 04:19 PM | I like to play lots of things, I was just wondering what you guys thought was fun. I was thinking of a psionic infiltrator type concept, but I don't know... I think I want to use ToB. |
| GaffeR09-30-06, 04:27 PM | I like to play lots of things, I was just wondering what you guys thought was fun. I was thinking of a psionic infiltrator type concept, but I don't know... I think I want to use ToB. Some sort of combo mixing Warblade//Wizard/JPM/Spellsword could be fun for a gish build. |
| Phoenix0009-30-06, 04:53 PM | Some sort of combo mixing Warblade//Wizard/JPM/Spellsword could be fun for a gish build. Wizard 6/Jade Phoenix Mage 10/X 4 (X being a full casting prc) // Warblade 1/Duskblade 5/Wizard 1/Duskblade 4/Wizard 1/Duskblade 4/Warblade 4 You end with an initator level of 17, Wizard Casting of 20, Duskblade Casting of 13, 20 Bab, Good Fort and Will each level and nice int synergy. Duskblade’s 13th lvl ability at lvl 16. Throw in Battle Caster and you can cast arcane spells in heavy plate. The only problem I see with this Gish Gestalt build is while you have very nice abilities you are kinda feat strapped. I want to fit in Swashbuckler 3 for int to damage but I don't see a way to do so without sacrificing caster levels, putting off Duskblade's ability, or saving it for the very end and thus sacrificing the great final manuevers. Also grab Arcane Strike, since the attack and damage bonus lasts for a round, and thus affects every attack with a full attack action unlike JPM arcane wrath ability. |
| Kyle_the_DM09-30-06, 08:16 PM | If you're playing in a light-hearted game there's always the ninja/swashbuckler build... On a more serious note Fighter/Wizard/Arcane Archer/Order of the Bow Initiate might be a nice one-trick pony. |
| Nifft09-30-06, 08:30 PM | Warblade 20 // Wizard 6 / Dragonslayer 1 / Spellsword 1 / Jade Phonenix Mage 10 / Mindbender 1 / Archmage 1 -- Gish XTREME!!!1! Dragon Shaman 20 // Sorcerer 6 / Dragonslayer 1 / Spellsword 1 / Mindbender 1 / Fatespinner 4 / Initiate of the Seven Veils 7 -- Pick spells which modify your breath weapon, like blinding breath. Ranger 20 // Wizard 5 / Incanatrix 10 / Archmage 5 -- "Elf" Psion 20 // Warblade 20 (or for the powergamer: Warblade 20 // Psion 10 / Anarchic Initiate 10) -- I am the master of TWO kinds of stuff you don't understand! Cheers, -- N |
| iconoplast09-30-06, 10:31 PM | I imagine it shouldn't be hard to figure out a Lv 20 build with Full Arcane casting, full initiator levels, plus full wildshape and a BAB of at least 17. You can take Mystic Theurge at level 4 and base future spellcasting progressions off that, too, so you can hit Level 9 spells in two classes. |
| Phoenix0009-30-06, 10:40 PM | No mystic theruge in gestalt |
| RLRapp09-30-06, 10:57 PM | Hexblade/Spellthief |
| jameswilliamogle09-30-06, 11:21 PM | Binder 13 / KoSS 5 / Chameleon 2 // Warlock 20 Kind of a "Possesed" character, makes pacts w/ weird things, has some demon blood in him. feats: 1 Able Learner H PBS 3 Precise Shot 6 Wild Talent 9 Flyby Attack 12 Psionic Shot 15 Psychic Reformation 18 Greater Psionic Shot Binds the Sudden Strike and Sneak Attack guys for +11d6 bonus damage when blasting (and using Retributive Invisibility), +2d6 for the Fell Power item, +4d6 psionic shot, 9d6 blast, for 26d6 damage every blast. Chameleon floating feat gives you most of the item creation feats. Flyby Attack gives a kind of Spring Attack option that is better in every way. Your Ref save will be low, but you should have decent Dex anyways, and can pick up Dark One's Own Luck to compensate. Since you become and Outsider at L5 KoSS, you can use the floating feat for Mortalbane, too, for another 2d6 damage against living things. But aside from that, both the Warlock and Binder are a blast, have a ton of flavor, and have great (hidden) synergy as well. |
| Rhonin the Big09-30-06, 11:22 PM | Rhonin's Big Gestalt Resource in my sig |
| DuctShuiTengu09-30-06, 11:39 PM | I'm sure other people can (and probably even have) done better, but... Monk 2/Ranger 3/Master of Many Forms 10/Warshaper 5//Druid 20 Full Druid spellcasting, Wild Shape like nobody's business, and Wisdom to AC. Fairly good saves and skills. Only a d8 hit die, and 3/4 BAB though. Bard 20//Warmage 20 (possibly throw in PrCs on one side or the other). Hardly optomized, but offers a nice range of charisma-based arcane spellcasting in light armor and a good selection of skills. Sucky hit-dice though. Some variant on Rogue//Fighter with PrCs could make for a good Two-Weapon fighter. Good Fort and Reflex Saves. Lots of bonus feats and Sneak Attack damage. Rediculous numbers of skill points, good Hit-dice and BAB to keep Melee from being as suicidal as it frequently is for Rogues and help make sure all those attacks actually hit. If you can spring for Large Size, anything with Warhulk 10 on one side and full-BAB on the other can add up to rediculous melee attacks. Highly recommend fitting in Exotic Weapons Master 1 for Uncanny Blow with your big 1-handed exotic weapon of choice. Wizard//Swashbuckler/Duelist gish for all sorts of fun bonuses from Int. Something along the lines of Hexblade 3/Rogue 2/Fighter 2/Blackguard 2/X - 11//Sorcerer/Sorcerer PrCs makes a nasty Charisma-based Gish. Full BAB for most of its levels, Mettle, Evasion, Charisma to Saves, Charisma again to saves vs spells on one side, and charisma-based spellcasting on the other. |
| X-Codes10-01-06, 12:02 AM | Fighter 20//Swordsage 20 with Stormguard Warrior and Power Attack. Diamond Nightmare Blade. One-Hit-Dead. Heck, throw in the Gloom Razor feat and you can One-Hit-Dead a lot of things. |
| Jyrnn10-02-06, 06:33 PM | I'd personally like to see a Divine mind/Dragon shaman, a combonation I have dubbed "Mr. Helpful." The bonuses granted by the Divine Mind's aura are morale and the Dragon Shaman's bonus are unnamed so they should stack. With the double aura feat from Dragon Magic you can get 5 auras running at level 20. Also Touch of Vitality has some nice synergy with the divine grace offered by the divine mind. |
| Phoenix0010-02-06, 06:40 PM | If you go the aura route, make sure to get two levels of marshal at the least. Its auras are circumstance bonuses. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030906b |

Marshal Auras are just plain better than Dragon Shaman auras. If you want healing-like abilities, then get the Marshal variant from the PHB II and use the Life mantle for your Divine Mind powers. This works especially well in Eberron where you can be a Divine Mind of the Soverign Host and pick up the Life, Magic, and Guardian mantles. It stinks, but the more I look at Dragon Shaman the less I like it. |
| JaronK10-02-06, 07:55 PM | Here's a few I like... note that all of them only really need one good stat. MAD is the enemy of Gestalt builds... if anyone suggests to you a build that requires two casting stats, they don't know what they're talking about. Artificer 20//Archivist 14/Mindbender 1/Shadowcraft Mage 5 Use your Artificer abilities to create devine scroll versions of any arcane spell you want, which allows you to cast as an Archivist any spell in existance. You only need intelligence, so no MAD. Now you can add in your SCM abilities for serious power... and of course you've got all the crafting of an Artificer, giving you all the gear you'd ever need. Druid 20//Cloistered Cleric 19/Monk1 You've got it all. You cast as a full druid and 19 Cleric, giving you incredible healing and a wide variety of other nice spells. With 6 skill points per level and the right domains, you can be a decent skill monkey. For close combat, you can Wildshape into a Legendary Ape, wield a Sheillelge Quarterstaff, devine persist Devine Power, and rock out. You've also got very respectable saves and d8 HD, so you can take a few hits in a pinch (and you can heal easily). Yehaw. This is pretty much the best Gestalt combo in existance. Rogue 13/Swashbuckler 3/Scarlet Corsair 3/Assassin 1//Beguiler 11/Mindbender 1/Shadowcraft Mage 5/Sea Witch 3 Pirate! With full beguiler casting, combined with SCM flexibility, you're an impressive arcane caster. With 8 skill points per level at most levels and 6 with the other levels, you're a great skill monkey (and the int synnergy is great). In close combat, you can feint as a swift action with 9d6 sneak attack, have 40% concealment when not in direct light, and get free weapon finesse, so you can handle yourself respectably. Plus, of course, you're a pirate. Fighter 20//Barbarian 2/Psionic Warrior 5/Warhulk 10/Exotic Weapon Master 3 For pure combat power, this one is great. Over your 20 levels, you get +20 Str, 21 bonus feats, and a little rage for good luck. With a spiked chain (take Exotic Flurry, Exotic Reach, and Exotic Trip), you can trip everything easily, then crush them, and you've got enough feats to easily be a full on charger as well. I recommend a dwarf with permanent enlarge person for this build. JaronK |
| Tytalus10-02-06, 10:55 PM | Rogue 13/Swashbuckler 3/Scarlet Corsair 3/Assassin 1//Beguiler 11/Mindbender 1/Shadowcraft Mage 5/Sea Witch 3 Can't have two PrCs at the same time in gestalt. |
| JaronK10-02-06, 11:37 PM | None of those builds were giving exact levels for when to take what. Those are mostly up to personal choice. In the build you quoted, it would actually be more like this: Beguiler 1//Rogue 1 Beguiler 2//Rogue 2 Beguiler 3//Swashbuckler 1 Beguiler 4//Swashbuckler 2 Beguiler 5//Swashbuckler 3 Beguiler 6//Rogue 3 Mindbender 1//Rogue 4 Beguiler 7//Rogue 5 Beguiler 8//Scarlet Corsair 1 Shadowcraft Mage 1//Rogue 6 SCM 2//Rogue 7 SCM 3//Rogue 8 SCM 4//Rogue 9 SCM 5//Rogue 10 Beguiler 9//Scarlet Corsair 2 Beguiler 10//Scarlet Corsair 3 Sea Witch 1//Rogue 11 Sea Witch 2//Rogue 12 Sea Witch 3//Rogue 13 Beguiler 11//Assassin 1 As you can see, it doesn't require taking two PrCs on any one level. Likewise, in the first build one should take SCM as soon as possible, not at the end, but it's easier to understand if I just show the total levels. JaronK |
| Pierson_Lowgal10-02-06, 11:40 PM | Prestige classes that are essentially class combinations-such as the arcane trickster, mystic theurge, and eldritch knight-should be prohibited if you’re using gestalt classes, because they unduly complicate the game balance of what’s already a high-powered variant. Combination-Classes include: Jade Phoenix Mage KoSS Spellsword |
| GDarius10-03-06, 12:01 AM | So, the parameters: 22 levels Core expanded psionics and complete psionics [shudder] complete adventurer complete warrior complete arcane tome of magic tome of battle races of the wild gestalt rules I would freaking LOVE to play in this campaign. My build would be as follows: Warblade 22//Wizard (or Wu-Jen) 18/ Master of the Unseen Hand 4 Work in Practiced Spellcaster, Extraordinary Concentration, Arcane Thesis: Telekinesis, Arcane Strike and a few metamagic feats (most notably Enlarge, Extend and Chain Spell) and you have a truly frightening all-purpose tank, with INT synergy coming out of every possible orifice. This same tank can also serve as the primary arcane spellcaster, as he has access to 9th level spells, and his 28 full attacks/round (which he admittedly has to make against different targets) only take him a swift action to execute. Hmm. I wonder what kind of havoc this guy could cause with Stormguard Warrior + Avalanche of Blades? |
| gorfnad the shiznit10-03-06, 01:52 AM | One of my favroites is: Rogue 3/ Swashbuckler 3/ Fighter 4/ Invisible Blade 5/ Master Thrower 5 // Shadowcaster 20 Daggers everywhere coming from nowhere Rogue 2 /Swashbuckler 3/ Assassin 9/ Telfammar Shadowlord 6 // Shadowcaster 20 Step 1. Jump out of shadows Step 2. Kill Step 3. Jump back into shadows Step 4. Wash, rinse, repeat Hexblade 3/ Binder 17 // Warlock 20 Uber creepy build Monk 20 // Ninja 20 Unarmed Strike damage and sudden strike = ouch Bard 10 /Sublime Chord 10 // Binder 20 Can pretty fill in any roll in the party twice over Gnome, Wizard5 / HarperMage2 / ShadowcraftMage5 / Shadowcrafter8 // Shadowcaster 20 (or Archivist 20 for a diffent flavor) Master of the Killing Shadows HumanParagon3/FallenPalladin1/Blackguard10/NarDemonbinder2/Spellsword1/EldritchKnight3 // Binder 20 The Demon Binder Champion |
| gorfnad the shiznit10-03-06, 09:25 AM | Now that I'm near my books: Rogue 3/ Swashbuckler 3/ Fighter 4/ Invisible Blade 5/ Master Thrower 5 // Wizard 5/ Daggerspell Mage 5/ Wizard 10 |

| gorfnad the shiznit10-03-06, 09:32 PM | Daggerspell Mage is banned in Gestalt. Dragonslayer was used earlier, it's another combo class. Can't use Spellsword Ah yes, forgot about that. Then hopefully these would be more correct changes. Rogue 3/ Swashbuckler 3/ Fighter 4/ Invisible Blade 5/ Master Thrower 5 // Wizard 3/ Human Paragon 3/ Shadow Adapt 4/ Wizard 10 And HumanParagon3/FallenPalladin1/Blackguard10/NarDemonbinder 6 // Binder 20 |
