Anyone know how to make a Cler/Ran work well? [Archive] - Wizards Community

One of my fellow PCs in the game we're currently playing wants to make her character a Cleric/Ranger. Mind you, not a cleric/fighter or a Druid/Ranger, she wants to make a Cleric/Ranger. I readily suggested to her that she select Fharlanghn as her patron deity, as a quarterstaff will work with her ranger abilities and fit her thematically. She's in favor of the idea, but otherwise, I don't know what would make an effective character build out of the character. Does anyone have any idea what prestige classes there are that will combine the two into a good build? I can't find any PRCs that will combine BAB, skill points, and caster level (mind you, this would probably be disbalancing anyway, heh). The character is lawful good, but she didn't seem impressed with the swawnmay, so I'm sort of at my wits end with her.

Here's what we've got so far:
Human
Fharlanghn worshipper
Cleric/Ranger
Melee(quarsterstaff)

Can anyone think of good feats or classes to combine the features of cleric and ranger effectively?

i would say cleric5/seeker of the misty isle
master of the yuirwood is another option, harder to qualify but without lost casterlevels.

the first 5 levels will be a hard time though. and a backdraw: the only way to get surviwal as a class-skill without losing a casterlevel or burning a feat is the travel domain. too bad it is a bonus at lvl 1 of somi...

i woudl recommend half-elf, human paragon1/cleric2/paragon2/sotm9
you lose a caster-level early on which is a bad thing. but you are closer to the ranger-feeling as you can take the elf-domain, maybe flanked by time (or war. or planning), get quite some skillpoints to distribute for any skills you like and cash in the extra feat you missed by being elf. the seeker loses another casterlevel but offers some nice abilities and, above all, 6 skillpoints per level.

as for your archery skills: the cleric archer is still superior to the ranger one so you should be good to go. divine metamagic (persistant) and a few nightsticks buff you beyond the abilities of mundane archers.

star elf + otherworldly + spell domain for a persistant draconic polymorph into a arrow demon would not be bad, either. you miss the skills early on and have to burn a feat or the domain synergy to get it working so it would be more geared towards mid- to highlevel start.

As Funny mentioned, Master of the Yiurwood (Unapproachable East) would be a good option, but it requires a race of Elf or Half-elf. Is the human race set in stone? Or is that just the direction the player was heading?

I'll kick Windwalker out, which lacks the deity you want but still goes with the concept, as well as Harper Paragon. These might be completely off base if you can't use FR material.

Check out the "skilled clerics" link in my sig. Might be something useful in there to you. Alot of the stuff in there has already been mentioned by others, though, and that post is also old (alot of the classes have been updated to 3.5 in other books, and Seeker of the Misty Isle wasn't out yet then).

in my opinion windwalker would be another quite perfect choice. at least Shaundukal is kind of a FR pendant to Fharlanghn.
it is a bit 3.0ish but one of the greatest PrCs ever, how could i miss my baby... (too focussed on 3.5 methinks)

I'll put in yet another vote for windwalker. I played a similar character for a while and it was a great character. You could easily just change the god the class follows and its a perfect fit.
