Anything to resize weapons and armor? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-08-05, 07:56 PM I have a 16th level human hexblade with the Practiced Spellcaster feat (CA) who is itching to polymorph into a war troll (MM3). My problem is I would love to keep using my great falchion and mithril breastplate. If I understand things correctly, all my other magic items will resize and remain functioning, but the armor will disappear, and the weapon will remain medium sized, imposing a -2 penalty to hit, and still doing only 2d6 damage. This is still a big step up in attack, damage, and AC; but it irks me and I haven't found any solution. Is there any magic property in a book out there that would help out?

11-08-05, 08:26 PM Resizing is a +1 weapon enhancement from CArc. As for armor I think "wilding" will do... though I think that's 3.0. Um... get bracers of AC, they're wonderous items and therefore resize automatically. So do rings, amulets, and the like.

11-08-05, 11:42 PM Oh. "Sizing" from the CV is +1. It's a standard action to resize, but beggar's can't be choosers. Thank you very much. Don't know how I missed that. As for armor, there is a "Wild" in the DMG and a "Beasthide" in the CV, but both specify wildshape as a requisite. Might be able to afford some low bracers of armor though that only function when the armor disappears.

11-09-05, 07:30 AM After emailing a bunch of official people, like Customer Service and others, they mentioned to me that the Wild enhancement on armor does in fact work with polymorphing and other shape changing effects (like for Bear Warrior). Again, that might not be the actual ruling but that's what official people were telling me. I know a Barbarian Bear Warrior in LG who uses Wild Mithral Full Plate, so it checks out at least in some circles.

Have enlarge person cast on you, your eq/armour/weapon becomes large, then polymorph into your war troll. Polymorph is based on your base size, so your now large armour/weapon should still fit you.

11-09-05, 08:39 AM My DM allows it ... it depends a bit on your view on what happens when a prerequisite for a spell changes halfway through the duration.

o o o, that might work for me. I'll have to run it by the dm but I'm bringing a rage mage into the game and was going to extensively use polymorph. great idea, thanks.

11-09-05, 01:04 PM In general, a change from one form that has a humanoid shape to another form that has a humanoid shape leaves all equipment in place and functioning. The subject's equipment changes to match the assumed form. It becomes the appropriate size for the assumed form and it fits the assumed form. The spellcaster can change minor details in your equipment, such as color, surface texture, and decoration.

Given that Skip is one of the main designers for D&D 3.x, it has some merit. Does it make the resizing enhancement pointless in most cases? Yes. Does it make polymorphing even more powerful? Yes. But, it's what he has clarified as his intentions for the rules in the PHB.

Of course, if you're playing in living greyhawk or have some houserules, then what Skip says is moot.

11-10-05, 06:32 PM This inquiry was in response to my understanding of a skip williams answer in a new Dragon magazine which kibboshes the armor and weapon resizing when polymorphing. Does anyone else know of this article? Anyone have a different opinion?
