| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue01-22-05, 04:18 PM | Alright, I'm looking to make a Human Fighter who uses reach weapon and makes the most of AoO, so I'm looking for all the different ways to do that. I saw a thread a couple days ago but I just looked through 12 pages and couldn't find it, I couldn't seem to find the Search feature either. |
| Majik01-22-05, 04:47 PM | Sorry, don't know about the link, but i have tips about the build: take the feats improved trip, Combat reflexes. Have a high Dex and use a reach weapon! That way you get a AoO before they rach you and can trip them i.e. they fall down and you get an attack nonetheless! If you find the post about AoO, please post it! Majik |
| Ravos2001-22-05, 05:02 PM | uh... find the githyanki issue of dragon. it has tons of Reach AoO feats... literaly your jaw will hit the floor. only bad thing is you have to be a gith to use them. but, hey. |
| El_Machinae01-22-05, 07:32 PM | 1 Barbarian 1- Wolf Lodge Berserker, Improved Trip 2 Fighter 1 - Combat Reflexes 3 Fighter 2 - Power Attack, Cleave 4+ ... gravy ... |
| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue01-22-05, 09:16 PM | Alright, so I'm looking for something a little more complex and I want to do more with my AoOs. Heres what I'm thinking. Human Fighter 1. Combat Expertise, Improved Trip, Combat Reflexes 2. Karmic Strike 3. Hold The Line 4+ ??? My idea is he'd be more of a tactical/finesse fighter then someone looking to actually deal damage. I remember hearing about a feat in the minitures handbook that went well with Karmic Strike and allowed a character using this type of build to avoid a full attack. EDIT: I guess I should mention that ANY WoTC book is good. |
| FlimFlam01-22-05, 09:44 PM | I believe EWP: Spiked Chain is almost a *must* for any AoO build. I would also recommend a 1 level dip into Sorcerer to get the Enlarge Person spell. Will give you an even greater reach. |
| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue01-22-05, 09:46 PM | well, I don't want to use a spiked chain. I'm using a glaive or some other variant. |
| Zendu01-23-05, 01:41 AM | unless you dont want to use it because it IS the best reach weapon, and know this, i really think you should look it over again. That said, you could always take that weaponstyle feat from complete warrior with the halbard that gives you a extra attack. |
| MikeN01-23-05, 01:45 AM | If it's still legal, that is. In Sword and Fist, and Aomplete Arms and Armor. |
| Lord Likk01-23-05, 03:51 AM | and a wu knight would be better in the long run. with that in mind, here's a build that should be playable at lvls one (or perhaps three) through twenty: half-ogre2 psywar8/ftr1/psychic weapon master5/war hulk4 feel free to change those levels around, but the pwm will require psywar8. in the end, you'll have expansion to become gargantuan, reach to add another 5' to your reach (both are lvl.2 powers), for a total of 45' with a spike chain or other reach weapon. you str should be able to reach well above 30, considering war hulk's +8. using combat reflexes, the pwm's combat reflexes, and prowess, you'll have 1+dex mod+wis mod aoo's per round, and you'll be able to spend 3 pp per to gain extras beyond that. add in either hustle or psionic lion's charge, and you shouldn't have to ever not make a full attack. improved trip always helps, and why not elusive target while you're at it? power attack and perhaps leap attack, along with that high str, should take care of damage. you also benefit from the potential for status affects and healing galore through psywar powers, as well as the psionic version of tenser's transformation (i think) to get full b/a. this character will have many, many more attacks per round than your average +16 b/a character, though (even a dual-wielder, if you take cleave and great cleave). here's a build that will probably pay off more in the long run, but may be harder to sit through at first: wu jen 6/ftr2/spellsword1/dragonslayer1/eldritch knight10 this'll net you 50' reach as a colossal creature wielding a reach weapon, via the 8th lvl wu jen spell 'giant size', as well as summon elemental monolith with finding the center (maintains concentration on one spell for you), should you care to use them. shapechange into a titan or storm giant before you cast giant size to end up with a ridiculous strength (low 70's for the titan) and the ability to wield an oversized weapon (5' of additional reach for a grand total of 60'). it requires minimal feats, leaving yours largely open for most of the ones selected above. 9th lvl wu jen spells are almost guaranteeably more useful in every way than 4th or 5th lvl psychic warrior powers. and now, just for kicks, a few more odd builds: treant12/war mind8 or treant12/war mind5/slayer3 or something along those lines i had a friend who did something like this in 3.0 psionics, wielding a crystal spiked chain. treant gets a lot for 12 la: quite a few plant hd that get fey skills, a huge str adjustment, and huge size, which means you're colossal with expansion. add the 2nd lvl power reach in, and you've got 55' reach. war mind is cool because it progresses faster than psywar, and eventually gets to hit two squares in one attack. one could even think about fitting war hulk into this build. half-ogre2/haf-illithid5 or 6 (depending on the source: mmII or underdark)/illithid body tamer several i have done this myself. you start off with 10' reach on your tentacles. that feat from ss adds 5', tentacle extensions add 5', and illithid body tamer adds another 5' (or maybe even 10', i can't remember). anyway, that's 25' minimum, and you have 4 of these things. just wield two tower shield with your actual arms, but get a speed enhancement on each of those tentacle extensions (by far the most expensive part). besides the classic trip-locking and cleave-reapeating, you grapple four guys at once, and drop three of them at any time to extract one's brain. take some of those ss grappling feats (multigrab and imp multigrab are musts) for even more fun; throw one into a wall and then throw the other three at him, for instance. |

| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue01-23-05, 10:32 AM | Well, I found the thread, the feats called Side Step. And Halberd doesn't have reach, not to mention that would require me to waste a feat on TWF which I'm not looking to do, the benifits don't really mesh well with what I'm thinking. Right now this is what its looking like: Note: In the campaigns I play the fighters skills per level are 4+int modifier rather then two and the skill list has been expanded. Human 1. Fighter- Combat Expertise, Improved Trip, Combat Reflexes 2. Fighter- Hold the Line 3. Fighter- Dodge 4. Fighter- Karmic Strike 5. Fighter- 6. Fighter- Mobility, Side Step, 7. Fighter- 8. Fighter- Weapon Focus (Ranseur or some other polearm) 9. Kensai- Iron Will, Signature Weapon 10. Kensai- Power Surge 11. Kensai- 12. Kensai- Elusive Target, Ki Projection 13. Kensai- Withstand 14. Kensai- 15. Kensai- *, Another Class Feature (I have Ki Projection Written down but that doesn't make sense) 16. Kensai- Instill 17. Kensai- 18. Kensai- Ki Warlord, * 19-20 |
| Joachim01-23-05, 10:36 AM | IMO, there is one feat that should be mentioned with any AOO build, and that is Stand Still. Its a feat from Psionics Handbook and its GENERAL, not psionic. The save DC is high, and its great because most brutes (the ones who are regularly going to go toe-to-toe with you) will have suck Reflex saves. Read it. You'll like it. |
| Tenken01-23-05, 11:34 AM | Look for Snow Savant's build called the Gatling Gun Tripper or something like that. It should be in the FAQs under Fighter builds. |
| Jarlaxle_The_Rogue01-23-05, 03:34 PM | Thats where I got the Side Step From. I'll check out that one in the EPH later. thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking for another class to go into after I'm done with the Kensai, Rage would work well for someone whos particularly tough to trip, but I'm planning on a more tactical fighter and possibly destroying my characters constitution score for fun. |
