| DivineDragoonKain06-26-06, 10:37 PM | 9th level Divine Casting in 10 levels, the ability to turn evil outsiders like a cleric turns undead, all coupled with mandatory Vow of Peace and Vow of Poverty (depending on your ruling) and the privelage of wearing protective rings to boot (also depending on your ruling with Vow of Poverty)... Is it just me, or does the Apostle completely trump Clerics whose purpose is to heal? Even if they don't use Vow of Poverty, they have a +8, +6, and +4 bonus to apply to their Wisdom, Charisma, and Con (in whichever order) for the purposes of spellcasting, turning, and VoPeace's weapon immunity... As I found out by asking in another thread, most DM's that allow the AoP rule that either Vow of Poverty isn't a prereq, or the Apostle can't use magic rings at all. Assuming the latter, wouldn't an Apostle be pretty much the ultimate healer? I'd like to see what you guys could come up with with an optimized AoP for healing/buffing purposes... *shudder* (And if possible, I'd like to see a Gestalt version, because that was what I was thinking about implementing into a Gestalt campaign I'm thinking about...) (Also, the AoP Censure Fiends thing mentions Censuring damage... shouldn't that break Vow of Peace or something?) |

| Tweedledope06-26-06, 11:06 PM | Its nothing compared to a Combat Medic. Spontaneous Heal? Yes please. That ol' chesnut has since been broken...and badly. The PHB II variant to spontaneously cast domain spells trumps this hands down. Choose Healing and, boom, there you have, spontaneous Heals. But, as for the OP. No, the AoP is not broken. It is probably the HARDEST character to roleplay. I have done so many times but, you must first get the consensus of your gaming group and the DM. Remember, if you are an AoP you will not let your friends kill something if there are other ways around it. If they do kill something, you manifest minuses to their attack modifiers. This will **** your barbarian/fighter off...believe me. In a solo adventure or a small, exalted group, AoP for tha win. In a larger group with more diverse characters, steer clear. It is SO hard to play these characters it isn't funny. However, once you have mastered the art of Peace, you have a very might character indeed. -=TD=- |
| DivineDragoonKain06-26-06, 11:25 PM | Doesn't the Vow of Nonviolence modifier penalty apply only if the slain foe is helpless? Doesn't sound too bad to me... and also, it only applies to humanoids and monstrous humanoids, however much that matters. Also, I was thinking about running an evil campaign soon... I was thinking about having an AoP for the opposing Exalted party, mainly for healing and such. Sure, it's not as good as spontaneous healing, but an AoP can convert prepared spells into Cure spells if need be anyway. Besides, the campaign would be Gestalt, allowing for some very, very ****ed up Divine Casting going on... Speaking of which, I'm going to change my request for an optimized AoP to Gestalt, but if someone posts a normal one, that's ok too. |
