Hi,
I'm working on a character, but I don't really know what to do with him.

Basically it's an Illuskan from Waterdeep (Sword Coast).

Short char. history:

Comes from a monastery that lies in or near Waterdeep. He somehow got involved in streetfighting and found that his martial arts he learned where of good use. The streetfighting made him some new friends (or "friends".) This started to reflect more and more on his personality, and the words of one of his new friends, a religious man, started to affect him too. He gradually became less attentive at his lessons, a little more rebelling.
Eventually his superiors found out that he had been involved in activitys that didn't fit the monastarys view, and so he was kicked out/left

Now, this needs some work, but basically what I want is an ex monk who's now a religous man of Tempus(or another god of fighting, maybe. Haven't checked up the gods that much) and has left his monastery.
I want him to try to preach about his god to other people. (ranks in knowledge religion, class skill for the monk, but learned from the religous streetfighter guy)

He's a level 2 monk when the game starts.
I want him to be more of a Brawler than a Kung fu monk, and I'll concentrate on Con, Str, wis dex or int, cha. In that order.

1 monk [Feat] [Jotunbrud], [Impr. Grapple]
2 monk [Deflect Arrows] (AL change to NG)
3 Fighter ? [Expertise?][Impr. Disarm?]
4 Fighter ? [Power attack?]

this is going to be a play by post FR campaign and, AFAIK, anything "realistic" goes. But since it'll be play by post, I imagine it's gonna take some time to play an adventure so leveling won't be so fast. Therefore I'm not planing ahead too far. You never know when these things stop.

Iäm not looking for 20 level builds here, more like solid builds up to 6-8 level, with a possibility to be good at later stages.

any tips?

If you're wanting a brawler then maybe consider Combat Reflexes rather than Deflect Arrows?

There's a cuning thing that you can do with monk, which is to wield a reach weapon in your hands and attack normally with kicks. That means you can be a trip monkey (like a spiked chain tripper, with a 10' threatened area) and thus make good use of your trip attacks. Fighter at 3 not only gives you proficiency in the Guisarme (reach tripping weapon) but can give you Combat Expertise/Improved Trip for much tripping fun.

Something to note is that there are no penalties for grappleing whilst holding weapons, so you don't even need to drop your guisarme.

As well, low-level monks don't lose anything by eschewing armor (if their wisdom isn't very high), so don't be concerned about using armor.

If you're look for a more 'dirty' feel, you could also consider the Invisible Blade. It works well off of a fighter/monk base.

PrC for a Streetfighter? Streetfighter, from Complete Adventurer(I think) seems like it'd fit. :D

One of the nice abilities of the Shou Disciple PrC is letting you flurry in light armor (and with weapons, later). I'd recommend it for your character, but you won't be able to take the first level of it until 6th.

Edit: Oh yeah, it's in the Unapproachable East supplement to Forgotten Realms.

Yeah, I was thinking about combat reflexes, but I don't know how much dex I will ghave. We're supposed to roll the abilities at this place called dndonline.com but the site isn't working. For me, at least.

tripmonkey, yeah. I don't know... I thought about that, but the last character I played was a dwarf tripper with spiked chain, but I'll consider it. I felt more like sundering or disarming.

Thank you.

Yeah, I looked at it. Didn't feel good.
on the other hand,I think I'm a little too stuck by thinking about unarmed strikes and monk levels, though I've limited myself to 2.

Have to get away from that. It's supposed to be more of a brawler/fighter than monkish fighting.

I'll look it up again.

Something I don't like, though, is characters with a small amount of skillpoints. So I'm loath to take more than 2 fighter levels.

IIRC you need sneakattack 2d6, but I'll check on it.
knives, however, feel to "light".

Shou Disciple, UE, ok, got it. If, somehow, it would be possible around that level, I'll think about it.
