It just hit me.

One of the Apprentice feats from the DMG2, Spellcasting Apprentice, makes UMD a class skill for the character--regardless of class.

Picture a party full of characters who take this feat, backed by an Artificer (perhaps with a level of Marshal for Motivate Charisma.)

Picture the Artificer using Metamagic Item to add Persistent to key buff wands, and then passing them around to everybody in the party.

An entire party with Persistent Wraithstrike. Persistent Divine Power for all the non-fighter-types. Perhaps Persistent Swift Haste for everyone.

I thought Artificers didn't need a party?

This basically makes everyone a gestalt wizard/cleric/[their real class] for buffing purposes. It may not be the most cost-efficient method though.

I have to agree with Caelic on that.

The major benefit a Cleric has over a Fighter is the self-buffing. Play a charismatic Fighter, and you get all the self-buffs. You have a full wand all the time. Have the Bard grab the Marshal level for less Artificer-slowing, and you are really on your way to brokenness.

Even wtihout the Artificer, how many skills have the potency of UMD? It's just an already amazing ability that gets better.
