| WizO_Autumn04-01-05, 06:06 PM | If you've got any questions or comments, post them here. |
| PhoenixInferno04-01-05, 06:18 PM | LOL, here I thought April was going to be like pranksters or something for April Fool's Day. This is funny and I wonder how many people are actually going to show up for this one. Is this a solo exercise or can we work in teams? Every good chef has a good sous-chef. |
| WizO_Autumn04-01-05, 06:27 PM | Oo, good point- I didn't think of that.... I'd say why not. Someone could be your prep cook if you want, but you don't have to. Just don't go wild and have a prep cook and sous chef and pastry chef... you know. |
| webgear6804-01-05, 07:11 PM | sorry for double post didn't see the Question post would a mage hand be able to turn a spit or would it have to be a bigby's hand |
| WizO_Autumn04-01-05, 07:17 PM | Sure, you can use Mage Hand, but you have to explain how you learned how to cast the spell- any incantrix or components you need. |
| PhaedrusXY04-01-05, 07:28 PM | Oo, good point- I didn't think of that.... I'd say why not. Someone could be your prep cook if you want, but you don't have to. Just don't go wild and have a prep cook and sous chef and pastry chef... you know.Hmm... I forsee an army of Unseen Servants, all busily mixing things in bowls, turning spits, dicing onions, etc. |
| WizO_Autumn04-01-05, 07:31 PM | Again- you tell me exactly how you summoned those unseen servants and it's allowed. I could REALLY use the extra help with my laundry. If someone figures this puppy out, I'm all ears. |
| webgear6804-01-05, 07:38 PM | Optimize the best meal you can- fictional or real ingredients. copied from contest so i assume a fictional dish could be created by a wizard in dnd thus all the spell questions if i am wrong you might want to clarify that somewhere a wizard cheif of a tavern or some similar idea |
| Neb Rybel04-01-05, 07:42 PM | What is going on now? Is this like "create the most edible thing to placate the Big Bad?" |
| Jeremymc04-01-05, 09:04 PM | A Prank eh? DAMN! I was 15 minutes into building my "Creme"-zied "Brule"-zerker before I realized it was all a cruel hoax!! |

The cook is you- pretend you had any ingredients. I think- haven't completely decided. A Prank eh? DAMN! I was 15 minutes into building my "Creme"-zied "Brule"-zerker before I realized it was all a cruel hoax!! Says who?! |
| kegdrainer04-02-05, 10:35 AM | Do we want to place a limit on some ingredients? I forsee many dishes with Dragon or "Long pig" in them. |
| Kingside_Bishop04-02-05, 11:14 AM | So, now that it's April 2nd, I can ask -- is this an April Fool's Joke, Autumn? I like the contest, I just thought I'd ask before embarassing myself. |
| WizO_Autumn04-02-05, 03:36 PM | It was meant as a joke, but honestly, it could be fun. I say we try it. We could have a normal contest as well if you want. Or expand it to include creating the chef so it is totally fantasy. Actually make the iron chef and have a cook off, or something- Oo! What if the contest is to make an iron chef and the top 3 or 5 or some number we determine poll winners go to the next round- I announce the secret ingredient so those people have say 1 day actually create 3-6 dishes featuring that ingredient? Then we could do a second poll where we're all the judges? Thoughts? |
| kegdrainer04-02-05, 04:06 PM | Creating a Iron Chef character and the recipes might be fun :D . Any Race, Class, and books (other than UA) might be the way to go. I do not see a CR 20 cook so the level might be limited. Maybe 10th level (49,000 gp of items). Designing the Kitchen/Dining Hall from Stronghold Builders might be worth a few points. Set a 100,000 gp limit to design the kitchen/staff of the eating establishment, serving at least 100 at a time. (That might be a bit much.) Just a few random thoughts. |
| webgear6804-02-05, 06:33 PM | i like that head cook 10th lvl and feeding a group instead of one for what ever difference it makes in saying we ae going to feed a 100 as opposed to 1 |
| Kingside_Bishop04-02-05, 08:01 PM | That's what I figured... it could be a cool contest, though! I mean, optimizing a chef? Sounds like good fun to me. |
| kegdrainer04-02-05, 11:32 PM | I wonder how many cooks graduated from the "Steven Segal School of Cooking"? :D |
| TerrickTerran04-03-05, 09:50 PM | Well I can say for the frist time, this is one optimization I won't even consider entering. Not my thing at all. However, I'm looking forward to seeing some of the entries. (Heck can't do worse than love, can it?) |
| alaron04-04-05, 03:24 PM | I think it will be much better than febuarys, but I have some questions I need answerd. ( Iguess they are more of clarifications) 1st 10th level character optimized for cooking 2nd Is money to be spent on ingredients and cooking materials and not on adventuring gear, or should the meals be prepared as if you are in an adventuring party and thusly have some odd items at your disposal? 3rd Craft, Profession, or both? 4th Can we get a custom avatar if we make it to the finals, and if we win can we get a title like "Brass cook of the Boards" or something to that effect? 5th I will have some more questions Good luck to everyone who enters, and may the best "poster" win. |
| SuperThread04-04-05, 11:08 PM | Eh. I'm fine with having characters purely for RP, but if we fully stat them out, I feel that it cheapens the value of the meals. After all, who cares how delicious A's meal sounds when B has a much higher skill check in Profession: Cooking? |
| WizO_Autumn04-04-05, 11:22 PM | Ok- let's figure out the real rules. I'd like to get it up by Friday to give everyone enough time to do this out. 10th level sounds good. I sort of like my idea of making Iron Chefs and then having the 3 finalists have a cook off and do the actual cooking. What does everyone think? This would involve making the actual cooks. They'd have to have more then Craft cook though. They'd need some sort of "nitch"- Like Iron Chef: Sharn or something, and need to exlemplify that Eberron region. They could also be expected to get the ingredients themselves- so if it is a monster, they'd have to "gather" it themselves. We could have it be a 10th level Iron Chef as well as making a kitchen. Then we'd vote and the top 3 would be given the secret ingredient to actually win. The top 3 finalists would get a custom title. Thoughts? We'd have to set the money limit. |
| SuperThread04-05-05, 12:36 AM | Wait... so... Only three characters would actually be making a meal? |
| Kingside_Bishop04-05-05, 11:20 AM | Sounds good to me! |
| alaron04-05-05, 12:37 PM | Clarify please. 1. Make acharacter. 2. Make a kitchen for this character. 3. Vote. 4. If you are selected, make some foods to be voted upon. Am I correct? Is there be a limit to the amount to be spent on the kitchen, or are we free to spend as much of that 10th level gold as we want on the kitchen? Idea: The amount should be set for both the ingredients, and kitchen, so a person could have an amazing kitchen but suprisingly little to cook, or some one could have a barebones kitchen, with amazing foods to be used. |
| kegdrainer04-05-05, 01:07 PM | For the kitchen, I was thinking of the cooks establishment. Be it a Tavern, Restaurant or Inn. On Iron Chef, the first few minutes of the show they talk about the place the challenger works (or owns). (Cut to the owner sitting in the box watching over the contest.) 100,000 gp (+/-?) to design the establishment they work at, was a way to include the Stronghold Builders book in the contest. |
| alaron04-05-05, 06:12 PM | Three titles given to the finalists, and custom avatar to the winner? or only the title? not everyone owns the strong hold builders guide. I am one of them. The initial contest is for the optimized chef and the second one is fo rthe foods they can create. Am I right? |
| WizO_Autumn04-05-05, 09:26 PM | That's the idea on the table but it's up for discussion. |
| Kingside_Bishop04-05-05, 10:23 PM | I think this is what's going on: On the voting day, everyone votes for the best chef. The top three get an "Iron Chef" title, and go to the finals, where they prepare a meal with surprise ingredients provided by Autumn. Then, the meals are voted on. Whoever wins this, wins the Custom Avatar, and, say, a "Champion Iron Chef" title. |

Whoever wins this, wins the Custom Avatar, and, say, a "Champion Iron Chef" title. That's the idea, but again, it's up to discussion. One idea is that in addition to making the chef, entries make their kitchen as well. If so, we'd need to set a limit of $- 100,000 has been suggested. Any other ideas? |
| alaron04-06-05, 12:54 PM | I think that the character should have the option to make their own kitchen, but the kitchens should be voted upon also to determine what will be used by the chefs in the cook off. This could even lead to a title for the person who designs the best kitchen. This looks more like three contests to me, and I like that. |
| WizO_Autumn04-06-05, 11:11 PM | Hmmm... I like that idea... how about people can make either (or both) a chef and a kitchen. Top 3 chefs have a cook off in the winning kitchen which will become Kitchen Stadium? |
| Kingside_Bishop04-07-05, 02:21 PM | That sounds like fun. |
| Fieari04-17-05, 05:42 PM | I'm curious as to why you picked a limit of 100,000gp for the stadium... there are some gadgets I'd -love- to include for the perfect stadium that alone cost almost double that! Well, gadget, singular, anyway. Ah well, I'll keep working with this thingy... |
| WizO_Autumn04-17-05, 11:48 PM | It's what was suggested. I'm sure you can find some fun gagets within that limit as well :) |
| TheDarkOne Mk204-24-05, 01:54 AM | Im just curious as to why no one has posted their chef yet? Cos wasn't the cut off date the 24th? Which would be today. |
| TerrickTerran04-24-05, 12:06 PM | Probably because DND and cooking don't really mesh too well.:P I just found the theme a bit boring myself. Pranksterism would have been much better in my opinion. |
| ILL34GL304-24-05, 04:24 PM | Get rid of the reserved system. It's kind of bothersome to scroll through a bunch of nothing but huge superdorky sigs just to see 3 entries. |
| Vorlir04-24-05, 07:53 PM | aye, the reserved tradition is lost on me as anyone who wants to vote is going to have to scroll through the whole thread anyway. |
| TerrickTerran04-25-05, 10:11 PM | think reservations might need to get the heave-ho. Is there going to be a vote? Seems two of the people didn't notice the builds were only supposed to be to 10. |
| kegdrainer04-26-05, 08:05 AM | All three of the entries are to level 10. The first # shows the level, the rest are the levels in that class. As there are only three entries and one for the kitchen :( , I guess we can skip the voting and go right to the cooking step. I also agree on removing the reserved posts. Leave the 4 days or so for posting to allow the people to upload in stages and allow for any computer problems. Just my 2 cp. |
