| shakespeare_10101-13-04, 11:20 AM | Hi, I need to come up with a 7th level human corsair based on the below criteria from the d20 new arabian adventures... Base Attack Bonus: As Fighter Saving Throws: As Fighter Alignment: Any Hit Die: d10 Skills: Class skills are as follows: Climb (Str), Profession (Sailor) (Int), Intuit Direction (Wis), Jump (Str), Use Rope (Dex), Swim (Str), Knowledge (Sea) (Int), Listen (Wis), Spot (Wis), Bluff (Cha), Appraise (Int), Disguise (Cha), Balance (Dex), Tumble (Dex), Escape Artist (Dex), Search (Wis), Gather Information (Cha) and Forgery (Dex). Skill Point at 1st Level (4 + Int modifier) ×4 Skill Points after 1st: 4 + Int modifier. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Corsair’s are Proficient in all simple and martial weapons and light armor. Armor check penalties apply for all armor heavier than leather. Swim checks suffer a -1 penalty for every 5 pounds of armor and equipment. For every AC a character has above +3 due to armor/shields, the character suffers a -1 penalty to attack rolls, skill checks and ability checks. Two-Weapon Fighting: A Corsair wearing light or no armor can fight as if they had the feats Two-Weapon Combat and Ambidexterity. This only works with two weapons, the Corsair invokes all normal penalties if using a double weapon. A Corsair who has an attack bonus of +9 or better may take Improved Two-Weapon Fighting without the pre-requisites, as long as he only wears light or no armor. Bonus Feat: The Corsair gains bonus feats as a fighter. ___________________ He needs to be human and 7th level. I have 85 total points to spend on stats...and was trying to go for a crit machine with good class skills. We have a house rule that the improved crit feat will still stack with a keen weapon..so was thinking scimitar... This class cannot use weapon specialization. Character can have 8 feats if I figured it out right.... All input welcome! Thanks in advance! :D |

You get dual wielding feats for free and thus you need to find ways to improve that damage. Can you take rogue levels? Rogue3/corsair4 has already good skills and 2d6 sneak attack damage. High crits do you no good unless you also have high base damage. The kukris have only d4 base damage and even as crits that means only extra 2,5 points of damage. You need some boosts to that. High STR is a good way to boost the crit damage, as are some weapon enchantments. Take this into account when designing the character. Sisyfos |

| shakespeare_10101-13-04, 11:59 PM | Thanks guys! Wanted to stick with corsair to get all the fighter feats, although the dervish does sound intriguing...Don't have the complete fighter source book though. With 8 feats to choose from was thinking of the following... Expertise Chink in armor dodge mobility spring attack whirlwind attack power attack cleave and STR - 18 DEX -18 INT - 14 CON-14 WIS -10 CHA -10 |
| Sisyfos01-14-04, 12:16 PM | "Expertise Chink in armor dodge mobility spring attack whirlwind attack power attack cleave" Hmm... these are not good feats for a dual wielder. While you are spring attacking and dual wielding you do not get your off hand attacks. The same applies to whirlwind attack. (Do you use 3.0 or 3.5 rules?) You should concentrate on getting good at one thing. If you want to use those dual wielding feats you need to get some source of extra damage to those attacks and preferably use light weapons for both hands or medium and light. Scimitar and dagger could be a combo for you. Oh, I get it: you like scimitars... take a scimitar and a spiked shield. Now you get shield bonus to AC which helps a lot and you can use the weapon you like. Does that +3 to AC limit mean plusses before or after enchantments. If its before enchantments then it is not a problem. If it is after enchantments then this strategy does not work. Do not go corsair all the way, drop in something which compliments your two weapon attack style. Rogue would be the easiest way to accomplish this. 1 Rogue 2 Corsair 3 Cor 4 Cor 5 Cor 6 Rog 7 Rog Get feats like: Improved critical - scimitar Improved shield bash Power attack Knockdown Expertise (if you like the feat) These feats are for a tripping build. You could easily change the focus of the build. Then just do not take power attack and knockdown and take something else instead. Use tumble to avoid attacks of opportunity while moving in threatened areas etc. This is not an ultrapowerful build. He will have pretty low AC with that corsair limitatation and with the TWF focus. I do not know that arabian adventures books, so I do not know if you can take some spellcasting classes or monk levels to offset this. Monk would fit your character concept pretty nicely in my view and the AC would also be improved through WIS to AC. Also monks limitations match corsairs limitations pretty well. Flurry might also work with daggers (?), so you woud get still even more attacks. Oh well... the most solid piece of advice I can give is to concentrate in one thing. If you want to be a TWF fighter then concentrate on that. If you want to use two handed weapons you lose the corsair TWF bonuses but can fight more safely with your low AC and can use feats like spring attack pretty well. SIsyfos |
| shakespeare_10101-14-04, 12:46 PM | hmm..good point on the spring attack limitation...Was thinking of scimitar and short sword or dagger..Will have a high tumble as well..the +3 AC limit is before enhancements With a low AC though..was thinking the spring attack might keep him alive longer. Will also have a high use rope skill for that swing across the deck..prior to getting knocked out of the sky probably :) We will use 3.5 rules...but allowing stacking for keen and improved crit as a house rule.. Can't get improved crit since the BAB is only +7 and needs to be +8 for Improved crit Will have to check out the spiked shield to see if corsair can use it..Is it considered light? Would help out a lot if it was! |
| Sisyfos01-14-04, 02:25 PM | Yes, I think all the shields are considered light in 3.5 if used as offhand weapons. You do not need a large shield anyhow with that +3 limitation. Your AC will consist of: 10+4(dex)+2(dex enchantment)+1(shield)+5(shield enchantment)+2(leather armor)+5(armor enchantment)+5(deflection)+5(natural armor)=39 Of course you will not reach this immediately as some of those enchantments are very expencive, but its just about what you can reach with this kind of character. If bracers of armor are allowed then you can reach somewhat higher because the bracers can give as much as 8 to AC. With access to alter self your AC could be boosted pretty much. Especially if the outsider forms could be opened for you. Even a simple lizardman form gives +6 to natural armor, which stacks with your other armor bonuses. In the beginning your AC will be lowish with: 10+4(dex)+1(shield)+2(armor)=17 You can also probably afford atleast +2 armor and shield, which boosts you to 21. Then you can perhaps afford a +4 to dex item, which takes you to 23. Some simple spells (protection from evil for example) give you +2 deflection bonus. That is 25. Natural armor is expencive as items, but you could reach it through alter self or other spells like barkskin. Take use magic device as a skill and you can perhaps get items which grant you these spells. Thats extra +4-+6 which gets to around AC 30. That would be good enough for level 7 I think. Sisyfos |
