OK, I have been a longtime lurker under a different ID tha went inactive on me. *mutter*

Anyway I have recently entered into an Epic Campaign and would like to work on putting together an optimized build for a whisper gnome (ECL 0) Arcane Trickster. Stats are a 46 point buy by standards in DM guide. There are a few additional items of note as laid out by the DM.

Re: Character Creation/General Discussion Group 6 [quote]

Here the rules, sorry for the delay:

Some rules and guidelines:

- Level 25

- all D&D sources allowed. I own most of the official books, so please ask and post any 3rd party stuff you want to use

- Starting gold 2.100.000 GP

- 46 point buy system

- All alignments

- 2 extra skill points per level

- bonus feats at level 4, 8, 10, 14, 16 and 20

- bonus epic feat at level 22, 23 and 25

- HP are claculated by using the average die roll

- 12.000 XP for item creation or permanent spells

- there are 2 new feats for spellcasters who wants to use the ISC way of epic spellcasting. Will post them as soon as there is any interest.

As you can see this gives me several more feats to play with as these bonus feats above are all in addition to the stabdard complement. Stat block I was looking at was as follows:

STR 8
CON 14
DEX 17
INT 17
WIS 12
CHA 16

After Whisper gnome modifiers, and level increases, and reading tomes +5 for int and dex as well as +4 for con, stat block changes as shown.

STR 6
CON 20
DEX 24
INT 28
WIS 12
CHA 14

So this is the stat block I am planning.

The build right now is open to tweaking of course, but I have visualized a very sneaky caster who is hard to find and hit.

Rogue4/Wizard5/ArcaneTrickster10/Archmage4/Arcane Trickster1

This yields some very nice Archmage abilities which should allow him to be both a second tier caster as well as a very effective roguish sort. We have a bard/sublime chord/cosmic descryer, and we think together we can effectively fill both primary caster and skill monkey niches very nicely.

There is two new feats he has created that I am looking very long and hard at as well for possible epic feat taking:

Questions for Emirikol first, What is the ISC way of Epic Spellcasting? Are classes like Sha'ir or other unusual ones allowed? Psionics?

It's a much simpler way to handle things without needing to waste much time to decide what spells you learn how metamagicked. Here is a quote from UK's (the abbreviation of the nick of the IH creator ^^) website about it:

"Automatic Metamagic Capacity and Metamagic Freedom are important because they give a tantalising glimpse of the new magic system within the Grimoire section of the Immortals Handbook.
While I had hoped to introduce these at the proper time, I found statting some of the monsters within the Bestiary next to impossible using the current method of Improved Spell Capacity feats which just led to far too much complexity for much too little pay off.
The benefits of this system are simplicity, brevity and they preserve the worth of 0th-9th-level spells regardless of how high powered your campaign ascends.

Automatic Metamagic Capacity [Epic]
You can cast spells that exceed the normal limits of spellcasting.
Prerequisties: Ability to cast spells at the normal maximum spell level in at least one spellcasting class, four metamagic feats.
Benefit: When you select this feat you gain +1 free spell level of metamagic which you can apply to any spell you can cast.

eg. A 26th-level Wizard with x3 Automatic Metamagic Capacity feats could cast all their spells as if they were maximised, without increasing the level of the spell slots required.

It also stacks with existing metamagic deployment.

eg. A 26th-level Wizard with x3 Automatic Metamagic Capacity feats could maximise an empowered delayed blast fireball (9th-level spell slot).

Special: This feat stacks, each time it is taken you gain an additional +1 free spell level of metamagic.

This feat is suggested as the replacement for the following list of existing epic feats:
• Automatic Quicken Spell
• Automatic Silent Spell
• Automatic Still Spell
• Improved Spell Capacity
The various automatic quicken/silent/still spell feats are unbalanced. Improved Spell Capacity becomes more pedantic the higher in power you become, while in addition progressively alienating more and more lower level spells.

eg. A 30th-level wizard with Automatic Quicken Spell (x2) and Improved Spell Capacity (x3) should have them replaced by Automatic Metamagic Capacity (x5).

Metamagic Freedom [Epic]
You can stack the same metamagic feat multiple times.
Prerequisties: Four metamagic feats, Spellcraft 24 ranks.
Benefit: You can apply the same metamagic feat any number of times to the same spell, provided you have enough spell slots.

eg. With this feat you could use a 9th-level spell slot to triple empower a fireball spell (for +150% damage).

Normal: Without this feat you can only apply the same metamagic feat once to a single spell.

In the wake of this feat the following feats become redundant:
• Improved Heighten Spell
• Intensify Spell
• Multispell
Improved Heighten Spell should be unnecessary if you already have Heighten Spell. Intensify Spell is simply a combination of two applications of empower spell and one application of maximise spell. Multispell is simply two (or more) applications of quicken spell.
The first of the above feats should be replaced with Metamagic Freedom and any others by Automatic Metamagic Capacity.

eg. A 30th-level Wizard has Improved Heighten Spell, Intensify Spell and Multispell. These should be replaced by Metamagic Freedom and Automatic Metamagic Capacity (x2).

It is also suggested that the following epic feat be removed altogether:
• Improved Metamagic.

As you can see, thiese feats have some interesting potential as far as instant quicken and other flexibility.

So feats are rather open aside from the requirements for prestife classes and such.

Some items I have planned on taking.

Cowl of Warding (Magic of Faerun)
Winged Mask (MoF)
Mantle of Epic Spell resistance
Ring of Universal Elemental Resistance, Major
+4 Twilight, Soulfire, Nimbleness Mithral Shirt
+4 Twilight, Heavy Fortification Darkwood Shield
(shirt would also have Greater slick, shadow, and silent moves, as well as being glmaered, shield would just be glamered)

+1 Longsword, with spellblade three times on it against MDJ, Dispel and Greater dispel

This allows the character a constant mind blank, and freedom of movement spell, renders him immune to death and energy draining effects, as well as giving him full spellcasting while in the armor with the twilight bonus, not too mention being incredibly difficult to debuff as he will be immune to most of the key antibuff spells in MDJ, Dispel and greater dispel. The ring gives him fairly good resistance to elemental damage. My worries about vulnberabilities are a few. One is his AC will still be mediocre, but I am thinking an item with starmantle may be helpful on this score. His too hit will of course be low, but I think that this can be helped by a wand of quickened truestrike, as well as possibly and item that can cast righteous might multiple times per day. I also am worried about transmutation and disintegration and how best to protect against it.

So I hope this is enough info to give you a solid idea of where I am going with the build. I will now stand forth and bear the slings and arrows of a first time user of the forum. I appreciate any help the vets might give to me.
