| Timespike10-15-06, 11:42 PM | Okay, now HERE'S a reason to play a sorcerer. Unless I'm missing something, according to the RAW, of the arcane fusion and greater arcane fusion spells on page 96 of complete mage you can pop off ANY two spells you know of the appropriate levels, at once, as a standard action. Summon Monster IV and Summon Monster I in the same round? Yes, please. This seems like a great way to bypass casting times. Have something that has a LONG cast time you need NOW, arcane fuse it with some handy buff spell or just burn off a prestidigitation, and presto, you're in the clear. |
| LogicNinja10-16-06, 12:45 AM | Uh, what's Arcane Fusion from, and what exactly does it do? From the sounds of it, it's like Linked Power from the Complete Psionic, but for spells... that would be ridiculously good. |
| Timespike10-16-06, 12:47 AM | It's a spell from Complete Mage. Page 96. |
| LogicNinja10-16-06, 01:17 AM | Ah. So... you have to cast one of these spells to be able to cast two other spells. That's not as bad as I thought it was. Arcane Spellsurge is a lot worse. |
| Warmage_smurf210-16-06, 05:13 AM | I don't own Complete Mage (yet), but Arcane Fusion combined with Arcane Spellsurge would be rather terrifying... Cast two spells as a standard action (Turned into a swift one by Arcane Spellsurge), followed by a metmagicked 'full-round' spell (Turned into a standard action by Arcane Spellsurge)... |
| LogicNinja10-16-06, 05:36 AM | Okay, point. You'd go through spell slots like nobody's business, though. |
| Skadrian10-16-06, 06:01 AM | thats not bad, my 11th lvl sorc already has more spells than he can use |
| canadianguy10-16-06, 08:48 PM | What are the levels for the fusion spells and what is surge from and elvel for it as well. |
| Wire10-16-06, 08:59 PM | I don't own Complete Mage (yet), but Arcane Fusion combined with Arcane Spellsurge would be rather terrifying... Cast two spells as a standard action (Turned into a swift one by Arcane Spellsurge), followed by a metmagicked 'full-round' spell (Turned into a standard action by Arcane Spellsurge)... Imagine a Spellguard of Silverymoon Sorceror with the A.F., A.S., Summon Monster "X", Grease, & E.B.T. spells ... plus the Rapid Metamagic & Cloudy Conjuration feats. With Arcane Spellsurge running, the next round looks like this: Standard Action Cast = Summon Monster "X" (Big Freakin' Grappler right next to the enemy - note that SM is a full-round cast normally) Swift Action Cast = Arcane Fusion [Grease + EBT] (Cast both on top the enemy and your grappler, keeping your grappler unaffected by both due to SoS's Selective Spell ability) Not only does the enemy have to deal with a big grappler, Grease, and EBT ... he also has to deal with *3* Sickening clouds. Fun! |
| Richmud10-16-06, 10:47 PM | Okay, point. You'd go through spell slots like nobody's business, though. Arcane fusion doesn't use up the slots of the lower level spells it lets you cast, so its not quite as quick |
| Lafing Cat10-16-06, 11:27 PM | Are these spells sorc only? If not, how do they interact with wizards? |

You missed the part where it says: Neither spell chosen can have a casting time longer than 1 standard action. Still somewhat nice, if you've got a nice 4th level buff spell, and want to put up a shield/mage armor at the same time. |

| Wire10-17-06, 02:06 AM | arcane spellsurge would make summon spells a standard action wouldn't it?Yep. As per my post above. For builds that don't want to play around with adjusting existing Standard Action casting spells to Full Round spells - the Summon spells make for nice out-of-the-box fodder to apply to Arcane Spellsurge's unique mechanics. |
| wingedcoyote10-17-06, 02:45 AM | I don't have Complete Mage yet -- would any metamagics work on Arcane Fusion? 'Cause then if you're not into summoning, I'd think a sorcerer without Rapid Metamagic could do an Arcane Fusion without metamagic as a Swift and one with metamagic as a Standard in the same round, for a total of four spells. |
| ressurrector10-17-06, 04:39 AM | Arcane spellsurge is from where? |
| Richmud10-17-06, 05:30 AM | Are these spells sorc only? If not, how do they interact with wizards? Yes, sorc only spells |
| Wire10-17-06, 05:34 AM | Yes, sorc only spells Heh ... until a Wizard Recaster gets a hold of it. Then the rules for "spells a wizard knows" has to go through an ad hoc ajudication process through the DM. |
| PonTelon10-17-06, 06:03 AM | Arcane spellsurge is from where? Dragon Magic. I beleive the fusion spells are in Complete Mage. |
| Timespike10-20-06, 12:39 AM | You missed the part <snip> How?! I must have read that entry three or four times! Well, sorry about that. Still a very nice pair of spells, though. |
| 2y1y1z210-20-06, 01:09 AM | I'm particularly fond of unleashing a Magic Missile paired with a Chain Missile on some unsuspecting fool. 15d4+15 guaranteed damage to one foe, up to 10 other foes hit for 1d4+1, as a swift action (when paired with Arcane Spellsurge) and then you run up an kick them in the face, just for the hell of it. ^_^ |
