I could just make a run for it: 6: Wizard, <feat>, Knowledge Arcana = 8, BAB = 4 7: Arcane Hierophant , but that'd cost me Wild Shape and another Druid CL. And I want to spend as little druid as possible. I could ditch the summoning stuff, and take Cosmopolitan, buuuut.... There must be a way to squeeze those additional 4 Arcana ranks from somewhere without losing the good stuff! Your thoughts? |
| Phoenix0012-04-06, 08:14 PM | Precocious Apprentice self disqualifies as soon as you get 2nd lvl Divine Spells. |
| DaveTheMagicWeasel12-04-06, 08:37 PM | Why not just buy Knowledge (arcana) cross-class? Since you've taken one level of Wizard, your max-ranks are always set at character level+3, and since you'll want a decent Int for your Wizard casting, as well as 4+Int SP for druid and the human bonus point you should have no trouble getting the required ranks. Failing that, there's always Able Learner of Education if you can fit them in. |
| Adolph_Kheebler12-04-06, 08:43 PM | your max-ranks are always set at character level+3 Only for class skills. For cross class skills it is (character level+3)/2. You can take the learn skill feat out of unearthed arcana. It makes one skill a class skill for every class you take. |
| NTD12-04-06, 08:52 PM | Erm, no. Once you've taken a class that has a skill as a class skill, your maximum is forever at character level +3. However, if you are leveling in a class without that skill as a class skill, you would pay the cross class rate, but your maximum ranks would still be character level +3. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/skillsSummary.htm |
| Caelic12-04-06, 08:58 PM | Only for class skills. For cross class skills it is (character level+3)/2. ...but once it's a class skill for any class you have, Adolph...even for a level...the maximum becomes and remains (level+3). Which is what we're looking at here. |
| zarzak12-04-06, 08:59 PM | Only for class skills. For cross class skills it is (character level+3)/2. You can take the learn skill feat out of unearthed arcana. It makes one skill a class skill for every class you take. But it is a wizard class skill, so you always keep the character level + 3 max ranks in it, even if it later is no longer a class skill (just means you have to spend 2 skill points to get a rank in it, instead of 1). |
| NTD12-04-06, 09:58 PM | Wow, corrected by 3 people in less than 10 minutes. |
| Daeger12-04-06, 10:39 PM | Precocious Apprentice self disqualifies as soon as you get 2nd lvl Divine Spells. No it doesn't. I don't know why so many people think that. If people would just bother reading the whole feat.. Well, to avoid posting my long, drawn out argument again 'for' this feat, I'll just give you a link. http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=10806340&postcount=148 |
| Endarire12-05-06, 02:58 AM | Human Wiz1/Druid3/Mystic Theurge4/Arcane Hierophant10/MT+2. You need Sanctum Spell or Earth Sense/Heighten Spell/Earth Spells as well as a level 2 wizard spell scribed into your spellbook. -EE |
| Caedrus12-05-06, 04:08 AM | As always: 1. There is Southern Magician, which does allow you to qualify early. 2. Wildrunner allows you to use cleric instead of druid, but requires feat expenditure, and to be an elf or half-elf. Caedrus. |
| castlemike12-05-06, 05:38 AM | Educated feat gives you all knowledge skills as class skills. |
| ed20912-06-06, 11:23 PM | There must be a way to squeeze those additional 4 Arcana ranks from somewhere without losing the good stuff! Your thoughts? ... Yeah, drop wizard & go bard instead. Grab the Alternative Source Spell feat after your 1st bard level instead of Precocious Apprentice, allowing druid to qualify for the arcane spell level prereq of Arcane Hierophant & Sublime Chord. A human with a 12 INT should be able to pull off something like: Druid 4/Bard 1/Druid +4/Arcane Heirophant 1/Sublime Chord 1/Arcane Heirophant +9 ... Spend all 8 skill points gained with the level of bard on Knowledge[Arcana]. Wildshape as an 18th level druid, 9th level arcane & divine spells... (but a crappy Sublime Chord caster level of 11, which would have been the same as what you had planned for wizard in your original build) |
