I'm currently playing a dwarven character in a Forgotten Realms campaign that is a

1 DwFtr(racial sub)/4 Wizard/2 Runesmith (races of stone)

Runesmith enables the caster to forgo the Somatic component of his memorized spells by instead using an extra Material component (Runes) -- this basically lets me ignore arcane spell failure for my memorized spells.

This is fantastic as I have access to every sort of sorc/wiz spell I can get my hands on and add to my spellbooks.

The problem, however lies in the fact that I'm the party's lone arcane caster and am relied upon for every sort of utility spell as well as firepower. That being said, I have to utilize alot of Wands and Scrolls.

The Runemsith ability to ignore Arcane Spell Failure unfortunately, I don't think extends to spell completion items.

That being said I'm wearing Full Plate (35% ASF) and usually using a Heavy Wood Shield (15% ASF) for a fat total of 50% ASF. Not too healthy considering how often I need to use Scrolls and Wands.

What I'm looking for is ways to lower my ASF without losing "+1 of existing spellcasting class" classes or prestige classes.

What I've come up with:

Mithral Hvy Shield (5% ASF)
Mithral Full Plate (25% ASF)
1 level of Spellsword (CW, Ignore Arcane Spell Failure 10%)

Lowering my total ASF to 20%.

Are there any other ways of lowering my ASF that I'm not seeing? Any armor enhancements, feats, or other prestige classes?

Thanks,

Twilight (Book of Exalted Deeds and PHB2) will reduce the armor and shield by 10 each, taking you down to 0% ASF

Githcraft reduces ASF by 5% and is relatively cheap. Might be hard to access, though!

Thistledown underpadding(?) reduces ASF on armor but increases armor check penalty. I think it's also pretty cheap.

What books are those two options in?

Haven't seen them before.

Thanks

Thistledown was in Races of the Wild, and I think was also printed in Arms and Equipment Guide. I've never heard of the other one, though.

Twilight was originally BoED, but was reprinted in PHB2 in a sidebar somewhere within the Duskblade description.

It is also printed in Eberron's Explorer's Handbook.

You don't have to worry about ASF when using Wands (and other Spell Trigger items). So Scrolls is your only problem. I'd just try to avoid using scrolls.

Githcraft is in either Manual of the Planes or the Planar Handbook, can't remember which.

Found it, as a template in DMG 2.

Also found Feycraft in there that also reduces ASF by 5%.

Check my sig, I believe there is a list of spells in there that will allow you to ignore ASF. If its not there, it should be on the first or second page of the Optimization Challenge board.

It's interesting to gather a spell list entirely from that; you can actually make a workable character.
