Arcane Spell Slinging Bard? [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-19-05, 07:20 PM Are there any good 20 level builds that provide good bard songs per day and 9th level arcane or divine spell casting?

Edit: A big plus would be if he was good with a spiked chain i.e. tripping.

16th level Bardic Music, 17th level Bardic Knowledge, 9th level Arcane spells/5th level Divine, +16 BAB. 8 less skill points than a Bard 20 build.

04-19-05, 11:15 PM Can't be done - Master Thrower needs a +5 BAB - if you lose a level of Bard, you lose the ability to qualify for it and in doing so, the +16 BAB.

Any idea on how to include a level of mindbender in there?

04-20-05, 12:27 PM Here is a very simple build that meets your criteria of strong Bard Music and 9th level spells. It gives more spells per day and better Bardic/Virtuoso Music than many of the other builds I have seen.

Bard 9/ Sublime Cord 1/ Virtuoso 10. Feats should include Extra Music and Lyric Spell. This is a very powerful build because the 10 levels of Virtuoso adds 9 caster levels to the Sublime Cord which allows for 9th level spells and the possibility of casting additional 9th level spells through the Extra Music and Lyric Spell feats, not to mention access to many more songs than the Sublime Cord gives. Caster Level is 19 (20 if you wanna spend a feat on Practiced Spellcaster for the extra CL).

Melee wise it is weak even for a Bard with a BAB of +11 and 20d6 HD at level 20. Adding up the number of Bardic Musics available per day gets a little complicated. If you round up the Sublime Cord level, you have a total of 20 Bardic Musics plus 4 for each Extra Music, plus 10 Virtuoso performances. If you wanted to take this to an extreme and take the Extra Music feat 6 times, you could cast six 9th level spells a day, without items. That's equal to a Sorcerer and more than a Wizard.
