| Cuchulainshound09-06-06, 04:28 AM | I'm in a game where the characters get several permanant class skills, and skills are important in this campaign. What I need is suggestions for an Arcane PrC that doesn't suck and has "high" skill points- 6+ would be great, but I'll settle for 4 if it really doesn't suck. Full Caster Level advancement is not a hard requisite (yes, skills are that important), but, natch, that would bring the PrC closer to sucking. (Thought there was a recent list of such around, but I didn't find it when I looked.) Thnx. |
| gorfnad the shiznit09-06-06, 04:55 AM | Arcane Trickster has 4 + Int skill points per level and full casting Daggerspell Mage I think has 4 + Int skill points per level and 9/10 casting Magelord I think has 4 + Int skill points and full casting Loremaster has 4 + Int skill points and full casting Other than these I'm not fully sure where to find a mage prestige class with full casting and mroe than 4 + Int skill points/level |
| sornet09-06-06, 05:06 AM | Harper Mage, Magic of Faerūn pg.28 |
| saru09-06-06, 05:50 AM | master of yuirwood (unapprocheable east) has 4 + Int skill points per level and full casting. ruathar (races of the wild) has 4 + Int skill points per level and full casting. |
| jstorrie09-06-06, 06:18 AM | Divine Oracles get 4 and have good class features. Geomancer gives 4 but only fits well in very specialized builds. |
| NoldorForce09-06-06, 08:13 AM | Ardent Dilettante (Planar Handbook) gets 6+Int modifier, but that's deceptive...considering that the class has certain skill requirements that increase as the class progresses. It gets "9/11" spellcasting--9/11 referring to the fact that an eventual class requirement is CL 1 in divine spellcasting in addition to its first level (which grants no spellcasting). |
| Daeger09-06-06, 08:34 AM | Ardent Dilettante is awesome, pure and simple. If you only go 6 or 5 levels in, you can pretty much get away with 5/6 progression instead of 9/11. It gives you EVERY skill as a class skill, and combined with Able Learner, that's just plain awesome. Just go Loremaster afterward. |
| Hesparex09-06-06, 10:50 AM | The virtuoso (although you will lose 2 caster levels) |
| Varnart09-06-06, 11:29 AM | Daggerspell Mage has 6+int skills. That's why I don't like the arcane trickster. I prefer spells and skills than spells and sneak attack. |
| FriendlyFrog09-07-06, 05:23 AM | No one mentioned Keeper of te Cerulean sign from Lords of Madness? Full casting progression, can be qualified without losing caster levels, 6 + Int skill points per level and a very good skill list. |
| gorfnad the shiznit09-07-06, 07:34 AM | Chameleon might be an interesting option for you as well. If I remember right it gets 8 + Int skills points per level, all skills class skills (or something insane like that) and the ability to cast 6th level divine spells and 6th level arcane spells. |
| Hesparex09-07-06, 08:46 AM | One of the reasons I like virtuoso is access to bardic song metamagic. The problem of course is the loss of 2 spellcasting levels. d6 vs d4 hitpoints doesnt hurt either. Also makes for a flavorful wizard that can bust out the lute when the spells have run out (or seem to be overkill). Or if you ever wanted to be the wizard of rock |
| FriendlyFrog09-07-06, 10:45 AM | Chameleon might be an interesting option for you as well. If I remember right it gets 8 + Int skills points per level, all skills class skills (or something insane like that) and the ability to cast 6th level divine spells and 6th level arcane spells. It's only 4 + Int from a really short list of skills, Chameleon is otherwise very abusable with the right builds, but it's not the best class if skills is the only thing you're after. |
| Seeker of Truth09-07-06, 01:51 PM | You might want to consider an Illumain beguiler/loredelver ... both get 6+int skills per level. |
| Book09-07-06, 02:28 PM | The gold standard for Skill Wizard PrCs is the Keeper of the Cerulean Sign (LoM). Full CL + 6 Skill Ranks/Level (and the skill selections are awesome - it uses the Rogue's skill list). The class benefits are a bit too niche-oriented, but that's the only drawback. Harper Mage, Loremaster, and Primal Scholar are all excellent "skill" PrCs that have super-easy entry requirements and full CL. All are at 4 skills/level with excellent skill lists. |
| UMiskatonic09-07-06, 06:14 PM | Um, isn't a bard an arcane class with high skill points? Good skill list too. If you're worried about the bard class being weak, you're sadly mistaken. The truth is that most of the people who play bards are terrible at it. Bard requires more finesse than saying "I rage and charge" at the biginning of every encounter. With all the splat books, you can also get silly powerful. Sublime Chord is great for caster power, and it's easy to go paladin or sacred exorcist or whatever you like. |
| Endarire09-07-06, 11:49 PM | In my Complete Divine, divine oracles have only 2 base skill points. -EE |
