| Alleria02-16-05, 11:34 PM | Hello Denizens of the Board, I, as you can guess, have a request for your amazing minds. First off I am in need of ideas or tips on optimization and/or tactics. This will be my first arcane spellcaster. Recomendations on Spells would be great. Now here is where the rest of the request comes in - The world has -many- undead in it. It is also Core/Completes/Races only (Also no MH, if that is considered Core.), though once in a while the DM allows other sources if he feels like it. My stats are as follows: Str: 12 (-2 Race) Dex: 21 (+2 Race, +2 Item) Con: 16 Int: 21 (+2 Level, +2 Item) Wis: 13 Cha: 15 Saves: Fort: 6/ Ref: 13/ Will: 10 AC: 25 (+5 Armour,+2 shield, +5 Dex, +1 Size, +2 Natural) HP: 55 I am a 10th level Strongheart Halfling. Rogue 3/ Wizard 5/ Arcane Trickster 2 Feats: Otherworldly (Required) Practiced Spellcaster Imp. Initiative Wep. Finesse Sacred Strike (Required) Bonus Feats: Wizard: Silent Spell Familiar: Alertness Items of magical nature are only allowed from the DMG. Items: Headband of Int +2, Gloves of Dex +2, Amulet of Nat Armour +2, Boots of Spiderclimb, Hat of Disguise, Hewards Handy Haversack, Everglowing Rock, Wand of CLWs, Wand of Grave Strike, Wand of Reduce Person, Wand of Detect Magic, Scroll of Darkness, Web, Fireball. Armour/Shield: +1 Mithril Shirt(Twilight, Shadow, Silent, Muffling) Darkwood Buckler There is also a ton of Misc. items like potions and mundane equipment, but I'm sure nobody wants a full listing. The Party already consists of: 1. Barbarian (Tank) 2. Wizard (Arcane) 3. Druid (Tank/Divine) 4. Ranger (Ranged Combat) 5. Cleric of Pelor (Divine/Undead Slayer) 6. Monk(...Melee? :thinks: ) 7. Half-Vampire Warlock (Who could use some extra advice! :schemes: Hint hint nudge nudge :smirk: ) Now, most bases are covered but I was thinking that perhaps an Arcane Trickster would come in handy since then I would have arcane spells backing her up. Also, there is the fact that my party doesn't really allow me to use my full potential as a rogue.( I.E. No scouting, No Trapfinding, No Disarming the traps...Bah.) There is also no Sun in this world as the sky has been blotted out by some crazy uber-magic. :twitch: Also, most of the enemies that are not legions of undead happen to be clerics paired with paladins with Giant Zombies as slaves...It's not really a friendly world. Demons also pop up periodically, just to brighten our 'day'. In fact a nice old lich happened by us just the other night, How sweet of the guy to bring his 'Large'*coughcoughPaininthe :censored: coughcough* Wraith buddy along for the show. Oh, and his faithful pet Zombie Ogres... :tantrum:  :banghead: At any rate, how could I make this character better within this group? I could really use some help with the spells, since I am new to any spellcaster that is not a cleric. The Warlock is also lagging behind the rest of the party in sheer power, so he could also use a few nudges in the right direction. Thank you all in advance for any input. :help: -Alleria  |
| Blade271802-16-05, 11:51 PM | Be aware that the feat Otherworldly only applies to certain racial regions, of which Strongheart Halfling is not one of. Also, your party already seems to have the arcane side of things well handled by a full-time Wizard. You would best serve to supplement him by staying as a skill-monkey with a maxed out Use Magic Device. When pumped properly, you can use all the utility spells that the Wizard won't be able to keep memorized from scrolls that either he or yourself could read. The same applies to staves, wands, and rods. |
| catharz02-17-05, 12:02 AM | UMD is your friend. When you say only items listed in the DMG does that mean that you coulden't have a wand of, say, Wraithstrike? |
| Alleria02-17-05, 12:14 AM | I know of the limitations of the Otherworldly feat, but my DM thought I should have it since I have had a direct connection to my Goddess. In fact it was by her power that my character yet lives. He believed it was fitting, so who am I to argue against good fortune. :D - Alleria Edit - I believe he was speaking more along the lines of Wondrous Items, but it would be worth looking into. I will also ask about Golem Strike(I think that is the name... :plotting: |
| Lorimo the Disbeliever02-17-05, 12:16 AM | >>>Otherworldly only applies to certain racial regions, of which Strongheart Halfling is not one of. They play in homebrewed world, not FR. >>>Wep. Finesse To what this one for? You listed zero melee weapons at all. Besides, stay out of close combat for all cost. Leave it to tough guys. |
| Alleria02-17-05, 12:23 AM | You are correct, I did forget to mention any weapons. If I am forced into melee I have a Shortsword(MW). If I am unable to use spells at a distance I will resort to a +2 Shortbow. Also, our group does not limit Weapon Finesse to one single weapon. It has been houseruled that if you are a finesse fighter, you are able to use finesse on any finesseable weapon. I hope that answers any questions for now. Edit- Now that I think about it, I do not truly need Weapon Finesse. Would It be better to switch this feat out for a better feat? |

Edit- Now that I think about it, I do not truly need Weapon Finesse. Would It be better to switch this feat out for a better feat?Unless you're using 3.0 rules, that's not a houserule. They changed the feat to include all finessable weapons in 3.5. But yes, I'd lose it. You have plenty of meatshields it sounds like, and I agree you should try to stay out of melee if you can. If you have to melee, pick up Polymorph when you can and use that. Edit: As far as spells, check out the Alter Self and Polymorph threads, and Snow's Weak and Weird Spells thread. You can find links to them all in the Optimization Library I think. The Wizard's Handbook might also be a good place to look. And there was a thread in the Spells and Magic forum called "A wizard's hidden power" by Thermansh (I think) that was pretty good, but I couldn't find it the other day. |
| catharz02-17-05, 12:34 AM | Also, our group does not limit Weapon Finesse to one single weapon. It has been houseruled that if you are a finesse fighter, you are able to use finesse on any finesseable weapon. Those are the official rules... Chain spell might be a fun one. |
| Blade271802-17-05, 12:39 AM | >>>Otherworldly only applies to certain racial regions, of which Strongheart Halfling is not one of. They play in homebrewed world, not FR.If you can find any instance of the original poster mentioning a homebrew world in his first post, I'd like to see it. Other tweaks we could make would revolve around the combat MOs of your companions (tactical warriors + battlefield control mages = instagib). |
| Alleria02-17-05, 12:40 AM | Then are there any recomendations as to a useful feat in exchange for Weapon Finesse? Besides the Feat, any idea's for spells? Thank you Phaedrus, I wasn't sure about that and I was being too lazy to go look within the book. |
| Alleria02-17-05, 01:09 AM | I am sorry about that Blade, I did forget to mention that. This is a world created solely from my DMs insane mind. :D Afterall besides ravenloft what normal worlds sky would rain blood, have harmless shades of the slain innocents follow you around begging for mercy, and have small flowers that constantly scream until you step on them in which case they explode in a small shower of blood...Hmm...Now that I think of it he is a bit morbid and deranged...Not to mention he killed my characters dog. Grrr... That is also a reason for wanting the outsider feat. :D Gotta love that Kelvezu form  . Two more levels! :w00t: :dancin: :angelhide |
| Alleria02-17-05, 12:58 PM | No more ideas? :allalone: |
