| carnivore09-03-04, 07:10 PM | After skimming thru the UA book I came across the Generic Classes, my first thought was ..hmmmmm ……then I started thinking about them and said “Hey …..they actually are great” . unfortunately, I only skimmed the book ,and after a couple of posts where I was informed of my errors I went back and reread the section. Now I Know they are GREAT!!!!!!!!! Example: Arcane trixters have a bad rep for sucking until they get higher levels…..BUT it doesn’t have to be that Way. human Generic Caster 1 feat / feat/ feat Generic Caster 2 Generic Caster 3 feat Generic Caster 4 Generic Caster 5 feat Generic Caster 6 feat(pick---sneak attack: gives 2d6 SA) Arcane Trickster 1 Arcane Trickster 2 Arcane Trickster 3 feat Arcane Trickster 4 Arcane Trickster 5 Arcane Trickster 6 feat Arcane Trickster 7 Arcane Trickster 8 Arcane Trickster 9 feat Arcane Trickster 10 PrC PrC PrC PrC The skills you get are: Decipher script Disable device Escape artist Spellcraft Knowledge(all) Craft Profession Pick INT as his main casting stat Cast spells as arcane Make fortitude the strong save and reflex, and will the weak saves You may choose spells from sorcerer/wizard lists, cleric lists, or druid lists You learn spells with a similar progression to sorcerors and cast them spontaneously Like a sorcerer (except 1 less 9th lvl slot). This gives great skills , excellent spells , spontaneous casting, arcane and divine spells, And even extra feats. All in all I would say this kicks the snot out of the sorcerer and the wizard as classes, It focuses on only one attribute and is very flexible to allow most types of builds. Before anyone brings it up,…………YES the generic caster can choose the feat “sneak attack” All the generic classes can choose any of the feats for generic classes . So if you wanted to you could even choose evasion , uncanny dodge , and turn undead, And still be an arcane caster. Well……..what do you think? |
| Snicker-Snack09-03-04, 07:18 PM | It is well known that the generic spellcaster class is the best way to qualify to the AT :). Pity that they can't be combined with normal classes :(. |
| rilem09-03-04, 07:44 PM | there's been a bunch of AT threads lately, after a long drought. Search them and find some other insight to the generic-caster solution. |
| carnivore09-03-04, 09:13 PM | im sorry i never saw much on generic casters here actually . the real idea is that they outperform both the sorceror and the wizard for the arcane spell casting position.....and considering the other abilities you could get you could even challenge the cleric(the classes are still in favor of the cleric IMO) and are definately better than favored soul. |
| helicopter09-03-04, 11:43 PM | outperform? i don't think so. the wizard trickster is a utility bag of tricks. the trickster, moreso than the standard wizard or sorcerorr needs to be able to do a lot of utility functions as both a rogue and a wizard. hence, you need a whole bunch of spells. the wizard with his spellbook, can easily do this. the sorceror-like spellcasting of the generic spellcaster can't. even with the expanded selection of druid and cleric spells, he still sucks in the spell selection category. unless mage of the arcane order is in the build. besides, snow made a generic spellcaster/trickster build a long time ago. once the search function is back up, go check it out |
