| Kaerts09-07-06, 08:05 PM | I am playing a Lesser Tiefling (No LA) character with the following scores: 10 STR, 20 DEX, 17 CON, 20 INT, 10 WIS, 10 CHA. (I rolled well) I am wondering what the best level progression would be as well as Feats. So far I can't find anything better than: 1 Rogue(1) Feat:Spellcasting Prodigy 2 Wizard(1) 3 Wizard(2) Feat: Point Blank Shot 4 Wizard(3) 5 Wizard(4) 6 Wizard(5) Feat: Practiced Spellcaster, Bonus: Empower Spell 7 Rogue(2) 8 Rogue(3) 9 Arcane Trickster(1) Feat: Precise Shot 10 Arcane Trickster(2) 11 Arcane Trickster(3) 12 Arcane Trickster(4) Feat: ? 13 Arcane Trickster(5) 14 Arcane Trickster(6) 15 Arcane Trickster (7) Feat: ? 16 Arcane Trickster(8) 17 Arcane Trickster(9) 18 Arcane Trickster(10) Feat: ? 19 ? 20 ? I'd like to be good at Ray spells and doing Sneak Attack damage with them for some extra oomph, as well as have some nice skills. Maybe I should look at using some wands too? I was thinking of opting out of a familiar to get the port ability for a conjuration specialist in the PHBII to help get in a good position to sneak attack. Also, I have about 6000 gold to spend on items, which I was thinking of putting towards a Headband of Intellect and Pearl of Power(1st). Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!! |

| Kaerts09-07-06, 08:54 PM | Ray Mage? Really? Where if I may ask? :> |
| Brol_The_Mighty09-07-06, 09:24 PM | Don't really remember...lemme look around a bit.... |
| Kaerts09-07-06, 11:46 PM | I do appreciate it. Otherwise, any thoughts? Even a link to another thread that treads on this would be cool. Thanks! |
| Endarire09-08-06, 04:32 AM | You could do Rogue1/Wizard5/Daggerspell Mage3/Arcane TricksterX/Daggerspell MageX. -EE |
| FriendlyFrog09-08-06, 04:41 AM | Here's (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=95288) a good thread for Arcane trickster players. Unlike most things here that focus on character builds, this one is more about what it's like to play an Arcane trickster, how to cover their weaknesses and how to play by their strengths. It's pretty old, but most of the information is still just as sound. What books do you have available? A couple of books can make playing an AT easier, but they do also change how one plays. |
| Kaerts09-08-06, 02:40 PM | Every official Wizards book and Dragon Magazine is allowed, so I have a lot to work with. |
| FriendlyFrog09-08-06, 03:07 PM | Now, are the generic classes from Unearthed arcana allowed? If they are, a Spellcaster 10/Arcane trickster 10 will end up with caster level 20 and 10d6 sneak attack. Generic classes are rarely allowed, though, so ask your DM. I think that would be the most optimal and best way to optimize an Arcane trickster. Then there's always the Daggerspell mage, but it has some really big downsides, especially the feat requirements which don't help with rays at all, and the skill list. The most common builds are Rogue 1/Wizard 5/Daggerspell mage 4/Arcane trickster 10 and Rogue 1/Wizard 5/Daggerspell mage 10/Arcane trickster 4. |
