Hola,

I was looking over some of my books last night, and a thought occured to me. The Southern Magician feat in Races of Faerun allows you to cast an arcane spell as a divine spell and vice versa several times a day.

It occured to me that this could be used to qualify for PrC's that advance a class lvl, but require the character to be able to cast arcane or divine spells. A perfect example of this would be Walker in the Waste. It has a requirement of being able to cast 3 spells from the thirst or Sand domain as divine spells, but advances any spellcasting class.

Is there any reason why Southern Magician wouldn't let an arcane caster qualify?

because even if you use the spells you don't have the spells from the domain.

what you can probably do is take arcane disciple AND southern magician to qualify.

I don't think you have to have it as a granted domain spell, because they have Druids qualifying for it. I think it just has to be a spell on the list.

Thematically, a Sha'ir would fit perfectly (desert type character + ability to cast arcane AND divine spells) Let me get this together...

Human

Feats:

1st Heat Endurance
1st Arcane Disciple: Sand Domain
3rd Alternative Source Spell

This lets you get into Walker in the Waste at lvl 3, and nets you the dry lich template at lvl 13 :D

Oh and Sha'ir is a charisma based caster so get crazy with unholy toughness (cha as bonus hp)

I think a dread necromancer would work better for it.

You'd have to take Arcane disciple to qualify, though. But the Dry lich is amazing when compared to the normal one.

There's no comparison to Dry Lich. Five phylactories?! Unholy Toughness? A nice, big, bonus to Wis?
