It's already been discussed so i'm not going to ask you about the build itself (by the way it's the usual 3 Ranger 2 Fighter 2 Sniper 2 OotbI 2 Peerless........).

I'd like instead some help about what to buy him. We are starting around 10th lvl in 3.5 rules, but we can use older manuals too if we don't try stupid things.

This is what i came after some thoughts:

- Mithral Shirt +1 Light Fortified (we are using an alternate critical hit method, so this could save my life many times...)
- Mighty Bow +1 Screaming and Corrosive (in order to deal more dmg even to undead and monster with dmg reduction) made of that wood that confers ghost touch ability (found in BoeD)
- Quiver of Elhonna (just a staple for any archer guy)
- Cloack of resistance (another staple item)
- Boots of speed (a bit boring, but the 1 free attack is always nice)

Anyone has something better?

Another concern is: i'm going to have some +xD6 like a rogue thanks to the Prcs, but going only the archer way, i have some doubt about how to use this feature most of the time. That means: how can i make my enemy loose the AC bonus in order to be able to sneak him? Only reliable method i found is to take the Leadership feat, which at 10th lvl could net me a 8th lvl sorcerer to make me Greater Invisible all the time (and do other nasty things of course...). Other suggestions?

Thank you everybody

Just as a side note.....Are you using the original OotBI, or the new one found in 'The complete Warrior', or whatever it's called? The new one doesn't get d6 sneak attacks, and the old one requires either fighter 4 or Templar 1 to qualify.

You could get a ring of blinking. Sure, you'd always have a 20% miss chance, but foes would suffer the same thing against you, and they'd always be denied thier Dex bonus (ie- sneak attacks). Not the most optimal, but it is always-on sneak attack.

Another way would be to buy a wand of greater invis, and just have the rogue or mage cast it on you when you need it.

Also remember that with the ranger levels you can now use wands of ranger spells. Deffinately try to get some wands of the useful spells (Hunter's Mercy, CLW, Forest Fold, Entangle). You could also just use wands of forest fold, and always re-hide using the sniping rules to gain sneak attack.

I don't remember off-hand how much they cost, but if I were an archer not going all the way to peerless archer 8, I'd get either boots of flying or the smallest flying carpet (it has something around a 180 ft fly speed.)

Maybe some bracers of archery (although I did hear they got nerfed in 3.5)

As always i don't do my homeworks properly .... You are right i must be Ranger 1 Fighter 4. And yes, i'm using the old version of the Prc, since that manual is far from viewing the shelves here in Italy.

About the boots and wands: if i have to rely on that kind of items, i prefer to "waste" a feat and have an infinite source of magic always near me, that would also be a huge benefit for the entire party since in 3.5 cohorts don't eat up party XP but only a little share of treasure. Maybe the ring could possibly be a near-answer to my problem.

The bracers, on the other hand, are horrible in 3.5 they cost way too much for what they grant.

I'll have a look at the hunter mercy and the other spells.

Thank you

I hate to bumb and usually never do it, but i really need some advices about the equipment. That's my first archer character so my experience is very limited on the matter.

What does the Quiver of Elhonna do? and from which book is it?

I'm also making an archer and could use something to store lots of arrows (starting at level 20 so I should waste quite a few).

The Quiver of Elhonna is found in the DMG. IIRC, it has three compartments, one hold 60 arrows, one can hold 6 or so javalins, and the last can hold 6 long objects (bows, q-staves, spears, etc). You could probably talk you DM into letting you just use it for 120 or 180 arrows though.

I see, I already knew it then but it's called Efficient Quiver in the SRD :/

Thanks for the clarification.
