Divine Metamagic works on divine spells. Rangers cast divine spells. Hunter's Mercy helps you crit people you shoot at with a bow. Hunter's Mercy is a ranger spell. So a ranger that could crit someone using quickened Hunter's Mercy would possibly do a fair amount of damage. Then I thought about Occult Slayer's Vicious Strike, which lets you deal double damage when you ready an action to disrupt a spellcaster. So you ready an action to disrupt spellcasting, and before you shoot the caster, cast (using Divine Metamagic: Quicken) a quickened Hunter's Mercy. You fire, crit (a x5 crit in this case), and additionally deal double damage. Not sure if this would be dmgx2 or just a x6 crit in this case. But regardless, this seems like it could be fun. Additionally, you're not a one-trick pony, having the ability to heal using wands, cast some low-level cleric buffs, and of course, track and survival like a normal ranger. You can attack all day long with the bow normally, you just happen to shine when harrassing a spellcaster. BAB is 13, base saves are 9/10/8 (All at 14th). |
| Pinky's brain05-16-06, 02:18 PM | Hunter's mercy works during the next round, not the current round ... and at that level you can simple use a lesser metamagic rod of quickening to quicken hunter's mercy. No divine metamagic required. I think it's a nice trick, but ideally you would have to find a way to combine it with synchronicity so it doesn't cost you your turn :) |
