Sure you can shoot well over a mile, but I can't seem to find any way to get reasonable damage at that distance. Neither ranged sneak attack nor precise shot, nor skirmish are particularly helpful because the furthest distance any will function that I can find is 60 ft (by virtue of OotBI). So, can anyone help me find a way to deal reasonable damage at that distance (preferably without resorting to ten prestige classes, feats from seven different settings, or questionable game mechanics i.e. drowning yourself to increase your hitpoints). |

| PhoenixInferno06-29-06, 02:52 AM | Also, if you're a Ranger, the Hunting enhancement (Masters of the Wild) doubles your Favored Enemy bonus damage. |
| Reis06-29-06, 05:16 AM | wounding is also not a bad option at that range because you can often do significant bleeding damage to your opponent before they are able to get near you |
| Khazra Reborn06-29-06, 08:13 AM | marrow crushing enhancement does 1 con damage without a save, thats just nasty. Theres a spell in magic of faereun called hunters mercy. It ment you auto hit and threatend criticals on favoured enemies. People used to make their bows have it permeantly on them. Combined with a build that was something like: ranger4/fighter1/stalker of kharash3/ranger5/deepwoodsniper3/foehunter7 Make the blow blessed & hunting aswell. Take improved FE evil feat. Then you basicly boost your strength as high as possible for a composite bow(34 for a human). Shoot your bow, damage= [1D8+12(str)+18(FE bonus)]*4(crit)*5(attacks)=490 damage. Deit> that was before the splitting enhancement came along, now you can basicly double it. |

Arcane archer? He'd be the most annoying bad guy ever to fight. elven wizard 5/fighter2/craigtop archer 4/eldritch knight 7/arcane archer 2(for the place spell thingy? or is it one) |
| Crust06-29-06, 12:22 PM | This has come up time and time again... Use poison. An arrow sailing hundreds of feet is going to lose power and momentum. Damage should be scant at great range. Use poison. |
| Khazra Reborn06-29-06, 01:54 PM | Its in BoVD. Theres another good 1 in there which does 1 negative level when it hits, 2 on a crit. I cant remember what its called now. |
| GWLlosa06-29-06, 02:27 PM | Use the spell 'sniper shot' which gives you unlimited 'sneakable' range. You should be able to consistently sneak with that sucker at distance, as I can't imagine you're easily 'spottable' (there's a distance penalty on spot, right) at that distance, so the hide check at -20 should be cake... |
