| ksbsnowowl10-21-03, 10:39 AM | what alternatives are there for me?.... Ask your DM if you can remake your character without the wizards levels? Really, the arcane archer is not that good of a PrC, and it's even worse in 3.5 than it was in 3.0 because the bonuses to the arrows don't stack with that of the bow any longer. Really, the only thing an AA is good for is allowing you to get more special features on your bow (ie- a +1 shocking burst, flaming burst, icy burst, thundering bow of distance, etc.) and still have a higher magical bonus to hit. Not worth losing awesome class features you could have had if you had taken a real archer PrC. Take a look at the Order of the Bow Initiate from Sword and Fist, the Deepwood Sniper from Masters of the Wild, and the Peerless Archer from Silver Marches (a Forgotten Realms accessory). Seriously, ask your DM if you can rework your character to be a Ranger 1/Figher 3. Shoot for something along the lines of Ranger 1/ Fighter 4/ OotBI 7/ Peer Arch 8 or Rgr 1/ Ftr 4/ OotBI 8/ DWS 7. These are much better archer characters than an arcane archer. If you want to see more, just use the 'search' button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and search for posts by 'ksbsnowowl', I've posted my preferred builds a few other times recently. |
| Kalanth10-21-03, 10:46 AM | Well, personally, I like the Arcane Archer PrC (3.0 and 3.5 versions). However, if you plan on gaining all ten levels of AA (which I suggest, but most only suggest the first three), then I would build the character as a 3/7 fighter/wizard. This gives you 4th level spells, you have the BAB that is needed, and obviously, the require feets. If AA starts to scare you after some of the comments you will hear, then maybe look into Order of the Bow, which is another good archer class. Seriously, ask your DM if you can rework your character to be a Ranger 1/Figher 3. This one, I dunno. Why not just do 4 levels in ranger instead? Or Ranger 2 / Fighter 2? This gives you the archer style, and the bonus feets of the second level fighter, and go from there. |

| Bo Degn10-21-03, 11:51 AM | Thanx for info... changing levels is out of the question.. i have come up with some alternatives i want to look in to... My character is an elf who has grown up in Elventree... He is now trying to become part of a network of elves being led by an elven prince ... He is neutral good and has a military background... can some1 tell me what a peerless archer is about? i dont have silvermarches.. think my gm might have it... I feel that im quite good with my bow already.. so it could also be a wizard PrC preferebly a bit combat orientated |

Wow, there were some good ideas there. I like the Pal/Sor build for that, especially since the Imbue arrow allows any spell to be placed in it. I personally would switch the Pal with Cleric, but still, very intreging. |
