| JulesCARV03-27-06, 10:39 PM | Thoughts on a sort of "do everything" build? I came up with it after asking about what sort of class you'd play if you were the only PC in a campaign. The idea here is a sort of jack of all trades -- fighting, casting spells, boosting skills, whatever. High intelligence Good strength and constitution Charisma and Dexterity shouldn't be too bad. Wisdom if you can spare it. Otherwise, dump. Archivist 6 / Exorcist of the Silver Flame 3 / Fist of Raziel 10/??? 1 Feats: Able Learner at first level Skill Knowledge (speak language) is a possibility, to make EVERY skill a class skill, not just "every skill except speak language." It's probably a waste with Tongues and such, though. Power Attack is needed, for Fist of Raziel. Servant of the Heavens is also needed. Get leadership with an Artificer cohort, for access to every divine spell in the game. As of now, it's 17 CL/16 BAB, but if there's a way of getting +1 BAB/ +1 CL on that last level, it could be 18 CL/17 BAB, which would be nice. With the high intelligence, even Fist of Raziel levels are likely to provide 6 skill points per level, and all skills are in class. The idea here is to have a character who's basically self-sufficient: better skills than a cleric, if not exactly rogue-level. Decent combat. Good spell selection. EDIT: Changed title from Archivist/Exorcist of the Silver Flame/Fist of Raziel build... to Archivist-based "divine gish." |
| Docrailgun03-27-06, 11:00 PM | I was under the impression that it had been established that the scrolls Artificers create are neither Divine nor Arcane, so they cannot be placed in either sort of spellbook (that is, not in the Archvist's prayer book, or whatever it's called). Get leadership with an Artificer cohort, for access to every divine spell in the game. As of now, it's 17 CL/16 BAB, but if there's a way of getting +1 BAB/ +1 CL on that last level, it could be 18 CL/17 BAB, which would be nice. | GaffeR03-27-06, 11:11 PM | Might try Archivist 6/Sacred Exoricst 4/Fist of Raziel 10 The nice thing about it are the turning attempts for DMM. 16 BAB, CL 19. Dunno about feats and stuff other than DMM (X). This is off the top of my head, so sorry if it doesn't all work. |
| JulesCARV03-27-06, 11:21 PM | Hmm... maybe the artificer cohort wouldn't work, then. I guess I didn't know about this ruling. I don't think Sacred Exorcist is a possibility until level 7. I think it requires 10 ranks of knowledge (religion). |
| JulesCARV03-28-06, 11:52 AM | Any other ideas on a sort of prestiged "warrior archivist gish"? Being able to use intelligence instead of wisdom for casting, and having access to all those yummy druid spells, does have a certain appeal :^). |
| JulesCARV03-30-06, 03:45 PM | Hmm.... a Church Inquisitor would be nice to cut out a few of those archivist levels. Any experience on how hard it is to find a bit of corruption in your church so that you can qualify? ;) Does creating an indulgences-type scheme and then uncovering your own corrupt practices count? |
| fnord03-30-06, 04:25 PM | Hmm... maybe the artificer cohort wouldn't work, then. I guess I didn't know about this ruling. It doesn't, but the Warlock item creation ability has no such clause. You'd just have to wait a little longer. |
| JulesCARV04-11-06, 01:18 PM | Warlocks can scribe divine scrolls? Interesting. Never realized that. Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone else has some more generalized ideas on how to build an archivist-based divine gish. |
| Warlock3304-11-06, 03:47 PM | Do you realize that archivists get bonus spells based off wisdom? How can you afford to dump wisdom? |
| Bloodlust_the_Bold04-11-06, 09:16 PM | Get a chameleon cohort to get your spells. He has access to most divine spell lists and you can even use scribe scroll as his floating feat ... you won't get the highest level spells , but you will have the adept list that has a lot of arcane-like goodies ... don't forget to buy nightsticks from libris mortis to power your DMM since you'll be taking leadership, try to see if you can get rogue followers to steal scrolls for you, they can enter divine orders for years to get trust then steal the scrolls for you ... |
| aelryinth04-11-06, 11:06 PM | Scribe Scroll requires a caster level first to take the feat, and Chameleon Aptitude Focus is not considered spellcasting for the purposes of qualifying eligibility for any feat or effect. Ergo, the Chameleon can transcribe feats he knows from outside the limits of the class, but having access to the Divine Spell lists doesn't let him transcribe spells from those lists using Scribe Scroll...only from any spellcasting he might have received before going into the class. ==Aelryinth |
| JulesCARV04-12-06, 01:34 AM | Do you realize that archivists get bonus spells based off wisdom? How can you afford to dump wisdom? I can't afford to have high everything. That's just not how D&D is written. Given the options, it seemed like wisdom was the least important. |
| Szass_Tam04-12-06, 11:39 PM | Which book is the Archivist in? |
| HalasterAteMyHamster04-12-06, 11:59 PM | I can't afford to have high everything. That's just not how D&D is written. Given the options, it seemed like wisdom was the least important. In this situation, you'd do far better with putting your Strength allotment into Wisdom. Chances are you'll be Divine Power'd up anyway. Strength is your least important stat when you have access to Cleric buffs. |
