Archivists--Be Sad No Longer! [Archive] - Wizards Community

Are you sick of being taunted for your fewer number of spells per day?
Are you sick of the jeering you hear for having crummy BAB and a small hit die?

Well, fear no longer! With just a few buffs, you too can be an unstoppable combat machine! Let’s take Bob as an example. Bob might not be the best combatant around, but, given enough time (and good use of the Extend Spell metamagic feat), he can best any cleric in combat!

Let’s see what Bob’s buffs are, shall we?

Girallon’s Blessing + Fuse Arms = +4 STR (unnamed)
Righteous Fury = +4 STR (sacred) + 5 hp/caster level
Righteous Might = +4 STR (size), +2 CON (size)
Divine Power = Full BAB, +1 hp/caster level
Bite of the Werebear = +16 STR (enhancement), +2 DEX (enhancement), +8 CON (enhancement)
Greater Visage of the Deity = +4 STR (unnamed), +4 CON (unnamed), +2 DEX (unnamed)

Yay. Bob has just gotten +32 STR, +14 CON, +6 hp/caster level [essentially +13 hp/level] and other bonuses I haven’t listed. Now, Bob the archivist has taken to ranged combat.

Point Blank Shot --> Rapidshot = +1 ranged attack.
Power Attack, Brutal Throw --> Power Throw [Say Bob archivist has 14 STR, enough to qualify for Power Attack on his own, and it’s an even number to boot.]

Then our beloved archivist Bob casts Swift Haste and Giant’s Wrath. Plus Divine Sacrifice.

Rock throwing power = 2d6 + 10 (insight) + 18 (strength) + bonus from Power Throw + 1 (Point Blank Shot) + 5d6 (Divine Sacrifice; one attack only).

This means that Bob can potentially do…

12d6 + 60 + 108 + 6 x bonus from Power Throw + 6 + 5d6 damage -->

17d6 + 174 + 6 x bonus from Power throw damage in a single round.

Shucks. Look at Bob blush! It might not be a world record, but it’s still pretty damn good.

05-16-06, 04:19 PM Man, I dunno about you but I never heard of archivists being explicitly, at least significantly weaker than clerics, given there are multiple ways to get turning/rebuking undead.

Anyway, good combo.

05-16-06, 04:26 PM All of those are dandy spells, but if you're not making use of Persistent, most of 'em aren't going to last very long.

Druid 6/Spell Compendium.

You have to have the ability to cast ninth level spells for Greater Visage of the Deity, though.

05-16-06, 07:30 PM Caelic's right in that those spells need to be persisted :D Multiclass into one of those divine prestige classes which grant you turning, get the appropriate Extend Spell and Persistent Spell and ta-da you're doing pretty good.
