Say a Sorceror decides to take a level as an archmage and decides to learn the "spell-like ability" high arcana to learn any spell he knows as a spell-like ability twice a day. Say he then decided to unlearn that spell and learn another one of the same level. I believe he gets the new spell while retaining the old spell as a spell like ability. Am I incorrect? If this is possible, then you could use the maximize, empower, and quicken spell like ability feats as you choose on whatever spell you took without increasing the casting time or the level... is this right?
aelryinth 01-21-07, 09:19 PM	No...he has a spell like ability. He can't even apply his metamagic feats to it...they don't affect spell like abilities. In effect, he has the spell, he can untrain it..but then he has a spell like ability he can only use twice a day, instead of optionally as many times as he has spell slots. ===Aelryinth
NoldorForce 01-21-07, 10:08 PM	As in the OP's question (applying the meta-SLA feats), such is legal if you still have the spell-like ability AND you are able to apply that feat to the SLA with the normal requirements for the meta-SLA feats (minimum CL based on SL).

Yes, you could apply these feats to the spell you made into a SLA. No, they don't increase the casting time or "level" of the SLA. If you're asking something else, please spell it out better.
BebopSV 01-22-07, 03:14 AM	cool that pretty much answered all my questions. Im just trying to come up with things that make my sorceror a little more interesting/ able to use metamagic on spells without increasing casting time. I know that there is a variant that allows for that in the PH2, but by the time I saw that Id just spent about 2 months worth of gaming to get my pseudodragon familiar (my dm couldnt just let me have it by taking the feat, I still had to earn it by protecting the egg in an incubator). Yeah Id rather have the cool metamagic stuff than a familiar, but it was too late to change, so since then Ive been trying to find nifty ways outside of metamagic rods to allow me fun metamagic coolness. Thanks for all the help.
