Are spells gained early counted as their original level? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-10-06, 04:02 AM I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I'm having trouble finding a thread on it.

The question is this: do spells gained early count as their original level? For instance, the gnome substitution level 1 outlined in the Races of Stone supplement allow access to minor image as a level 1 spell. For the purposes of qualifying for PrCs, among other things, is this a second level spell?

I would love for it to be the case, but I feel like it isn't. True, it's supposed to be a 2nd level spell, but for this particular gnome, it's not, so it doesn't count.

12-10-06, 04:27 AM Unfortunatly, it's a first level spell taht mimmics a second level effect, the save and spell slot are still of first level. so it's a first level spell. (to my understanding). Only a spell occupying a 2nd level slot is a 2nd level spell.

Only a spell occupying a 2nd level slot is a 2nd level spell.
You can prepare or spontaneously cast a 1st lvl spell in a 2nd lvl slot. It is still a 1st lvl spell though with the 1st lvl dc and all that. You need to use the Heighten Feat to give it the 2nd lvl dc.
